  • Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - Auction prices 1.8LX 26 Jun 2008 (Forum)
Can anyone advice what 3 year old 1.8LX's are running through the auctions at? Someone has told me high mileage (around 8ok) ones are running through at an Archer which sounds ridiculously cheap.

  • Models axed prematurely. 27 Jun 2006 (Forum)
We've had therads on here about longest production runs and cars that lived on way past their obselescence. How about cars that were axed prematurely by their makers and deserved a longer run. My vote goes for the BMW Z3. Even now they look prettier than the Z4 and don't look dated.

  • Smelly Car 2 Mar 2003 (Forum)
What would cause a car (with CAT) to smell horribly like eggs after a high rev run. The run doesn't even have to be that long. I dont think its the fuel im using cause i've switched to different good brands, but the problem remains. It is ok if I dont use high revs that much.
  • 2007 Ford Focus 1.8 TDCI - High Fuel Pressure issue 8 Jun 2021 (Forum)
RAC suggested a bit of dirt as seemed to sort its self. The issue has occured again but my local garage are not confident of what the issue is. Once running the car runs faultlessly with no issues. I do most of the maintenance myself but never had to get involved in the computer of fuel system side! As there are no symptoms when the car is running could the issue be the pressure sensor on the rail, mass air sensor... cant see it being the pump if the pressure is too high or the filter as surely if there was resistance their I would have hesitation/loss of power under high rev?
  • Ford Fiesta Mk6 1.4 petrol - Fiesta electrical start up routine delayed/issue 10 Apr 2021 (Forum)
I don't know what the correct procedure is, but I am thinking that maybe the CAN bus controller is running some type of checking, and for some reason getting delayed ? The runs perfectly in all other respects, it's just this start up delay that I'm concerned about. Any advice would be much appeciated.
  • Audi A1 Sportback - AUDI A1 1.6TDI 105 BHP FAILS TO START OR RUN 15 Aug 2014 (Forum)
They decided to change all Injectors!!!!! Not sure why but a stab in the dark maybe. The car did start for them but is running really rough!!! They are now carrying out further tests to see if they can nail the fault. Any suggestions would be welcome as even Audi themselves are baffled by it.
  • Citroen Berlingo Multispace 1.9D DW8 - Cold start stuck? 8 Nov 2012 (Forum)
I found the following post on another website: I am currently running a Peugeot Partner 1.9D (DW8 engine) for work, on 100% diesel, it has never seen anything other than pump diesel.... However, it has developed a fault whereby it will ALWAYS idle at around 1100rpm, regardless of running temperature.
  • 1996 Astra 1.6 16v - Poorly running Astra 23 Mar 2012 (Forum)
Hi all, this has got me really stumped!!! My astra is running really really hot, has hardly any acceleration, but revs fine when stationary. My problems started a few months back when the woodruff key wore and made the crankshaft pulley loose, sending the timing way out!!
  • VW Passat 1.9TDI 100 (PD) - MPG seems too low? 28 Jan 2012 (Forum)
I've been running a Passat Estate 1.9TDI 100bhp engine (PD), for just over 2 weeks now, and the mpg seems a bit lower than I expected.  Mainly I've been doing work runs (25mile journey each way, on back roads so not being able to cruise at high speed and speed is up and down etc).
  • Rover 400 (1995 - 1999) - 96 1.4 ECU fault question 8 Jul 2009 (Forum)
The car let me down a few months ago and i traced the fault to the black/ violet wire on ecu not triggering the fuel pump relay to run . apparently this is a fairly common fault . I studied the wiring diagram i have and decided to earth out this wire permantly to save getting the ECU repaired. The car runs perfect and i have just done a 500 mile round trip on holiday to weymouth then on to London .
  • Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 04 1.6 cooling fans 27 Jun 2008 (Forum)
Hi hope someone can help i purchased a 2004 53 plate focus 1.6 petrol yesterday from a car supermarket with 59k miles. This morning when i started up the cooling fans came on i checked to see if aircon was off and it was drove to work as normal temp gauge rose to half had heat in car after about 5 mins.Got to work about 10 mile journey and fans were still running left engine running after about 30seconds fans went off.Left engine running for about 5 mins temp gauge stayed half and fans never came on.Just popped out started up no fans got to destination 8 miles fans are running again this is after a 70mph run.On the way home the fans were on all the way and this time never switched off, when i parked up and left to idle.Is this normal on a focus or do i have a problem so i know when i take it back tomorrow
  • Peugeot 106 (1991 - 2002) - 2001 - 1100cc - very rough running in wet weather 10 Apr 2008 (Forum)
I've recently done the oil and filter and the cam-belt / tensioner / water pump. Air filter still need still be changed - am going to tap that out in a bit. It runs well most of the time but when the weather is very wet it runs very rough - kangaroos, sounds like it's missing etc. My initial thought was Distributor cap / HT leads but it's a distributor-less ignition system with a rail.
  • Audi 80 Mk II (1991-1995) - 2.0E 93L - Battery running flat 26 Jan 2008 (Forum)
All, PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN FIXED, I AM JUST OFFERING ADVICE Over the last few weeks I was waking up to a sluggish battery, and yesterday morning it wouldnt even start. After jumping it and running for an hour I noticed that the fan was on all the way. I then discoved that the fan had been running all night on several occasiions and had depelted my battery. Fault was the thermo-sensor which screws in to the radaitor and goes to the fan (something was telling the sensor that the temp was at 100 degress even tho engine was off!).
  • Air conditioning, could be better? 10 Jun 2007 (Forum)
Contrasted that is, with the household fridge which seems so similar. we have two fridges past down from owner to owner with the house and are running fine at 25 yrs old, running 24/7. Build quality or design? is there an argument, that air conditioning in cars is often not fit for purpose, due to the basic principle having proved so robust, but the actual application in a car often so fragile and troublesome?
  • Running two VAG diesels is uneconomic. 3 Jun 2007 (Forum)
I had a look at the new Fabia - which will do the job as would several other small hatchbacks - until you work out the cost of cambelts. Running 2 VAG PD diesels will cost about £200 pa in belt changes alone as each car would need a belt every 4 years under my operating regime. The Superb is here to stay (towing, legroom etc) but it seems running another VAG diesel alongside it would be stupid.
  • Fiat punto running roughly. 6 Dec 2006 (Forum)
Tonight my daughters "P" reg Punto suddenly started to run very roughly, idling badly with no power when driving. I thought it may be coils, plugs or HT leads, but all plugs are sparking, and on removing the HT leads on the coil one at a time, (and then putting them back) all drop the revs and one lead off at a time will stall the car, suggesting to me that the sparks are there with the engine running.
  • Diesel value with short trips ? 13 Feb 2003 (Forum)
Firstly, I am considering changing to a diesel but a friend who was in the motor business for over 40 years has made me think again due to the mileage and the pattern of my driving. I currently drive a Merc. 320 Estate petrol. Due to retire soon and need a car cheaper to run as I will be paying the bills - hence the diesel. I will cover 6,000 to 7,000 miles a year, about 60/70% of the mileage will be on short runs of a few miles and my mate reckons that I will not get the economy due to the volume of these short runs.
  • 4X4 that runs on both Petrol and Diesel 22 Mar 2002 (Forum)
Replying to Steve Boreham's post earlier this morning regarding exporting 4X4 to Sri Lanka, I remembered an incident from my youth; Colombo, early '80s; A friend of the family came to visit and knowing both my father and I were motoring enthusiasts happened to mention whether we had seen the new 4X4 that had just been introduced that runs on both Petrol and Diesel? We both looked at each other in puzzlement; I remember debating with him the possibilities of running an engine "dual-fuel". The discussion went on and on until we were thoroughly perplexed at how any manufacturer could achieve this without actually using 2 separate engines or changing the properties of the fuel itself.
