  • 2001 BMW318 Ci Regulating system fail for ABS, CBC, ASC+T/DSC 3 Sep 2010 (Forum)
I have never carried out any repairs on this car before so would I need to get some software / connection cables to to first interrogate the engine's computer system using a laptop ? Strangely, the energy control pointer which shows momentary fuel consumption also failed to work this morning. I'm not a mechanic but I have done some maintenance on my motor bike in the past :-) Regards, P Foley
  • Peugeot 306 1.9 D Turbo - 306 1.9 Diesel Turbo - Priming pump 14 Aug 2010 (Forum)
I don't normally try my hand at much beyond routine servicing (though at 212,000 miles I must be doing something right!) so I'm not keen on re-arranging fuel lines to accommodate this pump unless the problem worsens.  Has anyone replaced one of these pumps, and if so, do you have any advice?
  • If you have a technical question.... 31 Jul 2010 (Forum)
I have owned this Mazda Tamura from new since Feb 2010 and I have done around 3500 miles. I struggle to get any more than 36 litres in the tank and as a result my fuel efficiency is not that good. I am lucky to see 300 miles from what my gauge says a full tank. I am conscious of making sure the air con does remains off, and to ensure the boot is empty.   I feel that I am a fairly decent driver so I am frustrated at the cars performance.
  • Mondeo TDCI 130 - Mondeo TDCI 130 (53) Problem 4 Jun 2010 (Forum)
I have no lights on the dashboard and it's chucking out lots of black smoke. Thick black smoke. I was advised to use a fuel treatment, which I have done twice. This has made no difference at all.  No lights are coming up on the dashboard at all and the car is driveable, just very slow in getting anywhere. No acceleration at all.
  • Citroen Berlingo Multispace - Thinking of trading 2003 petrol Berlingo 4 diesel 27 May 2010 (Forum)
In terms of performance and economy. For some reason "Whatcar" recommend the 1.6 and advise against the 2.0. Is the fuel economy anywhere as good as the published figures?  Up to 60mpg for the 1.6. We usually get just over 40mpg from our 1.6 petrol on long trips, which isn't great. I used to have a BMW 525i which regularly gave 35mpg.
  • Citroen Relay (04) HDI - Citroen Relay van power loss/diesel leak 5 May 2010 (Forum)
In neutral, with foot flat it doesn't get past 3000ish and has a muted stuttering sound. Sounds like some kind of starvation? fuel/air? Can hear turbo whistle, so assume it's fine? Please help - need van for work and dealer here is useless! Thanks, mark
  • Skoda Yeti SUV - 2004 Xtrail replacement 11 Apr 2010 (Forum)
Has anyone been able to compare the 140 and 170 engines.  How do they get so much more out of the same lump with no fuel penalty?  Is it worth the extra?  Why is the insurance grouping so low? Reccommendations Xtrail / Yeti?
  • Banks, damn banks & statistics..... 17 Mar 2010 (Forum)
As per a previous post of mine regarding hire car charges, I've been "done" again! Picked a car up at Dublin Airport last week and had to pay a €72 deposit for the fuel. I asked to pay in Sterling (on my CC) so i could get the same Sterling refund when I brought the car back fully fuelled........"no problem sir". Car has to be returned to the compound, (not the desk in the terminal where it was booked-out).........."
  • V12 engines - beyond the common motorist? 30 Jan 2010 (Forum)
Most retrospective reviews on V12 engines of earlier decades state they are wonderfully smooth, powerful, adrenalin-producing (insert your own cliché) but then add that they are horrendously expensive to maintain and give the general impression that they suddenly become hugely temperamental and unaffordable after very few years. Leaving fuel costs aside because no one expects a V12 to sip petrol, are the Mercedes/BMW/Jaguar V12s really so much more expensive to run at 10-15 years or more old than a big European or Japanese V8 of the same vintage?
