Pug 2008 1.2 EAT6 30 fuel consumption - Motorway versus country roads 6 Apr 2021 (Forum)
There are two computers. One I keep running indefinitely, restarting it every 5000 miles for a record of long term use, the other I use occasionally to measure individual journeys. Sixth gear is rarely engaged on our local single carriageway roads, as it is 30mph per 1000 revs, and tiny engines with few cylinders are not usually happy at low revs. -
BMW 2 Series Active Tourer - Hit & Run - Driver Found! 23 Nov 2020 (Forum)
My new parked car (BMW) that I have had since May 2020 was hit by a scaffold truck last Monday resulting in a damaged wing mirror (broken glass and cracked... -
Ford Focus 12reg Mk3 - Ecoboost 1.0 Engine issue 7 Sep 2020 (Forum)
I pulled over on to the sliproad's hard shoulder and stopped the car. The engine would still start and run but it sounded rough and had virtually no power. I called my recovery service and they took the car to my local garage. The mileage on the car is currently at around 48,000. Was a due a full service earlier this year but with the virus situation i'd put it off...Would welcome any advice. -
54 Focus 1.8i - What SUV to replace a great car to drive? 22 May 2017 (Forum)
Strangely the only one (so far) that both my wife, who is 8 ins shorter than me, and I have found really comfortable and easy to drive is the Evoque, but it is a lot more money and I am bothered about the width, and some of its blind spots, for daily running about. So my post is to try and find suggestions for any vehicles we have missed or useful tips anyone has. Thanks -
Vauxhall Astra F (1991 - 1998) - 1996 1.7 TD - Intermittent Starting Fault 4 Feb 2017 (Forum)
I have read elsewhere that this is actually a data line feeding a signal to a control unit actually on the fuel pump which in turn activates the immobiliser solenoid valve. I tried cutting the white/red wire with th engine running and the engine continued to run but wouldn't restart, this wire will now be rejoined. Does anybody have any ideas how to get past the immobiliser solenoid or is there something I'm overlooking? -
2006 Ford Focus 1.6 TDCI - Weird vibrating, flapping sound under acceleration 8 Sep 2016 (Forum)
The engine undershield and top cover are firmly attached, as is the wheel arch liner. There is no physical vibration from the car during the noise, and the running of the car is as it should be. I know of someone else who has the same car as me, and has had this noise going on for the last two years of owning it, but car still runs ok. We'd both like to get to the bottom of this noise and hoping someone out there can help us out. -
Peugeot expert Hdi 2002 - Peugeot expert fault, need an experts input ! 18 Jan 2016 (Forum)
Ok here goes, had this van for years, first got it it went like a rocket ship but not now, about 3 years ago van wouldn't start, Peugeot specialist diagnosed as ecu fault do replaced ecu and all was good, about a year later under hard load it would cut out, and illuminate elm light, restart after 5 seconds and run fine till the fault re occurred, this got more frequent until I was towing a car home and had to disconnect fuel rail sensor to get home, went to start van one day and it wouldn't start, looked on forum and tried double pin relay, connector was damaged so I wired up new relays and the van would run again, still in limp mode with fuel rail sensor disconnected, got a scrap car to swap bits over from and here's where I am now, Swapped injectors Swapped rail sensor Swapped for And it was still no better so I assumed the worst and changed high pressure pump, van started up and eml came straight on, yeah still in limp mode so I took it for a brief drive, cleared fuel rail pressure sensor fault and it wouldn't clear, turned van off to check fuel rail sensor wiring ( one pin earth, middle pin 9.3v with ignition on and other pin 4.98v, thought the 9.3 reading was strange so traced wiring to check for damage but seems ok, went to fire van back up and it won't start Fault codes p1135, p1517, p0234, p1100, p0380, p1138 all return after cranking and p0190 won't clear, please help -
Vauxhall Vivaro 1.9DI 52 - Vivaro trouble starting when hot 24 Oct 2015 (Forum)
Hi! I recently bought used Vivaro (52 plate) from a private seller. The Van runs smooth, no trouble starting from cold. Last week, I nipped out, and stopped at a local shop on the way home. The van wouldn't start - it was turning over, but not starting. The battery started to get low, and so I sent my partner home to get her car to charge the battery.. -
Completely undecided and confused from choice. 18 Oct 2015 (Forum)
I have had diesels before so am aware of the basics of running them with a big hard kicking on the motorway regularly. It would be nice to have something that can cope with the autobahn. There seems to be a lot of choice, but not a lot of choice if that makes any sense. -
