  • Volkswagen Golf Estate 2L BlueMotion - Advise on Car 16 Jul 2022 (Forum)
Advice on used Golf 2.0 TDI estate BlueMotion 15 plate 60k I work in a community mental health team (UK) in a semi rural area and do a lot of driving, roughly 250 miles a week. Mainly 60 mph-roads but with some town driving and motorway driving. Also do an hour motorway driving about once or twice a month. I’ve found a golf estate 2.0 BlueMotion 15 plate with 60k on the clock.

  • Daihatsu Skywing (like Charade Mk2) - Toothed belt on smooth V-pulleys? 9 Sep 2021 (Forum)
The car seems to drive OK (briefly, since no water pump drive) without the belt so clutch release bearings etc dont seem to be part of the problem.  I can't remember if the drive belts on my previous smooth V-pulley setups had teeth. though I'm pretty sure early ones didn't. and I wonder if the wrong belt might have been fitted.
  • What's the best £20k SUV for fuel economy? 17 Aug 2021 (Ask HJ)

  • Volkswagen Golf Mk6 (2010) 1.4 TSI Automatic - VW Golf Mk6 DQ200 DSG 7 Speed - Worth Keeping? 12 Jan 2021 (Forum)
The gearbox is also "sealed for life", therefore gearbox oil changes at 40,000 mile intervals cannot be carried out. The mileage is only around 56000 miles and the drive in general is really good. I'm a conventional driver averaging about 4000 miles annually, rarely ever speed or drive above the speed limit, but on the odd occasion I do seem to experience a slight jerk whether it's driving off from standstill or whilst driving in general.
  • Wet Macular Degeneration - Eye sight problems. NO SYMPATHY PLEASE! 15 Nov 2020 (Forum)
https://www.macular.org/eylea-injection-treatment Having been through the trauma of advising a friend not to drive and then finally writing to DVLA to let them know of my concerns, I am determined not to go down the same route. If I am advised to stop driving or am not happy to continue I will do so! Using the Amsler test my vision is fine, and so far there are no missing bits...and my vision is good for driving too.
  • Can you suggest an automatic car that handles potholes well? 10 Nov 2020 (Ask HJ)

  • Looking for a new Compact SUV 4 Oct 2020 (Forum)
I am mainly a weekend suburb driver although due to a recent office relocation I may soon start driving to work (lots of start and stop in heavy traffic). About 50 KM a day. I was playing around with idea of a Hybrid especially if I do start driving to work. I'd appreciate thoughts if the higher purchase price is worth it?
  • Should I go for a petrol or diesel if I drive 10,000 miles per year? 24 Jul 2020 (Ask HJ)

  • MINI Cooper - Mini DCT automatic 7 Jun 2019 (Forum)
She's considering either a Mini Cooper or a Mercedes A180 petrol. Both would have to be automatics as that's all she can drive. I understand both cars use a 7 speed DCT automatic box which as far as I can tell is supplied by Getrag. I have read reports of the A class being slow to pull out from junctions. We did test drive the A class but they only had a diesel & I found that difficult to pull out smoothly.

  • VW Polo 1.2 E 2003 - 1.2 Polo Disapeering oil 26 Dec 2017 (Forum)
Anyway I rang the dealer as the car has 1 month warranty, and he said top it up to full and drive it back to dealship 50 odd miles. Oil was still full when I got there so he said keep driving it and keeping an eye on it. Im probably jumping the gun with this post and need to wait out the next week or so as I clock up the milage & keep checking the oil.
