BMW Z4 (2003 - 2009) - 03 2.5 Engine failure advice please! 28 Jan 2010 (Forum)
Hi all, I need some advice about an engine failure in a Z4, the car is 7 years old, has done less than 20K and is used almost exclusively on short runs of less than 5 miles. It was last driven hard in October for just a few miles and has more or less pootled around gently since then. -
Ford Fiesta (2002 - 2008) - 07 1.6 broken shock absorber 18 May 2009 (Forum)
When they got it Ford reported back that the drivers side front shock absorber was "smashed". Not just worn or damaged, but completly broken. Car is under 3 years old, I have not hit any bumps at excessive speed. I don't know anything about shock absorbers or what might break them, does anyone have any idea what sort of things might have caused this damage? -
Mercedes Benz E-Class W124 (1985 - 2000) - 1994 E320 Coupe - Cruise Control problem 2 Apr 2008 (Forum)
It's not a big problem to be honest and I don't expect a 14 year old car, even a low mileage W124, to be perfect. I'm wondering if it's one of those "oh just clean electrical connector XYZ and it'll go away" problems, whether it's endemic to the car or whether it's a precursor to something more more serious/ expensive going wrong. -
Mazda - HJ article on Booming Mazda sales in Scotland 27 Oct 2007 (Forum)
Maybe because the Mazda outlets did so well this year was the reason the sales staff in 2 x Mazda outfits did not get a sale. Ignored in 1 outlet (he did not get out his chair when asked for the price of a car in the showroom) and not given the attention I thought was required at another when I asked about a test drive. Neither asked me how much I was planning to spend I was looking to spend £15K or a bit more however their views of me were coloured by my 7 yr old/90K mls Civic in their car park (immacualte for yr & mileage). -
Define underpowered 24 Apr 2007 (Forum)
Even the slowest vehicle - probably SWMBO's old 45bhp Polo would wind up to 90mph on the motorway and, given similar conditions, there would not be more than a couple of minutes in journey time between that car and my usual hot hatch(latest is 150bhp Golf Turbo) Sticking rigidly to speed limits I would wager that the difference in time for the Polo and a Ferrari would be minimal. -

i was taking a glance at the many threads on ebay here and i was just wondering if anybody fancied writing if they ever bought a gem or a pile of ........ I have purchased 2 cars of ebay, both for personnel use. First being a K reg bmw 316i. it was a great car and to be honest i wish i never sold it. i paid £1500 for it and sold it for £1700 6 months later.i never went to see it and bid "blind". i get to see it at least once a week as the guy who bought it lives round the corner, if he ever puts it up, i will probably buy it. -
Car price, national vs local 31 Dec 2006 (Forum)
I will be selling my car to my parents next month. Having looked in the local papers for the prices, I then tried the official online sites & found that they are considerably less than the local average here. My car is a Toyota Corolla 1.3i SE 16v, 1999 with 45,500 on the clock from new. -
Mystery smoke - 1992 rover 827 v6 8 Apr 2006 (Forum)
This looks pretty old and the converter is designed to output carbon dioxide and water, so is this just left over from the last time the car was run. Any suggestions? -
Audi A6 clutch/oil problems 14 Oct 2005 (Forum)
My 6 month old new shape A6 2.0 TDI, which has now done 20k miles, has been plagued by problems. The clutch has just been replaced because of a severe judder when cold but the new clutch is very "snappy" the pedal having to be pressed into the carpet to disengage and a very short travel between disengage and engage. It makes driving the car quite awkward. -
Driving a Foreign Car in Britain 27 Mar 2005 (Forum)
Hello everybody, A Happy Easter to everybody!! I live in Spain and drive a car with Spanish plates. I intend to visit England this summer for the first time with it. Several questions:- 1) Although the EC is planning on introducing a new regulation meaning governments have the responsibility to chase up fines occurred abroad by cars registered in their countries, at the moment I can stick two fingers up at any speed camera without problems????? -
Sale Advice - Accident Damage 14 Aug 2004 (Forum)
