Bought a Nissan Juke Tekna last August - ex Motability car - 3 years old, full service history.  Have had it serviced and MOT at Nissan main dealer in February.  Last Thursday, radio blacked out at the beginning of a journey so had to complete with no satnav or radio.
  • Jaguar XF 3.0 S X250 - Changing Battery X250 2015 XF & Avoiding Issues 16 Dec 2022 (Forum)
I understand the logic in keeping the power supply going whilst changing the battery with a OBDll battery saver but this type of work is not exactly my forte so would I be better taking the car to a Jaguar specialist? I'd greatly appreciate any advice from someone who has successfully changed the battery on their facelift X250 XF. The car still has it's original JLR 7 year old battery.

  • Peugeot 508 - Can't take the gearbox in the 508 e-hdi anymore. 23 Feb 2020 (Forum)
Dropping the clutch too much in sport mode pulling out of a junction so the esp comes on and the car drops all power for a split second. Can't afford a new car and this car would be alright except for that gearbox. Already been at garage for a gearbox reset/upgrade, didn't make a bit of difference.
  • Ford S-MAX - Child Observation Mirror 8 May 2019 (Forum)
When on our test drive I was sat in the back whilst my husband drove and I asked the sales guy about the mirror as I use it all the time in my old car and he showed me the sunglasses holder and said it didn't have a mirror as it was an option for one or the other when ordering which I thought was stange. By the time it was my turn in the front it had slipped my mind to check properly.
  • Hyundai Tucson 2.0 Diesel - Advice used cars: 2 more years or double mileage? 7 Apr 2019 (Forum)
I plan to upgrade my old 14 y.o. Citroen C3 for a car slightly bigger and more reliable and I've found two Hyundai Tucson for what it seems a good price.  Both are "Hyundai Tucson 2.0L CRTD CDX", both have had two previous owners, booth look in quite good conservation and both prices are around £2500, their main differences are: 1) 115.000 mi and 12 years (2007) 2) 65.000 mi and 14 years (2005) The next week I will test them, but assuming that they "feel" similar, what is your advice?
  • Used Hyundai ix20 - dealer or franchise? 9 Sep 2018 (Forum)
My S-i-L wants me to help her find a new car.  She currently drives our old Renault Modus and after seeking advice on here and elsewhere the consensus is the ix20 should be ideal.  She is going to her local dealer tomorrow for a test drive to be sure it ticks all the boxes (high driving position, good boot space and capable of seating 4).
  • Any - Smeary Windscreens - Lets Make Em History 6 Oct 2017 (Forum)
We have 2 cars, a newish Ford Focus and a 3 year old A4.  Both cars are well cared for but even though only the Audi does a lot of motorway miles, both have perenially smeary windscreens. I have tried everything I know to cure this as follows :- Thorughly cleaning screen with pressure washer detergent or special extra strong glass cleaner, then rubbing the widscreen dry with screwed up newspaper or kitchen roll.
  • Ford Focus - Snapped auxiliary belt 6 Jan 2017 (Forum)
The engineer at Ford said that he had never seen a belt tear like it had. Ford won't compensate me at all said the car is outside of warranty (5 years old) and said that the 100000 mile is a guide and they can snap at any time.  So I was wondering if anyone had a thoughts about what I should do next? Should I leave it and just put it down to bad luck?

  • That is the question.... - So the kids have left home......... 23 Jul 2016 (Forum)
The kids have all but left home. The trusty old Toyota Avensis verso has killed it's water pump and drive belt plus maybe a few other things. even if it gets fixed it's going as we don't need a seven seater junk carrier. The wife has said now you can buy a car you want...but it has to have 4 doors.
  • Smart headlight 8 Jan 2016 (Forum)
Where there is no GPS signal the system can track road marking and read traffic signs.  Perhaps this is for the future driverless cars.  If not, I can imagine many young drivers coming to rely on their ‘automatic’ headlights and the resultant accidents. But, why does a driverless car need headlights at all ?
  • Changing vehicle 1 Feb 2015 (Forum)
A couple of years ago I sold my large motorhome and car and bought a VW T5 campervan as my sole vehicle. Now, at a rather ripe old age, I am selling the campervan, giving up camping and moving on to other holiday such a cruising.

  • Honda Jazz - Honda Jazz 1.2 (Manual) Gear Problems 26 Feb 2013 (Forum)
Hi, The car is just over 3 years old and run about 20000 miles, I had it for about 11 months. I noticed a few problems: 1. Sometimes, the reverse gear won't go in, have to depressing the clutch again for it to go in, but it doesn't happen all the time.
  • Nissan Almera 2002 - Halfords broke my knob 6 Nov 2012 (Forum)
Given that its a 10 year old car,  is it likely to have been something they did, and can fix, or just tough luck? A loose wire than can be reconnected? All the other lights and their knobs next to it are fine. It feels a bit pedantic going back just for this but I do need to change the blower settings at night and this is suddenly a lot harder than it used to be as I cant even see where the dial is.
  • Insuring a second car - Positive result 21 Jun 2012 (Forum)
My father has been advisd not to drive any more, as his car is 11 years old with very low mileage, we have decided to sign it over to me to use and to run Mum & Dad round as required.  As his insurance was expiring today, it was all a bit rushed, I could have SORN'd it for him, but would have had to claim the outstanding RFL back (I think!).
