  • Audi 1.6 & Speedo cheating! 19 Mar 2004 (Forum)
(are they hiding them???) Another issue that came was the possibility to hide the true milage of the specific car by turning back the odometer. My old man argues that it´s still possible (with conventional tech.) to "turn back time" while I insist that these latest technology instruments don´t allow such "modifications".
  • footballer coul face homicide charge 7 Jul 2003 (Forum)
Frightening story... South Africa and Orlando Pirates super star Mbulelo "Old John" Mabizela could face charges of culpable homicide if his friend, who has been in a coma for seven days, does not recover. Mabizela's friend, Nkanyiso Nzimande, sustained serious head injuries when the car which was driven by Mabizela veered off the N3 motorway near Howick, rolled and crashed into a tree.
  • Forester sturbo vs xtrail tdi 23 May 2003 (Forum)
, dealer prices seem to vary wildly, do they just pitch them high and expect big negotiations. Imports can be had for £17.5k and they still want £13k for a 3yr old 50k car. Any opinions on the cars themselves? I figure the sturbo is faster better handling but less cargo space whereas the xtrail is newer therefore less problems, better looking (!) and more economical .
  • Faulty Tail Lights 29 Apr 2003 (Forum)
After all, it was a very wet night and I suppose rain could get in and blow a bulb. But for so many cars to have the same problem - surely not. I definitely noted a 52 Reg Volvo at one point so it wasn't just old bangers either. This probably sounds like a petty gripe, but it can be extremely confusing when your driving up behind a motorbike, only to find out its not a bike after all.
  • Rear rattle ....! Omega + Focus 13 Jan 2003 (Forum)
I've spend ages trying to pin the problem down - I won't detail exactly whats been done - you will see my logic shortly. I'd like to solve the problem, but frankly on a 90,000 mile car that is 5 years old I've just learn't to put up with it. Imagine my shock when this weekend I had a Focus on test drive/demo from Ford. A 3,000 mile Ghia TDCi. I was frankly amazed by the performance of the car, when coupled with the fuel economy & spec - a real little "belter".
  • Unhappy Accord gearbox 7 May 2002 (Forum)
This is what HJ's car-by-car breakdown has to say about the UK Honda Accord 98 onwards. <<<< What's Bad Reports of problems with manual gearboxes. Serious problem with the printed circuit boards that control the automatic load compensating headlamp beam adjusters of Type Rs which may become the subject of a safety recall. >>>> Can anyone elaborate on what the "problems with manual gearboxes" actually are?
  • More ammo for HJ 21 Oct 2001 (Forum)
Just returned from holiday in France (you know, those people who love the British so much). Rented a Laguna - having asked for a Vectra. Nice car but whilst there I managed to achieve a blow out on a front tyre (don't ask). No problem, thought I, there's a full size spare, and the car has only done 3k kms. Aha, but there's a pictogram on the dash which indicates useful things like "there's a door not closed", "a tyre is overinflated", "a tyre is underinflated", etc, etc.
  • Car with similar performance of Citroen C3Airdream 8 Jul 2014 (Forum)
Good infotainment (Bluetooth Phone and Music streaming), SatNav (7 digit postcode) 6. Cruise Control, parking sensors 7. Saloon car or Hatchback but not Estate car I dont mind the car brand much so I am fine with new entry cars like Hyundai etc. My budget is around 15K (Cash payment, no loan/finance) and I am thinking of buying an used car (2-3 years old with mileage upto 25K).
  • Floods. 7 Nov 2001 (Forum)
There is a huge difference between what any vehicle might do in a dire emergency and what will be good for it long term. I have two land Rovers at present, one is ex-farm and 40yrs old the other 20yrs old and ex-off road enthusiast owned. Just doing the wheel bearings and brakes on both. The off-road trialling one is absolutely wrecked in every respect when you look at the drivetrain and brakes, far too much time spent in deep muddy water.
  • Vauxhall Zafira A - Electrical gremlins or something else? 11 Sep 2017 (Forum)
Disconnecting battery and reconnecting it added the immobiliser light until I disconnected things for longer. After leaving things for a few hours, I reconnected battery and car started fine, no lights. Again, it died after a little while. I've since borrowed a multimeter and both old and new batteries were fine, and alternator was giving about 14.2V at idle with nothing on and about 13.6V at idle with headlights, heaters, demisters etc at max - so I don't think it's charging related.
