    Eco-conscious drivers thinking of buying a new car could be tempted by the new Volvo C30 1.6D DRIVe. The latest offering from the Swedish manufacturer has seen off stiff competition to scoop this year's Green Car of the Year award, as voted for by TheGreenCareWebsite.co.uk. The judging panel were particularly impressed by the C30's fuel efficiency, with its rate of emissions of 99 grams of carbon dioxide per kilometre helping it to come above the Toyota Prius in the green motoring league.

    The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) today issued a consultation paper on the proposed fee structure for driving licensing transactions in Great Britain for 2009/10. Anyone wishing to comment on the proposed revised fees must do so by 23 January 2009. The consultation paper is available on its website at www.dvla.gov.uk/consultations Chief Executive Noel Shanahan, said: “DVLA provides a wide range of key services to about 40 million people across the UK.
  • No C-Charge for LOW CO2 Citroëns 15 Feb 2008 (News)
    With the Mayor of London, Ken Livingstone, giving the green light to Band A and B vehicles emitting 120g/km or less of CO2 to drive for free in the Capital’s Congestion Charge zone, Citroën is able to offer 23 exemption qualifying models. Amongst those eligible is Citroën’s C1, a compact and nippy city car capable of an economical 69mpg* and emissions of just 109g/km.
  • Peugeot 1.4HDI Diesel Now On Sale 7 Dec 2001 (News)
    Peugeot has announced that its new 1.4 litre HDI engine (to be shared with Citroen and Ford) is now on sale with 70bhp in the 307 and will be available with 68bhp in the 206 from January. This new lightweight 98kg engine does not affect the handling of front-drive diesel cars to the extent of the older cast iron bock XUD engines. Fuel consumption on the combined drive cycle is 65.7 mpg for the 206 and 62.8 mpg for the 307. Carbon dioxide emissions levels for the 1.4 HDi 206 and 307 are the lowest in both vehicle ranges: 112 g/km and 120 g/km respectively.

    The system is “keyless”: a conventional car key is not necessary. DriveNow vehicles can be opened and closed with the unique programme in the chip on their driving licence and activated by pressing the start button.   Having completed an application under www.drive-now.com , it is then only necessary to carry out a one-off registration at a Sixt station in order to check driving license details and enter the chip onto the driving license.
