Mercedes Benz C-Class W203 (2000 - 2007) - 01 2.2 loss of power,jerking,smoking and hissing . 5 Aug 2009 (Forum)
Hello ALL I just got a 2001 w203 merc that's done 169000miles.All was fine until i first noticed recently on a highway that i couldn't accelerate well enough to overtake or go above 135k.For a while this was only on long distances, but recently, the car gives off a bit too much smoke and any attempts at intant accelaration gives off a screeching and hissing noise, intermittent jerks and the engine feels like its stiffled. There 's been no check engine sign and replacing the MAF,fuel filter or decarbonating the air circuit has not helped so far(though we got out huge lumps of accumulated soot). We've also not been able to diagnose any engine faults.Did i mention the awful black smoke from the exhaust?? -
Honesty pays & makes you feel good 9 Jul 2009 (Forum)
He rewarded me instantly with £40 for a meal for my wife & I & a bottle of red wine as well. I had made someone a very happy chappy & I felt very good too. Apparently he has stopped for fuel & put his grandaughter back in the car & left his wallet on the roof & then lost it at the first roundabout. I just hope that some day should I do the same that some one would do the same for me Tenuous link to motoring but a feelgood story nonetheless - first one to start moaning gets chopped ! -
KIA Cee'd (2007 - 2010) - Just Bought a White Car 14 May 2009 (Forum)
Bit of a come down size wise but the trade in was not too bad compared to the price offered back end of last year and which according to the Glasses guide prices at the time was plummeting by the month. I wonder if 4x4 prices have stabilized after the panic reaction over fuel and VED duty? Or as more folk are caravanning as opposed to jetting off to sunnier climes and do they now need something half decent too tow with? The Sorento is only in the £210 duty band. (ONLY he says! -
Skoda Felicia (1995 - 2000) - 1999 1.3 intemitent starting problem 1 May 2009 (Forum)
when the car starts its on the button but when its playing up its in the hands of the gods. i feel its a problem with the automatic choke but am not 100%. when it wont start: i turn the key and it starts but cuts out, i then have to remove the key and start again, sometimes if i put it in gear and turn the key ( start it in gear ) it starts and keep running, when it is running its a bit lumpy sounding and when i clutch and brake to come to a stop the revs drop to 500 from 750, sometimes thay drop to 400 and the car cut out but thats when the engines cold. the plugs are good and the ignition is good, the engine has only done 32000 when its hard to start and it starts the smell of fuel is heavy and if i stall the engine and try to restart it it hesitates like its flooded. there is no plug in diagnostics and cant afford a mechanic and cant afford to buy a throttle body and thats not the problem. -
FIAT Grande Punto (2006 - 2009) - Any owner experiences? 1 May 2009 (Forum)
Not sure if we have paid a bit too much but its only done 4 miles, pre-reg Stripe edition, got a full tank of fuel, 12 months VED, mats etc for £6900. We did look at these in July when they came out and were around 9K so quite happy we waited a few months! Hopefully we will get as good a service as we have had from the Rover over the next 6-7 years. -
Peugeot 106 (1991 - 2002) - 93 1.1 Cutting out and wont start when hot 29 Apr 2009 (Forum)
I removed one of the plugs when it was hot and there was NO spark? So its clearly an electrical problem. (This model has a carb and not fuel injection) I thought this problem might be the coil, but this has been replaced and the problem is the same, i have also checked the dizzy cap and rotor arm (these are by no means new but seem ok.. and seeing as it runs fine when cold didnt think this would be the cause? -
Peugeot 106 (1991 - 2002) - 93 1.1 Starts and runs ok then cuts out when hot? 23 Apr 2009 (Forum)
Hi All I have a little Pug 106 1.1XN 1993 which when cold starts first time and runs very well however after about 10 mins (ie when its hot) it then starts to cut out, then dies totally and cannot be restarted. I removed one of the plugs when its hot and there was NO spark? This model has a carb and not fuel injection. I thought this problem might be the coil, but this has been replaced and the problem is the same, i have also checked the dizzy cap and rotor arm (these are by no means new but seem ok.. and seeing as it runs fine when cold didnt think this would be the cause? -
Audi 80 Mk II (1991-1995) - 91 2.0 Mk I or II? 23 Apr 2009 (Forum)
I've noticed a constant, whine/hum coming from under the car which is on even with the vehicle standing. Is this normal and something to do with the fuel system or brakes or something? Thanking you in advance. -
Peugeot Expert Tepee (2007 - ) - 01 2.0 HDi Loss of Power 13 Feb 2009 (Forum)