  • Citroen Saxo (1997 - 2003) - 99 1.0 Engine Hesitation 27 Jan 2010 (Forum)

  • BMW 7-Series E65/E66 (2002 - 2009) - BMW 2004 Diesels 8 Jan 2010 (Forum)
I'm going to buy a newer version of my car but i'm considering switching to diesel because of the numbers: 0-60 time, torque and of course fuel economy are all in the diesel version's favour, only the BHP value and top end speed (which i'd never get even close to!) is in the petrol's favour by a tiny margin. Does anyone have experience of the BMW 3 litre diesel M57TUD30 engine circa 2004?
  • Vauxhall Astra H (2004 - 2009) - 05 1.6 warning light and radio code problem 5 Dec 2009 (Forum)
Hey all, Vauxhall Astra 1.6 design hatchback - error code P0115 - Thermostat engine fuel tank Friend had some work done at a local garage, but when they got the car back the error light was still illuminated. • Vauxhall Astra F (1991 - 1998) - 96 1.6 Temperature not right 10 Nov 2009 (Forum)
I initially though the temp was low because the radiator fan switch was broke and the fan was on all the time, but tested it with the fan unplugged and it still hardly flickered, and now have a new fan switch. The fuel gauge works fine, as does everything else on the instrument panel (just to rule that out). Does anyone have any ideas what this could be? Always grateful Minsk
  • Rover 400 (1995 - 1999) - 99 1.6 K series bad idle after headgasket 1 Nov 2009 (Forum)

I have used a fault code reader these codes have come up has any one got an idea as to what it might be; 16514 O2 Sensor Circ.,Bank1-Sensor1 Malfunction 16556 Fuel Trim,Bank1 System too Rich 16785 Exhaust Gas Recirc.Flow Insufficient Detected 17811 EGR Flow Deviation 17925 Main Relay Circ. Electrical Malfunction I've had two suggestions from mechanically minded mates they reckon it's either my "Lambda Sensor" or the "Throttle Body".
  • Peugeot 406 (1996 - 1998) - 98 1.8 Takes 8-10 turns of key to start in morning 30 Aug 2009 (Forum)
If I leave it for 4 hours it takes about 3 turns of the key to start. Overnight 8-10 turns. It's as if the fuel isn't getting into the engine When I try to start it and I put my foot on the accelerator, this doesn't help either. In fact putting the foot on the accelerator feels as if it extinguishes the starting process.
  • Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 96 1760 Auto will not start 28 Aug 2009 (Forum)
Clues, new starter fitted due naff battery with loose connections by previous owner. New battery fitted. No spark Code inserted, red light on steering wheel spoke goes out, fuel pump whizzes for a second. Red light on key pad stays red and green indicates when keys pressed then stays off. Only one red light on dash flashes on radio. Have found alarm button in front of ignition key and reset.
  • Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 00 1.8 TDDi Non Starter 17 Aug 2009 (Forum)
Belt came loose on the motorway :( The AA towed it to another (more reliable) friends garage, and he has stripped the head and replaced the 8 valves but now it will not start. He has replaced the fuel filter and pipes but still no joy. It would appear that the glow plugs were damaged and they have been replaced as well. The car will start on easy-start and will tow off as well, however emitting white/gray smoke after towing.
  • Peugeot 205 (1983 - 1997) - 91 1.6 205 Running Rich (Help) 26 Jul 2009 (Forum)
Hi everyone, My 205 XL AUTO on a H reg. (1991) is running very rich... ??? I'm going to give it a new air, oil and fuel filter, oil change, and new spark plugs but that's about the extent of my knowledge and capability lol when it comes to my pug's running. It has a manual choke, and I have a Haynes manual on its way too but in the mean time is there anything i can do to stop it running so rich?
  • Vauxhall Zafira B (2005 - ) - 06 2.2 petrol direct - starting problems 14 Jul 2009 (Forum)
I don't think this is linked to the starting problem (expansion tank sensor issue?) but you never know... I don't think the stalling is the well known fuel pump/regulator issues, as it never (yet) stalls on the move, only when starting. I'm scratching my head on this one, so any help is much appreciated! :)