Vauxhall Meriva - Dipstick showing 3/4 full when empty 2 Sep 2015 (Forum)
Any ideas about what caused the difference and what the proper way to check oil would be really helpful as I don't want to run the risk of running low again. SoozeC -
Honda Civic 1.5 Automatic VTEC hatchback, year 200 - Poor fuel economy 7 Jul 2015 (Forum)
They checked the emissions and found nothing untoward and there were no engine errors or warnings when they plugged in their computer. The car starts and runs fine, goes up hill without issue and there is no smoke from the car. I have checked for leaks but cant find anything. There has been no improvement in fuel consumption with this work done. -
Looking for no nonsense load swallower 18 Apr 2015 (Forum)
With kids getting bigger by the day, plus dog to accommodate (with more toys and kit than the kids), I am looking for a reasonably priced, reliable to run, vehicle that can swallow a large load. Looks aren't important. Whilst thos may sound like a dodgy personal ad, it is definitely a 'new' car I am looking for! I have had a Merc Vito and ideally would want to go a size down from this due to high running costs. -
Larger Estate - Another Petrol v Diesel question! - with specifics 9 Feb 2015 (Forum)
- My driving style is a mixture of conservative and occasionally liking to plant my right foot(if I'm without family or running late for work). I drive at 70-80 on the motorway. - I reckon I cover no more than 6000k miles a year. I'm not sure which fuel the distances I cover are best suited to. I have heard some Petrol, as they are relatively short distances, although I heave heard others say that the diesel engine will run better from cold. -
Renault Grand Scenic III 1.5 dci (106) 2010 - Renault Grand Scenic III 1.5 dci very poor MPG 24 Jan 2015 (Forum)
To get this result I'm already driving like pensioner;) - very smoth acceleration and gear change around 2000rpm. I must admit, that most of my rides are really short runs, about 4 miles distance from home to work in busy Edinburgh morning and evening peaks traffic. I know that my car runs pretty much on cold engine for most of the time and it's a lot of stop-start action (on average I do this 4 miles in 15-20mins), but should it make such a huge difference on MPG? -
X plate Citroen Saxo diesel - 2000 Saxo Diesel cold running 63000 miles 24 Jan 2015 (Forum)
I have a Saxo diesel 2000 X plate. Full history, regular oil/filter/fuel filterchanges. Recent glow plugs and 10,000 miles ago a cam belt and water pump... -
Vauxhall Corsa D '09 Life 1.0 L - Power steering and ABS failure 8 Jan 2015 (Forum)
Now pretty much every morning i have to leave the car running for 20-30 mins, and then restart the engine to clear the faults. Once the faults clear, power steering is fine. It seems like the colder the weather, the longer i have to run the engine before the faults clear. -
Mercedes W203 C220 Diesel - No throttle black smoke 7 Jan 2014 (Forum)
Is it worth changing the MAP sensor could that be faulty or is he sensor working fine because when plugging the make plug back in the car runs rough and refuses to rev thus could it be EGR ? -
Honda Accord 2.2 Diesel - Honda VSA Modulator Failure and other things..... 12 Dec 2013 (Forum)
I was quite happy like a lot of drivers running around in my Honda Accord Diesel (05 plate and 95,000 miles) with my VSA light on for the last 18 months knowing it won't effect the MOT and not paying Honda the £1,600 they wanted for this crappy part. -
Toyota RAV4 - Repair woes! 12 Jul 2013 (Forum)
It's been stripped, examined and rebuilt and is being kept for a little testing. now my question is, what damage could've conceivably been done running with no gasket, albeit for a limited time? We were looking at swapping it next year anyway, but now we're not sure. Assuming it's returned in good running order, does it seem reasonable to keep hold for another 8-12 months? -
Mazda Mazda 6 (2008 -) - 08 2.0d DPF problems 12 Feb 2013 (Forum)
It has done about 10,000 miles in that time, and in mid December the DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) light came on. I read the handbook which said it needed a long high speed run to clear the filter. In the 3 weeks since then it has covered over 600 miles on motorways on long runs and the light went out, which I assumed meant it had 'self-cleaned'. Yet on Sunday, the light suddenly came on but flashing and the 'check engine' light also came on, and the car had gone into 'limp mode' (which means I have no turbo) so it has gone to the garage, where they say it needs an oil change, filter change and the DPF system regenerated (at a cost of £250+).