  • New Small Cars - nothing to buy... 5 Jan 2009 (Forum)
I have a feeling again that it might be a good time to have a new car, I've been out this week to check on some of the latest models. My Colt 3dr is now almost 3 years old and performed well, I've had a couple of minor issues with regards to rattles and Mitsubishi customer service but nothing that would prevent me from buying the same model/brand again, especially as the number one factor space is well taken care of.
  • Shared ownership of car - advice sought 29 Aug 2011 (Forum)
What if one wants to sell the car and the other not. I have got to the stage where I have confused myself. I used to post under the name Rita - have had to reregister so am now Rita meter maid. If any of my old sparring partners are around I would welcome their input on ther above.
  • Civic? - Recommend a car please. 4 Apr 2010 (Forum)
Tried Nissan Note and did not like it. both times 1.4s. and have no idea how 3+ years old cars in my budget would drive in comparison. Drove friend’s bMW3 diesel for a very short while and found it quite hard. anyway if anyone would kindly recommend cars that are good v4m, suitable for my commute and represent best choice taking into account my skills/insurance/practicality – i would appreciate your opinions.
  • Crash in NW London 23 Jul 2009 (Forum)
My BiL has had a singularly bad piece of luck. Driving his 2 year old Auris diesel with his wife and both adult children as passengers in Neasden or Wembley, he was run into by another car and the Auris written off. He said the other car, containing an Indian family with a baby in a child seat, came round a l/h bend - r/h to my BiL of course - apparently out of control, hit the kerb on its own n/s and came across the road, hit a parked car and then crashed head-on into my BiL's car, n/s front to n/s front...
  • Ford C-MAX (2003 - 2010) - 04 1.6 Warning 12 May 2009 (Forum)
A cautionary tale. Bought 04 Ford C-Max CVT auto (1.6 TdCi) from a franchised Vauxhall dealer. Ex-motability car 18,000 miles, three years old, full main dealer history with 1 year warranty. Car immediately started hesitating - generally at about running pace accelerating from a standing start - leaving you stranded in the middle of roundabouts.
  • Colchester dealerships - The merry go round 23 Jul 2025 (Forum)
Skoda now share what was the VW site near the football stadium and take up 50% of the showrooms which are "separated"  but same receptionist on the door who will direct as needed. Nearest Vauxhall dealer is now a trek up to Bury st Edmunds. The Old Vauxhall site is now Honda cars and motorcycles and Mazda. Kia ( Now Glyn Hopkin ) have moved up to the top of Ipswich road by the A12 to the ex Honda site and recently joined by Glyn Hopkin Nissan who have moved out of a constricted site in the town which was shared with Renault and dacia all of which were Glyn Hopkin.
  • What did she choose? 12 Mar 2025 (Forum)
Reliable Good for her commute which includes driving around West Yorkshire at rush hour Also good for occasional longer trips of 1-2 hours to see family and visit sites for work  Sensible insurance quote which needed to include business use Less than 10 years old and due to the commute in heavy traffic (and her being lazy!) an auto gearbox.
  • Skoda Fabia - Is there known issue for VAG 1.0TSI ? 14 Nov 2024 (Forum)
We are looking to replace our 10 year old Citroen C4 Picasso.  The car has been running okay but need to downsize so that our son can drive when he passes his driving test in next few month. We quite like Skoda Fabia Hatchback and our budget is around 10k which will enable us to get one post 17/67 reg.
  • Xsara Picasso 2008 petrol - Help - Engine oil won’t drain 24 Jun 2024 (Forum)
And ran the car 5 minutes to warm the oil. Made no difference. Filler cap was undone. Ive removed the new filter and housing and refitted. Made no difference. No oil warning light showing but the engine is making that noise due to the overfilling.
  • Dacia Sandero - What's the best choice? 13 Apr 2024 (Forum)
Sadly, it's getting much harder to get hold LPG where I live (and the price has doubled in three years) Also the current model I have has gone up by £4000 in three years, so I doubt I'd be able to buy another one (and keep the monthly payments under £200 per month)  I have been thinking about getting either a three year old electric Mg5 estate, or a hybrid Honda Jazz (current model) I'm just a bit worried about doing lots of miles with a 2nd hand car. Are these solid buys?  Is there any equity normally left a PCP deal to help with a deposit for the next vehicle?