As the car was not written off, this accident will not show up on a HPI search. Being an honest soul, I do not intend to sell this car and deceive anybody, but I am concious that admitting to accident damage will put people off, no matter how good the repair. -
Skoda Yeti 140 ks 4x4 or Honda CR-V 2.0 150 ks? 24 Nov 2011 (Forum)
And another thing. If i get Honda, i have better deal for my old car (imy old car is honda), compared for what i get if i choose Yeti (in that case i'll try to sell my self my old car). Also Honda is on stock, so i can get it immediatly, while Yeti with specs that i want i have to order and to wait 3 months. -
deposit and breach of contract 2 Oct 2007 (Forum)
I saw a used car valued at £12,000 at an independent dealer and put a deposit of £500 down. A trade in on amy old car worth £5,000 was also agreed as part of the deal. The deposit was paid on the condition that work was done to the car. -
Daihatsu Charade (2003 - 2006) - 12000 mile report 3 Nov 2013 (Forum)
Now its run up to a shade under 37k and ive owned it 10 months - Im doing more miles in it than I thought and most likely far more than the average Charade owner judging by the 25k my car had on it at 4.5 years old. Am I still happy with it? On the whole yes. Given the miles I do in it and the use as a work vehicle to carry equipment, something Im sure its makers never intended. It copes extremely well and when I had a Fiesta loan car while mine was in the dealer, I realised just how much interior space they squeezed out of the tiny dimensions compared to the Fiesta which struggled to fit the same kit with the seats folded - infact it didnt and I had to put stuff both in the front footwell and on front seat, something that I dont have to in the Daijit. -
Mercedes E300 Cabriolet - Disc pads and disk brakes. 22 Apr 2021 (Forum)
I'm just back from my first B service and my car has covered just under 28000 miles . It's 2 1/2 years old. Dealership have told me I need to replace both the pads and disks on my front wheels, at a cost of around £500. I had expected to get a little more mileage before I needed new pads, never mind disks (I am not a racing driver :-) I drive mainly about town with a little motorway driving thrown in.) -
Peugeot 2008 1.2 130 EAT6 Allure Premium - The first thousand miles 3 Jan 2020 (Forum)
Brim to brim, it consumed 105.35 litres for 895 miles of mostly local short trips (we use my more comfortable car for longer journeys). That's 38.7 mpg, little better than our old Focus which was 37.6 when I last measured it over a similar distance (but with more motorway journeys). The oil level hasn't moved noticeably from the max mark. -
Any - Advice from HJ 30 May 2019 (Forum)
A planned drive will make for a sensible bit of acceleration sense so we will be off the accelerator some time before we need to brake.” I then mentioned the case you cited of the 92-year old and he replied: “In the material I wrote, the only time I advocated left foot braking was in slow manoeuvring in an automatic. If that is where he is limiting his suggestion to then I would agree. -
Need help in deciding a Crossover vehicle 15 Feb 2016 (Forum)
If I find a CX5 or Q3 which is 3 years old and done less than 50K miles and is below £15K, shall I go for it? or do I need to consider any other things before proceeding? Any suggestions/rants welcome, thanks in advance -
Bemused by Insurance Companies 17 Nov 2006 (Forum)
I have just received my insurance renewal quote from a leading insurance company and I was fully expecting to have an increase due to the fact I've been a bad lad and got two speeding fines earlier this year. Two months ago I spoke to them about it as I was changing cars from an 11yr old 318is Coupe to 06 Focus 1.8 TCDI Zetec, at the time they said the speeding offences wouldn't be taken into account until renewal and my premium went up by £16.00 PA at the time. Well the renewal quote went up by £400.00 which in effect double my premium from £425 to £825.00. -
ID3 initial impressions. 26 Sep 2025 (Forum)
The biggest negative by far is that intrusive and b***** dangerous lane assist nonsense that tries to fight you if you cross a line without indicating, it’s often picking up lines in the road such as old road workings etc rather than the painted lines. But looking online it can apparently be permanently turned off in settings - and it promptly shall be. Beyond that it is a Golf sized car on the outside, Passat sized on the inside.