The condition now appears to be there permanently. Over several weeks I have replaced MAF and diaphragm. I have also replaced return pipe in fuel line as all these required replacement. Each time these seemed to cure/help the problem for a limited period of time. I have had the fault codes read several times which helped with diagnosing the parts already replaced but yesterday the code displayed was: Diagnose Code ( 000246 Relay A Of Turbocompressor Exhaust Valve I have no idea what this means. -
Happy New Year from New Zealand 30 Dec 2008 (Forum)
Makes you realise just how much $$$ our darling UK Government makes off us at the pumps! Clearly the NZ government don't tax fuel (much), but the motorist just has to put up with "challenging" roads. What would you prefer?! -
Renault Clio II (2001 - 2007) - 04 1.2 Immobiliser 4 Dec 2008 (Forum)
Hi my 04 clio 1.2 was involved in a minor bump yesterday morning, light impact with another car damaging the front of mine, no airbags etc deployed. Since this the car wont start, I rang renaults who informed me my car does not have a fuel shut off switch, and even it did I believe the car should turn over.. I cant see any broken wires, or any blown any fuses, and my key remote still works perfectly locking and unlocking the car, however the immobilser light remains on all the time, and flashes fast when you attempt to start engine it is obviously not being deactivated as usual. -

Peugeot 206 SW (2002 - 2006) - 04 1.4 car won't fire 9 Oct 2008 (Forum)
I called the breakdown recovery and after he failed to start it he asked me to turn it over whilst he looked under the bonnet....within a few seconds she started fine! he told me that there was air in my fuel Pipe? and showed me how to pump it whilst somebody turned it over.... he advised I filled it up to the brim. Which I did last night. The car started great this morning but when leaving for home this afternoon it did the same again, I got a work friend to pump the 'black balloon' and 'voila' she fired up!! -
I have started to cycle 1 Sep 2008 (Forum)
My misses is even getting a bike so we can cycle to the supermarket eventually ( not the one we like but the nearest one - its more expensive but still cheaper than buying the extra fuel ). We got fed up bouncing along the overdraft point these last couple of months despite both of us working and never leaving the house unless going to work or to buy food. Turns out that there are some good shortcuts atleast when on a bike! -
Black smoke under power, some do, some don't. 30 Aug 2008 (Forum)
.;) Neither of these vehicles is lacking in torque, so its not that the engines are being starved of fuel, why can some makers diesels run clean and others not? -
Rover 400 (1995 - 1999) - 1999 1.4 ECU Advice 27 Aug 2008 (Forum)
Never heard of this before, and wondered if this is a practical option? Also, will it cause a severe rise in fuel consumption? Just concerned as total bill is £450 as it is (maybe not too bad considering he's fitting new timing belt, doing a service, and fitting new head gasket). Thanks in advance -
Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 96 dTurbo - new car, various problems. 26 Aug 2008 (Forum)
Nex questing, can someone confirm how tight the cambelt should be on these. at the moment i feel i could prise it off with my finger tips. i was taught that a quatre turn in the section between the cam crank and the fuel pump was about right. this one will do over twice that.!! thanks in advance. hopfully i can help as many peeps on here as help me. Moved over from Discussion - subject line tweaked -
Citroen Xantia (1993 - 2000) - 1996 1.8 16v - error code number 31 21 Jul 2008 (Forum)
My xantia is using to much fuel, i had it on a cit diagnostic tool and came up with code no 31- this has about ten items which could be the fault- from ignition system to wiring to air filter and spark plugs (which I have changed recently- so these are ok). one of the other options was lambda sensor. -
Renault Clio II (1998 - 2001) - 1998 1.2 - non starter 20 Jul 2008 (Forum)
i asked on another forums and have been doin some checks but now dont know what to do. i checked the fuel, pump seems fine and there is petrol right up to the injector unit. checked the spark plugs and they seem to be sparking fine, although they are bone dry. so i'm assuming the problems with the injectors. -
Ford S-MAX (2006 - ) - 2.2 TDCi engine and run flats - experiences? 14 Jul 2008 (Forum)
Just wondered if anyone had any real world experience of this engine in the S-Max, good or bad (I've seen the thread about the dodgy mapping - did a fix for this ever emerge?) In particular has anyone measured the real world fuel consumption... I'm slightly sceptical about the published figures (combined economy: 2.2 = 42.8mpg vs. 2.0 = 44.1mpg; and the 2.2 supposedly more economical on the extra-urban cycle: 2.2 = 54.3mpg vs. 2.0 = 52.3mpg!).
