  • BMW E36 1998 316i - Coolant Flush 23 Oct 2023 (Forum)
Evening, I picked up an old e36 to get me around and learn how to maintain cars myself. My thermostat is sticking open on the motorway and the engine temp is dropping on longer journeys so I'm looking at replacing it. I've always been a bit mystified when it comes to coolant systems and been wary of messing with them.
  • Mazda CX-30 - Brake fluid change! 9 Sep 2023 (Forum)
Took my car to the dealers this morning for its 3 year service and first MOT. I was asked if I wanted a brake fluid change which would be an extra £100. I said that I would have thought this would be part of a service at some point but they said it wasn't, it is just recommended that the fluid is changed every 2 years.
  • Volkswagen T-Roc - T-Roc R-Line, Keep Golf GT, or something different 2 Oct 2022 (Forum)
Hi all  My old man is thinking of ridding his T-Roc in favour of a Honda Jazz (he retires this year). He's asked if I want to buy it for £27K and pay in 3 instalments. I have been saving so it is doable though I had planned to go for a high reliability hybrid such as a RAV4 for my next car.
  • Headlights 4 Dec 2019 (Forum)
Truly an awkward job, had me cursing and vowing to flog the Civic at the earliest opportunity, together with hands cut to shreds. It got me wondering which cars have decent non HID  lights. The Civic comes with H7 main and dip, our focus the same but the focus lights are excellent by comparison. None can compete with the superb lights on the poverty spec 12 year old Panda believe it or not.
  • 2009 Peugeot 207 petrol - Coolant temperature problem 25 Feb 2019 (Forum)
Hi all, I just bought this as a second hand car from a person and I realized the following possible issue. When I start driving, I see that the coolant temp. gauge increases and hits close to 90 C. but the issue is that this takes a loooong time.
  • Toyota Corolla - Hub caps/wheel trims. 22 Dec 2018 (Forum)
They did not fit because of the inside of my wheels. I chose these as they look far better than the original old hub caps. Are there 14 inch Toyota hub caps that would fit my wheels. My local garage did say that the inside of modern Toyota's may have changed. Or do you think I'll be stuck with something from eBay with no Toyota centre caps. ?
  • Ford Focus - 2009 Focus 1.6 petrol Clutch Life 8 Oct 2017 (Forum)
I (my wife) has a 2009 Focus 1.6 petrol. Which we have had since 7 months old.  IT has done 62K miles and has never so far had any fault other than a loose aircon union which drained tghe gas and was ok after tightening and re-gassing. It has been serviced by me since the warranty expired with the proper synth oil at 12 months regardless of mileage and has been garaged (my car lives outside !!).
  • Can I check my insurance claim history? 15 Mar 2017 (Forum)
I insure three cars for myself and the family.   Over the years, I've made a few (about 4 or 5?) claims for minor damage usually involving wing mirrors / vandalism / windscreen.   Every time I shop around for insurance, I get asked how many claims I've made in the last 3 or 5 or 7 years.

  • BMW 330i Traveller - Have I been charged twice on some things? 30 Aug 2016 (Forum)
Now have I missed something here? (I am old) but BMW says the on the road price includes these things but the dealer has charged me for them. An explanation would be gratefully received if I have missed the obvious. Thanks.
  • Nissan Leaf Ford Modeo Lexus IS250 - 12k second hand commuter under 6k£ 20 Mar 2016 (Forum)
What's your take? What kind of mileage I can reasonably find for 6k£? Primarily I want a very reliable car, running costs are secondary.   Cheers
  • Honda Jazz EV - Oil Capacity query 15 Oct 2015 (Forum)
Took car off ramps and ran assuming it would drop once circulated, but no. Still a week later well over. I measured the oil I took out when I took it to recycling centre.... +/- 3.5lt out, 3 litres in and well over!?!
  • Insurance-provide proof of NCB 15 Aug 2015 (Forum)
What experience have readers had when providing proof of the number of years of no claims when changing insurers and insuring their car. The norm seems to be that you are sent a SAE with your insurance certificate--then you return a copy of the renewal documents of your old insurer. All well and good, provided it is properly clocked by the new insurance company.
  • Nissan Primera P12 2.0 Petrol Hachback Dec 2002 - Primera 2.0 P12 Clutch and front X member replace? 14 Apr 2015 (Forum)
Hi everybody, Old Nissan Primera with 94k miles. Very reliable but needs a new clutch in near future and a new front X member, (replacement due to rust). What would be the reasonable garage going rate for Clutch replacement?
  • LPG Problems 14 Dec 2014 (Forum)
I purchased, in December 2000, an 8-month old Vauxhall Vectra SRi, factory LPG conversion, with 13,000 miles on the clock. After about 7 months and a further 12,000 miles, the performance on LPG deteriorated rapidly until the car would no longer drive on gas at all, but was fine on petrol.
  • any - have second hand prices gone daft - example. 12 Oct 2014 (Forum)
Looking round for a jolly old motor once again, in the lower reaches of the well-used market, the world seems to have turned upside down.  In days gone by I found Parker's always over-estimated prices and dealers were generally fairly reasonable if you looked round enough.
  • Corsa 13cdti. - 2010 corsa diesel history 6 Jul 2014 (Forum)
I'm looking at buying a 1.3 cdti corsa and I've seen a few that are described as having a full service history, and when I've looked at this, the services have been done following the mileage of the car. The service interval is every 20,000 miles for one of these and basically I've seen a few that have long time periods between services 2 or 3 years as they haven't been used that much. There hasn't been this long a gap between every service but I saw one model that was 6 years old and with 3 stamps in the book as it had only done 34k, but there was a gap of 3 years between the second and last service as it only covered 5k in that time.
  • Query: scooter/m'bike : quickest route to mobility 18 Jun 2014 (Forum)
At this moment he has NO form of car or motorbike licence, not even provisional.   In order to jump through the fewest hoops possible in order to get mobile, would the machine have to be less than 50cc?
  • Ford Focus 1.8 Diesel TDCi 2004 - Coil light flashes bad starter 6 Feb 2014 (Forum)
I have an F-super 2 diagnostic but it doesn't recognise my ECU, I have tracked the unit and it is a standard Ford unit although seems to be 2002 spec, I have a feeling these late 2004 models were a collection of old bits before they changed engines the following year.Have looked at some of the sensors but nothing obvious. Can't get rid of the coil light no matter what, even using a Snaptool scanner. Any ideas?
