Ford Mondeo - Mondeo/Vectra 2005 - petrol or diesel? 24 Jan 2014 (Forum)
in the age range we are looking at (about 2005 reg) the diesel cars are the same price or cheaper to buy, which means that with lower fuel consumption a diesel may be a good idea. We know that for low mileage we don't want a car with a DPF, but everything seems to be turbo diesel.Does that matter? Anything particular to look out for? thanks! -
Suzuki Grand Vitara 5dr - help! bought 4.5k car, 2 weeks later needs 5kwork 30 Aug 2013 (Forum)
Hi, just bought a car from private seller 2 weeks ago for 4.5k..he bought it from dealer in may for same money..found out that the dpf needs replacing( no warning light came on) as does the cat converter...local suzuki garage have quoted me 5.5k to fix this all...the seller of the car is spanish and is going back to spain in 3 weeks, speaks tiny amount of english, but my question is i have heard that the dealer has a responsibilty for 6 months after they sell it... but does that pass on to me as the new owner of the car?? -
Golf Mk 7 Diesel - Golf Mk 7 mpg levels 18 Apr 2013 (Forum)
The real world number will be under 45 mpg. This is much worse than my 170 bhp Mk 5. (After VW sorted the dpf and injector problems.) Do not buy this car for its mpg!!! -
Peugeot 307 - aftermarket particulate filter additive 13 Oct 2012 (Forum)
I was looking on the net at JLM PAT fluid DPF Cleaner. It says it replaces EOLYS 176 and DPX 42. Haynes manual mention that EOLYS 176 and DPX42 are not mixeable or interchangeable so wondered if that EOLYS replacement can really replace both, hence asking if anyone has used it. -
All diesels - Which driving style produces the least diesel soot 24 Jan 2012 (Forum)
Soot is a clear enemy of the modern diesel as it blocks EGR devices and DPF but how do you avoid making the soot in the first place? I have heard four theories: 1.Soot is mainly generated when a car is being driven hard which is why drivers accelerating hard from roundabouts get the characteristic black smoke but not at steady speed. -
Seat Leon 1.9TDI FR - Seat Leon 1.9TDI FR 17 Oct 2011 (Forum)
My 'new' car is a Mk 1 (2004 model) Seat Leon 1.9 TDI FR 150hp, 1 owner, 52k miles and FSH. I decided to buy an older diesel to avoid problems with DPFs and the later piezo injectors fitted to VAG diesels. The 1.9TDI also seems to be a fairly fuel-efficient diesel. Does anyone on here know what problems are likely with this engine/model, any preventative maintenance to prevent problems, etc as I'm conscious the car is 7 years old already and I've never bought a car this old before? -
Skoda Octavia - 1.9PD injectors 2 Aug 2011 (Forum)
The answer was Siemens. So, the HJ car-by-car has it correct. (I also asked if it had a diesel particulate filter (DPF) and they said it didn't.) Having read a lot of bad things on the net about Siemens piezo injectors on VAG diesel engines, my impression is that the Siemens injector failures are way more common on the 2.0 engines (e.g. in the Passat) than on the 1.9 ones, the 1.9 seeming reasonably reliable. -
Ford Focus II (2004 - 2007) - Focus Car Manual / Maintenance Guide? 8 Sep 2009 (Forum)
All, Following advice from HJ I purchased on Friday a 56/07 1.6 TDCi (non-DPF) from Car Giant. Having previously been a one owner company car I got the computer print out history from the leasing company but NO service book / manual etc. I am looking for the basic maintenance guides / service book etc that you would get on the purchase of a new car and wondered if these are available to download or purchase from Ford. -

Toyota Verso - Injectors replaced - car now won't run 14 Sep 2019 (Forum)
The code cleared spontaneously after about 5 days. August - we get a new code P2002 to do with the DPF which our local garage renewed. Then a week or two later both the injector and DPF codes are back. Our garage sends us back to the injector specialist who, for the first time, actually takes a look. -
Fiat Qubo 1.3 Multijet 95 Trekking - Engine management warning light 24 Jan 2015 (Forum)
