  I tried to look to see if the oil filter had been changed but it is berried deep in the bowels of the engine compartment. I really hope I am wrong

  Help. I have a 97 VW passat 1.8T 20V Estate, 3 months ago the red oil light kept coming on intermitently but more and more frequent,(every 10 minutes), so took it to VAG who did a full service and changed the cambelt as I requested but couldn't find a problem with the oil pump/oil light, 3,000 miles/3 months later the same problem has started again, oil level is OK, 82,000 miles on the clock.

  Changed my oil today, and it made me wonder whether I could get the oil cheaper. Although I have a small fleet of vehicles (well, three) they all use different oil so I can't really buy in great bulk. So does anyone know what chains sell cheap oil to the public?

  I found dozens of unused Fram oil filters (PH9B) in the original box stored in a garage for 30 years plus. They are the cannister (easy change) type Would they still be good still to use or best discarded?

  Wish to do an annual oil / filter change after 12 months which is not 'required' according to the service schedule for multiair engines. Filter appears top left of engine block viewed from front of car but is of unusual appearance[to me] and if removed likely to waste oil all over the place.

  I'm intending to do an oil and filter change on my C2 which I haven't done before but the oil filter arrangement is not one i've come across before. I would be grateful if anyone has any info. or tips on doing this job as I don't want to make a mess of it!

  im due an engine oil change very soon, is comma lite semi synth any good or can any one recommend a suitable alternative , the service manual suggests sae 5w-30 or 10w-30 but the oil guide in halfords recommends 10w-40 ?

  SWMBO,has a 97 Micra 1.3SR,and I have just done the engine oil and filter on it last week,however,as it's got 68k on the clock,and probably hasn't had a gearbox oil replacement,I thought it may be time to change it. Does anyone have a picture of the point of draining,and the re-filling point?

  Anyone know for sure? Some say its semi some not. The reason I ask is that I have oil changes at Rapid Fit between services and they use Castrol Semi Magnatec 5/30. Then at the dealer they use Ford (assume so) branded oil. Prolly same stuff but unsure. Cheers all. James

  I have just aquired a Ford Escort 1.8 Diesel (non turbo) and would like to know what additives I can add to the oil (ie) Slick 50 or magnatec , on its next oil change, to help protect the engine from premeture wear etc. Do these additives really work, or are they a ploy for spending your hard earned cash ??

  Since buying may car at 10k - one year old.  I had a VW serive package (waste of money).  I had persisted on an intermediate oil change between VW long life service.  On average its had oil change every 6K with oil to VW spec (Quantum 5w30).  I get at trade price so it works out at £18 per bottle  (5l). My attention is know towards the colloing system since it has the same anti freeze mix since new, should I get it changed (mileage 68K). or wait for the cambelt water pump change at circa 85k.

  The engine managment light comes on almost immediately after 2nd gear. It struggles going up a hill big time. A little bit of history....The oil light came on a few months ago and it resulted in a new oil switch, which was duly repaired. An oil change and filter was done at the same time. Since then, this problem has arisen. The mechanic has insisted the correct oil was used and even flushed the engine out and replaced the oil again.

  I like to change the oil by myself on our Rover 45 TD. After a visit to a local garage found out that they didn't change the filter as promised, after a bit of argument they admited that the spotty lad on the weekend probably forgot to 'finalize' the procedure. ahee??

      Checked a few times and had to up slightly   Unrelated, the car then had a new clutch and new wet belt along with oil and filter change.   I checked the oil weekly and it stayed at the correct level until this week when the wife said the Engine felt strained so I checked the oil which showed nothing on the dipstick so I topped up with nearly 2 litres of oil, checked for leaks and took back to the Garage who of course didn't really want to check and said it will just be burning oil.

  A friend's Ford Mondeo has served him well for 19 years and is now 22 years old. Recently the grarchsnges have become worrying erratic changing both up and down prematurely. I suggested changing the oil and filter in the autobox but he says it is sealed for life. I am dubious that life meant much over 10 years old and 100k! Do you think the oil and filter change are worth trying in case it is now s sludge box rather than a slush box?
