Audi A6 loss of power 10 Apr 2005 (Forum)
I have had my a6 for 18mnths with no problems but recently when on motorways etc at around 70mph there is a distinct loss of power and pulling and it feels like the engine is missing. I have been to a independent Audi garage and they have run a diag' and no faults have come up. They suggest the problem could be the air mass sensor but they are not sure. They also told me to check that the turbo was working. They suggested that i remove the hose from the front of the turbo and spin the shaft to determine seizure or not.It looks like a fiddly job to me. -
2001 Mondeo 115 Tddi turbo surge 15 Mar 2005 (Forum)
I've been running my Mondeo for nearly a year now covering some 20k miles. On odd occasions during acceleration the turbo becomes what might be described as 'lumpy'. It feels like the effect of a 'kick-down' on an automatic and the engine gives out a throaty noise, it will then clear itself to give a smooth acceleration and then go through the same motions again until changing up a gear. -
Clio Electric Windows 31 Jan 2005 (Forum)
Electric window drivers side has had a small piece of plastic which can only be described as a runner for the cable to run through. This piece of plastic snapped ( well the corner anyway ) and I have been advised by Renault dealer that I need to purchase a whole new regulator unit costing £156 + VAT. All for the sake of a 3 pence piece of plastic. -
Fiesta 2004 1.4 Coolant level 16 Jan 2005 (Forum)
My 2004 fiesta has done 7000 miles, and when doing the routine checks i noted that the oil and coolant level were approaching min. I can understand oil levels going down on a new car since it is being run in, and hence i have topped this up. But a low coolant level concerns me slightly. Should i take the car back to ford to have the system pressure checked for leaks, or is it normal for a car to use some coolant (none of my last cars have ever had a drop in coolant level which is why i am asking). -
SORN cannot be backdated? 15 Dec 2004 (Forum)
Its old SORN now lapses, and I must re-declare SORN myself. But ?SORN applications cannot be backdated?, and apparently can run from the first of a month only. So what happens about the 2-3 week gap before my new SORN starts? -
Citroen Picasso Diesel Overheating 6 Nov 2004 (Forum)
Hi my picasso has no internal heat ....the matrix is cold, when the engine has been running for 15 mins i get the radiator cooling fans come on with two blips on the temp display gauge and then 2 mins later the dashbord display tells me to switch off because the engine is overtemp when all blips on the gauge are lit...at this point the top hose to the rad is solid and hot but the bottom is cold... -
Peugeot / Citroen HPi (petrol) 28 Oct 2004 (Forum)
My 30 mths old 406 is fitted with this (2.0L petrol, low emissions) engine but it hasn't run properly all this year. The dealer says there's a problem with the unit that advances the valve timing (apparently it has VVT just like the Honda's). They change the unit but within a few wks it plays up again - misfire/hesitation under load. -
Vectra engine cuts out at traffic lights 7 Oct 2004 (Forum)
However, it still does appear at the most inoportune times, but not as often and although HJ sugested fitting new HT leads, this had already been done. Apart from this car runs very well indeed. Has anyone any suggestions ? Regards Derek -
Golf GTi Mk2,ignition problem! 22 Aug 2004 (Forum)
I have a 1990 8v GTi and there's an intermittent fault with the ignition.Every so often when you try to start the car there will be no power getting to the coil,if you feed a live straight from the battery to the coil the car starts up fine then after running for brief period you remove the wire and the car works fine for a while, then without warning, you come to start it again another time and it just sits there turning over but no life at the coil again. -
First car for 17 year old 26 Jul 2004 (Forum)
Having done a search on this site with no useful results, perhaps I could have some advice please! Above all else, the car must be as safe as possible - image is irrelevant. Cheapness to run, partucarly wrt insurance, and reliability is important. My budget would be no more than £1500 assuming that I sell one of my beloved Saabs. I have my own thoughts, but perhaps the serried ranks of wise backroomers can confirm them? -
Xantia Rear Brake Change 13 Jul 2004 (Forum)
Hi I have a 95 1.8 SXI xantia 8v it needs new discs soon which i have contemplated doing myself but there is one problem from what i can see i have to take the caliper apart to remove the rear disc which in turn will mean bleeding it "but this is just a guess" can anyone tell me the procedure for replacing the discs does the car have to be set to highest suspension level as i wondered whether this would be wise due to the pressur in the pipes or does this not affect the braking system even thoug they are all run on the same hydraulic system, any help will be much appreciated. -
Frugal MPV 20 Jun 2004 (Forum)
42 mpg for a great big 7 seater with pretty good performance seems truly outstanding to me. I really do enjoy depriving the motorist's friend Gordon Brown of all that money now I no longer run a petrol car :) -
Vectra Advice 9 May 2004 (Forum)
I won\'t save much in fuel costs as my annual mileage is only around 8k made up of a daily commute and the odd longer run at weekends. -
What would you do? 2 Apr 2004 (Forum)
But only when I called them did they let me know, 3 days after the accident. In the first story a lorry had run into the back of it. In the second a member of staff had driven it into a pillar. I was willing to pay £120 over the lowest quote because I reckoned they'd be good, God help me. But when I asked if they'd make a damage report or insurance claim available I was told 'No'. -
Any Citreon AX experts please-part ID? 14 Mar 2004 (Forum)
My next door neighbour has had a long running intermittent problem starting his AX. Today he had a \'tune up man\' out who has diagnosed and fixed the problem. The bit that he has replaced is similar to a HT lead but it has a reddy/brown electrical connector one end and a diffrent type of connector at the other end. -

Alcohol fuelled internal combustion engi 26 Feb 2004 (Forum)
I am in the process of rebuilding a 100 year old stationary (car link - M25 this morning at J23!) engine which I was originally designed to run on alcohol. I can find a google of sites extolling virtues of ethanol or methanol mixes for car engines but no references on use of pure e or m as a single fuel. Any advice on merits of either gratefully received. -
Lexus - am I mad? 25 Feb 2004 (Forum)
I've noticed that 5-7yr old Lexus LS400 prices are getting down towards my range, and I've begun to wonder whether I should consider one. Does anyone have any experience of running one? Are they as phenomenally reliable as they are made out to be? And what kind of real-world fuel economy can I expect? Can my local garage service one? Or should I just go for another Omega? -
Fiesta 1.3 and ECU 20 Feb 2004 (Forum)
Hi, I have a friend who has a 1997 P reg fiesta 1.3 with a 'DuraE' engine. His problem is that the engine will run erratically when idling for most of the time, but is fine when driving normally. He took it to a few places and they all said the ECU was wrecked and he should get shut. Unfortunately he cant really afford a new car, but I suggested he may be able to "swap" the ECU with an identical one from a similar "scrapped" car. -
Can this be justice? 5 Feb 2004 (Forum)
I have just heard that the hit and run driver responsible for killing 9 year old Callum Oakford has been sentenced to just 2 years in prison. The driver, with no licence, insurance etc. was given: 16 months for having a false passport; 4 months for having no licence/insurance and 4 months for failing to stop.
