Fabia vrS buying experience 23 May 2006 (Forum)
Well I decided, what the heck what is redundancy money for, and went out and bought a Fabia vrS today. One year old, 05 plate in bright red. It was a total different buying experience to any car have had before. It was bought from a small independent Skoda dealer. He knocked £500 off screen price for not having a trade in. -
Volvo 850/V70 Diesel Auto - Good Buy? 2 Jan 2006 (Forum)
Currently have a 12year old Toyota corolla which has 110K miles, no creaks or knocks so rather surprised with the Volvo.! I now need an economical large automatic estate car capable of occisionally towing a very large 4berth caravan during the summer - any other recommendations anyone ? -
Volvo 850 t5 ABS pump leaking 4 Nov 2005 (Forum)
Unfortunately, my parents old 94L 850 T5 has developed a leak from the ABS pump, which it is presumed needs replacing. Due to the age and value of the car, I do not think it is worth fitting a new pump even at main dealer "trade" prices- about 650 plus VAT for the part. -
Bird Poo marks on paint 3 Oct 2005 (Forum)
It looked fine and I thought I had done the trick. 3 weeks on and I cleaned the car this weekend and when chammying dry I could see the poo marks again, both of them with a sort of haze where I had polished around them. I am horrified. The car is just 6 months old! What is next? Do I use paint renovator on the whole bonnet followed by the polish on wait and see Volvo? -
Fiesta 1.6S - Grand Theft Auto! 7 Aug 2005 (Forum)
Picture the scene: Friday 5th August 5:45am Rudely awaken from a dreamless sleep. 5:46am Look out of window to see a couple of gits speeding off in my 14 year old Fiesta (I didn't know the car was capable of such speeds!). 5:47am Phone police to report it. 6:10am Police arrive and take details but don't offer counselling. Well, I couldn't belive my luck, could I? -

Impreza - Repairs / de-mods 6 Apr 2005 (Forum)
Help! I have bought a pre-enjoyed Impreza. Sept 2001 (last of the old shape) turbo 2000. There are a couple of things which are "wrong" with the car which I need to rectify. For info she is a UK car there are 37,000 on her and she has had three previous male owners who had her as a second car. -
Impreza WRX - shall I, shan't I 10 Feb 2004 (Forum)
This isn't really a "what car shall I buy" thread, really just seeing if I am going to make a spectacle of myself. I currently drive a 2001 Wobbly 3.0 Omega which for reasons I've posted before I've got to get rid of. None of the cars I've driven in the past(mostly company cars) can I honestly say I've enjoyed driving - particularly the Omega. -
Mondeo Valuation 4 Oct 2003 (Forum)

The car has had 5000 mile oil and filter services since I have owner the car (2 years). The origonal handbooks are with the car, and has had 2 previous owners. The car is MOT'd and taxed until Jan' 2004. -
2000 Honda Accord paint problems 14 Sep 2003 (Forum)
Is this an isolated problem, or have other people with metallic Hondas suffered a similar issue? Or non-metallic Hondas, come to that. I know that the answer is probably to wash the car more often, but it's surprising that these deposits were no older than a week and still did so much damage. By comparison, my 16-year old metallic VW Jetta gets washed about once every 3 months and doesn't have any damage to the lacquer! -
Faulty alternator 1 Jul 2003 (Forum)
At this stage I was not entirely certain whether I would have wanted a new alternator fitted, as I would probably investigated buying a used one whilst the car is so old and the last new one lasted such a short time. Anyway as he had returned the car and seemed to have everything in hand I thought no more of it. This was back in April. Today I have received a bill for the new alternator, minus 30% discount - total £108.03, so presume he had no luck with the supply company in recovering the full amount (Unipart - I believe.) -
Megane - what's happening 1 Jan 2003 (Forum)
Although its bucketing down, the engine is bone dry and the HT leads seem in good condition despite being almost 5 years old. I have to say that the HT leans don't seem that tight a fit on the top of the plugs - they pop into place but there is some movement. The car was last run on Boxing day a 200 mile return trip with it performed faultlessly. -
E class Merc W211 vs BMW 5 E39 / E60 28 Aug 2002 (Forum)
s this paragon or engineering excellence like to drive? In a word, brilliant. ...... ...... There is no other saloon car quite like it. It really is ?engineered like no other car in the World?. ...." In last weeks Sunday Times, Jeremy Clarkson says of the new E class: "..... I guess that?s why the BMW 5-series, now in its sixth and final year on sale, is still the car to beat. -
Car for missus 8 Jul 2001 (Forum)
The missus is after a new car to replace an aged, but still in very nice nick, Cinqecento. She wants a sporty car, preferably a Mazda MX 5. Budget is reasonably flexible but I think £8000 to £12000 is in the ball park. So, is it worth getting the 1.8i 'S' over the base model? -
Honda Accord 2006 mk 7 - Shock Absorber with Headlight Level Sensor Bracket 31 Mar 2025 (Forum)
My front passenger side shock absorber has failed completely (oil everywhere in front arch) and lots of knocking and banging. Bought a new Sachs Shock for my mechanic to fit but he's had to put the old one back on as its missing a bracket that goes up to what we've identified is the levelling sensor for the Xenon HID headlights. The bracketv s welded on to the side of the shock so cannot be transferred, and the new one has this pointy but that locates it in the hub fork which is welded on so would be in thexway if we tried to cut off the one on the old shock, and my mechanic is unwilling to do any modification. -
Wrongly accuse of being in an accident 27 Mar 2007 (Forum)
She told me and it was not my name, or anybody I know. I have never lent my car to anybody either. My options are I attend court and defend this or I don't attend and my old insurers will pay out and I will have this claim on my record. I have checked my records and on the day of this accident I was at work, some 200 miles from where this accident took place. -
Pug 405 Oil Leak from engine mount 22 Aug 2003 (Forum)
Crankcase pressure DOES seem a little high, but all accessible breathers have been checked and are clear. The car has never used any oil between changes, and I have always used Mobil 1. I have run the car for the last 4 years (bought with 99k, now on 126k & FSH before then), without it missing a beat. Does anybody have any suggestions? -
2017 Hyundai Tucson 2.0 TDCI Premium SE auto 4x4 - Problems on a nearly new low mileage car 13 Mar 2018 (Forum)
Never experienced such an issue in 14+ years of driving various cars. – Electronic hand brake doesn’t release on occasion… – car manual says 2 year/20000 mile service interval, however, the car came up with a service required message one day after purchase. -
Ford Focus - Used Car Dealer!!! Help Needed!!!! 16 Oct 2012 (Forum)
In my opinion, it looked of good quality, low mileage and at a good cost (8000 miles, 1 owner and I year old). The dealer said that he had 5 people interested in it and not wanting to lose it I paid a initial £300 deposit. However, speaking to my insurance, and due to the fact it will also be used as a family car, I wanted peace of mind and know the car was road worthy so I purchased a comprehensive vehicle inspection with the RAC before I paid the remaining balance. -
Car model longevity -- a systematic approach 4 Feb 2010 (Forum)
All we need is a list of what sold what in each year, vs how many of them were still around in the latest set of stats, and we have a % still on the road for each year. Prejudice then goes in the bin. Skewed results because of people not noticing as many old cars that sold 1000 vs another model that sold 100,000 go in the bin. Large-scale anecdotes from HJ are rendered redundant. We have a simple list of which cars go to the crusher fastest, and when.
