  • Mondeo TDCi ECU updates / warming up 23 Mar 2012 (Forum)
However the opposite is true, while it still performs well it now exhibits a typical diesel rattle at light throttle openings, particularly when cold, it uses more fuel to the tune of 3-4 mpg and takes a lot longer to warm up. I had come to the view that it was approx end 2002 to end 2003 models that were worst effected by the ECU issues, and that earlier and later cars were OK.
  • Advise on car purchase- Bravo or Panda? 1 Mar 2012 (Forum)
I think the bravo will be more comfortable for the 90 mile round trip she does everyday, but apparently the panda is a reasonable car at 70mph. Fuel economy for the panda is quoted at 76mpg at £30 a year tax. The bravo is meant to do 54mpg and £120 a year to tax. I am interested in your views about which one you think she could get.
  • Peugot Expert TD 1.9 - Peugot Expert TD 1.9 - Not starting well 22 Feb 2012 (Forum)
It has new glow plugs so i have ruled that out, it also drives fine when it has started, either by the starter motor or jump start. I have read about the fuel solenoid amongst other things, but would this be a possible cause if the van drives ok once started? A "mechanic" so say from the local area has fitted the three starter motors and now reckons it could be a compression issue - Does anyone have any thoughts on this?
  • 2003 Ford KA Duratec - Strange only-when-warm-low-rpm hesitation! 21 Dec 2011 (Forum)
Here is what I've changed so far: - Plugs - Leads - Coilpack - Front Lambda - Rear Lambda - Fuel filter - Cleaned all engine earths - Cleaned TPS - Cleaned throttle body   Help! Nothing seems to fix the problem. I've of course done oil / filter / coolant changes.
  • Peugeot 106 - New Head Gasket - won't start 17 Dec 2011 (Forum)
The engine barely turns over (about half a turn) and smoke starts coming out of the wiring loom where the wires split off to connect to the thottle body. The fuel pumps primes okay. But there is no attempt of ignition when fully turning the key to start it. Before I tried to start it up I checked that it turned by hand and all was fine - so it's not the problem.
  • Peugeot 307 sw 2.0 hdi 110 Hp 2002 - Anti pollution and limp mode 29 Jun 2011 (Forum)
Can anyone please help several months ago the unblock diesel filter warning came on followed by anti pollution fault resulting in the car going into 3000 rpm limp mode. I have checked that there is fuel additive still in its tank and also removed the particulate filter and checked it's condition which was quite clean I also have a reciept for this being changed 10000 miles ago. The strange thing is if I unplug the maf meter it still says anti pollution fault but no unblock diesel filter and also does not go into limp.

  • vauxhall combo 1.7 di diesel - van will not start when its warm 5 Mar 2011 (Forum)
I took it to a mechanic a few weeks ago( if he realy was) he had it for over two weeks(i know pi** taker) i was fuming he then phone me and said the problem was inside the engine and it will be cheaper to put a new engine in because he thinks its the rings. it does not smoke when its running at tickover and drive fine when its running and does not cut out. this is what he said he had done.(if he did) Took the injectors off - he said these where ok checked fuel pump pressure - he said was ok comppression test - was not that good on start and really low when its warm thanks in advance.
  • Ford Mondeo mk3 2ltr zeetec 51 pate - Speedo drops to zero and starts to missfire 13 Feb 2011 (Forum)
This firstly started when i changed a dipped head light bulb which when they were turned on stopped the engine.Cleaning the earths seems to have got rid of that problem but now i am left with this intermittent fault. The fuel gauge also drops when this occurs and when the ignition is quickly  switched off and on again the faults are cleared untill it decides to reoccur. One thing i have noticed is that during the period of the ignition being swiched off the interior lighting becomes brighter.
  • Vauxhall Corsa C (2000 - 2006) - 01 1.2 Engine cuts out and EML comes on. 6 Feb 2011 (Forum)
When the car has been stood a while, ie. overnight, the rev counter works, until it does the cutting out thing again, but the engine block light is now permanently on, and it seems to be using more fuel than usual. What does this warning light mean.....?? Has anybody else had similair problems with their corsa?