I explained the car was still within warranty and the bill was then removed. Following this episode I have been reading in your columns of problems with the dpf in the Fiat 500 version and I have found myself driving up and down the A12 so that similar problems don't occur with the Qubo. I even bought a moped to use for short journeys. Finally, I became paranoid about the vehicle, waiting for the engine management light to come on or the dpf to cause a problem. -
Peugeot 307 2. 0 HDI Xsi 136 - PEUGEOT 307 HDI HOT STALLING? 25 Sep 2012 (Forum)
After cleaning the fuel out and refilling with fresh fuel the car still would not start, and even after towing to attempt to bump start it still would not start. The Cat was replaced, the injectors were replaced and the DPF filter was cleaned through with a jet wash and then with DPF cleaner. The car still would not start. The EGR valve was a pain to get to but when removed was completely blocked. A new one was fitted and it appeared the problem had been solved. -
2014 Audi A1 1.6 TDI - EGR Fault and Limp Mode 3 Oct 2023 (Forum)
Anything I can try myself? I've taken it for a good blast, it drives perfectly when the light isn't on; and it completed a DPF regeneration successfully. I just don't understand how one journey it can be fine, then the other not so much...I drove 200 miles without a single issue the other day, but the next day it was terrible. -
Hyundai i30 petrol - Great car except for..... 15 Jun 2019 (Forum)
And the 'Auto Hold' brake function has to be enabled manually for every journey which is a pain as the parking brake is electronic and my wife forgets to set it at start up. On another note, I traded in a diesel car for the Hyundai as I don't do the miles for a DPF to function effectively. But reading the manual for the Hyundai (petrol) I was surprised to see a reference to the possibility of a 'soot' warning light and advice to drive the car at 2k+ revs for at least 15 minutes! -
Nissan X-trail 1.6 T32 - Exhaust electric throttle control actuator 28 Aug 2018 (Forum)
(3) Because of the back pressure in exhaust it also helps to increase temperature within exhaust system to increase temperature within catalytic converter and DPF. (4) Any fault/failure with the Exhaust electric throttle control actuator could have a detrimental effect on other parts of the exhaust/EGR systems. Can anyone confirm if my basic understanding is correct. -
Renault Koleos - Check injection warning but car fine and no errors 7 Mar 2018 (Forum)
Four weeks ago I filled up with Asda diesel and I got a 'Check Injection System/Emissions' message (with spanner). Car went into limp mode so I plopped a bottle of Redex DPF cleaner in. Took car to garage and light went out on the way. No error codes found once plugged in. Car was fine for next two weeks. Filled up again at Asda with diesel. Message comes on again. -
Golf tdi 2009 1.6 - Injector problem 12 Jun 2017 (Forum)
Mechanics cannot tell me what is wrong and seem to say it needs emission reprogramming even though it has run for 3 months and about 1000 miles since the emissions is recall without any issue. Error light was only engine management and not dpf Any ideas? I do not want to take a faulty car back which a hefty bill for something not running properly when I do a lot of miles and rely on it. -
2006 KIA Sorento 2.5 diesel - Any problem in using a low SAPS oil in older car? 9 Apr 2016 (Forum)
My question is, are there any issues to using low SAPS oil in an older vehicle which doesn’t have a DPF? -
VW Sharan 2.0TDI SE Bluemotion 2011 (7N) - VW Sharan 2011 (new shape) poor fuel economy 9 Feb 2015 (Forum)
Tyres are Michelin Energy. It switches off at traffic lights and I follow gear change indicator recommendations. The DPF light is not on and it performs well. Anyone any thoughts on what might be causing this poor economy? To give an indication of my driving style, I have a 2009 Passat Bluemotion 2 with the same 2.0 common-rail engine (but 110bhp with 5spd manual) and normally get 45mpg urban and between 58 and 64mpg on country and dual carriageway roads. -
Ford Kuga - OBD port Issue 23 Jan 2015 (Forum)
A friend in work has an obd Bluetooth reader and plugged it in. Turned out the fault code present was the dpf pressure was low, I'm assuming it was due to short journeys and soot build up. I purchased a similar reader for the real time information feature as well as to read any codes should they appear.
