SAAB 9-3 1.8T Vector Sport vs Toyota Avensis 1.8 - feedback requested on reliability and drive 24 Jun 2010 (Forum)
Also comments on this forum are more -ive than +ive, with general feedback indicating that their reliability is on par with Renaults and that the AA men are very familiar with attending this car. Repairing cars in this recession. 5 Oct 2008 (Forum)
Quick strip down, decoke, regrind valves and new valve stem seals, possibly re-ring and shell if needed, £thousands reduced to £hundreds. Last set of diesel injectors i had overhauled for £40 the lot (Renault 21), seems almost a lifetime now, and the costs i hear of similar work runs to ridiculous figures. Obviously the newer computerised everything cars will be almost impossible to fix without the use and knowledge of very complex equipment, will we see a renewed demand for those superb easy to work on a well designed cars of 80's/90's, carina/corolla/primera/cavalier/405/loads more contenders. -

also i have changed the gearbox oil and refilled with 3.5 litres of comma ep75-80w which is the correct spec, there were no traces of metal in th old oil. and i have checked the engine.gearbox mountings as best i can by rocking the engine, and also revving it when stationary and can't find any excessive movement. and as it's a renault box ive had the gearbox carter of the end and double checked the torque of the nut on the 5th gear cluster which is fine although ill be fitting a new nut anyway tomorrow but this is a known problem with this gearbox so i checked it anyway. -
Japanese versus the rest. 21 Feb 2003 (Forum)
(Note I said owners rather than drivers - if your company is paying the bill I can quite see that you'll choose the one *you* want to drive rather than worry about the bills). We have a Yaris AND a Maestro so have a foot in each camp. I've had Renaults, Fords, Peugeots, Rovers.....so don't have an axe to grind but given that you can now get a Jap. to suit all tastes ie. Lexus instead of BMW or Merc. Micra/Yaris instead of Corsa/Pug 206. Landcruiser/Nissan X.Trail instead of Disco/Freelander. -