  • Mazda 3 ts2 2.0d 2008 - Sump oil rising fast 14 Dec 2010 (Forum)
I  note from the injector readings that one injector is way different to the other 3.  I note that the sump oil has risen by over 10mm in the last 900 miles.  That the fuel comsumption is 7% less than before.  We live in the country so we tend not to poodle around; 2 x 50 mile trips in the last week. I am not getting any satisfaction from the main dealer, or Mazda.
  • Wiys Jeep MB, 1943. - Petrol additives for Willys Jeep MB. 3 Dec 2010 (Forum)
I bought a 1943 ex French Army Willys Jeep 3 years ago and it came with instructions to add 2-stroke oil and lead replacement additive to each tank of fuel. Having driven it back to the UK from the Alps and renovated various parts I found there was differing advice as to the necessity of these additions. My question is therefore is it necessary to add 2-stroke oil at all or will RedEx do the same thing?
  • Hyundai i20 - Hyundai i 20 10 Nov 2010 (Forum)
Also there is the five year warranty to consider, the dealers have a good reputation, the car is far more modern and nicer to drive than the Getz and economy and performance are up there with the best. However, I did own a Getz and when under warranty was almost faultless and even if the fuel consumption was a bit heavy for a 1.3 ( 37 mpg average) the car was excellent value for money and reasonable to drive. Yet when the warranty went, a month later the ECU decided to die, leaving me stranded and with a £ 600 bill.
  • Second hand diesels - misfuelled? 27 Oct 2010 (Forum)
If there are tens of thousands misfuels each year, does that mean that there are tens of thousands of used diesel on the market waiting to cause the new owner endless grief? It just seems a bit excessive to buy new solely on the ground to ensure it has had the right fuel. Any light shed would be most helpful. Peanut.
  • Volvo V70 / Saab 9-5 estate - What estate for under £3k? 19 Oct 2010 (Forum)
But I don't tow anything and only do 10k miles a year (mostly local runs up to 25 miles, and an occasional motorway slog), so maybe the relative fuel economy bonus of a diesel isn't so important. - Good seats. I'm tall and my back suffers poor support. I've had Saabs and this Volvo, both of which have perfect seats. - Budget: under £3k really.

  • ford c-MAX 2.0 tdci iv ghia - soot and oil on caravan 24 Aug 2010 (Forum)
Also when you look at the exhaust compared to two other 2.0 tdci mondeos I drive the end of the exhaust is much blacker. Another observation about the car is that the normal fuel consumption has gradually gone from the high 30's to the low 30's.  When you touch the material on the car it feels like very thin oil with small pieces of soot in it.
  • Vauxhall Corsa C 1.3 CDTI - Vauxhall Corsa 1.3cdti, buy it? 4 Aug 2010 (Forum)
Is that too much work to do all at once? I have read various reviews on these and are predominatley very good for the fuel usage and ride etc, and says the timing chain should be done every 40 -45k. She picks the car tommorow, does anybody know if ive missed something that I can look for when she gets it. She is PX her (52) plate citroen C3 1.4 petrol with 52000miles on the clock, so she is paying the PX plus £600.
  • Ford Fiesta - Starting Problems 19 Jul 2010 (Forum)
I was given it because it's riddled with problems and is a good place for me to learn on: 1. I have 1 red key and 1 black key. The red one starts the car, the black one opens the fuel filler cap. I cannot lock any doors as they wont unlock again. The boot is locked shut. 2. In the last couple of days the car wont start. It makes a clicking noise from the drivers footwell where I found the immobiliser.
  • Ibiza - Fiesta or Ibiza? Any recs? 30 Jun 2010 (Forum)
I'm looking for a small car, preferably 3 doors, with air con that will be reliable to run, won't drink fuel and will drive well.  I quite like the look of the Fiesta and Ibiza - any opinions on either one or anything else similar?  Budget about £9k plus whatever pennies I get for trading in the Puma!
