• Peugeot 106 (1991 - 2002) - 96 1.5 Has the head gasket gone 10 May 2009 (Forum)
  No emulsion in the coolant so it looks as though it's not getting into the cylinders. Engine starts instantly as well and no smoke. Still getting 55-60mgp on a run. Is there anything else it could be?

  hi all and thanks in advance for any replys, my cars starts and runs at idle but when taken down the road bout 100 meters the engine light comes on and goes into limp mode it also cut out today and had to switch off take key out and back in b4 starts again. the only code that keeps reapearing is p1112 its been cleared 3 or 4 times but go down the rd and light on and same code again. also the fuel pressure is 321 bar. any help v much appreceated.

  hi , can anyone help. my 2002 mondeo 2.0l lx tdci has started to judder. mainly in fourht and fith gear. i have changed the fuel filter as i though that may be the problem since it hasnt been changed for ages but the problem still goes on. starts fine runs ok in slow speeds but uphill it splutters a little and the acceleration seems to be poor. no warning lights are coming on. recently i had to refit my back box with a clamp as it fell off wondering if this is causing problem. c

  Anyway, can't find much feedback, regarding the 1.3 diesel Astras, which are now sneaking into auction. They're not exactly bargains, but supposedly verrrrry low running costs, make them appealing. Has anyone any ownership comments. Or even just driving experience. It does, on the face of it seem a small engine - which apparently can be re-mapped - when they also offer 1.9 variants.

  Or is it a sealed unit and requires a whole new part? The lens probably was hit and cracked by a flying stone during a recent motorway run but hey these things happen. The CRV manual only refers to changing of a fog light bulb and even that looks complicated. Might have to bite the bullet and get done by a main dealer or a back street place.

  I took my Egr valve of to clean last night and was totally amazed at the amount of crud that had built up it had probably reduced the diameter by a third after intensive cleaning I replaced it and blocked of the vacuum pipe so that it now only runs on clean air, what a difference it has made may I suggest that anybody with a Mondeo or Jaguar diesel does the same before it totals their engine. Its hard to imagine that contaminated air being forced into the inlet manifold the damage it must cause over time does not bear thinking about.

  The heater on my 1998 Renault Scenic 1.9 DTi diesel (with aircon) has never been very good in my 6 months of ownership, but this cold weather really shows up the problem. The heater matrix is not leaking, the coolant level is constant but even on a long run in this freezing weather the heat output is only luke warm, moving the heater control from hot to cold does make the output colder but on max heat it is pathetic. Any ideas waht the problem could be??

  Hi there, my passenger-side rear cluster go all 'disco' when the lights are on and the brake pedal is pushed. Gotta be a dodgey earth, i cud just run a wire from the earth at the back of the cluster to a new earth point but would prefer to check out the current one Problem - where is it? Got a haynes manual which says it's E6 or summink onthe wiring diagrams but doesn't say where on the car this is Any ideas Guys?

  Had a problem with my Espace, which the garage said was due a spark plug blowing out. Invoice as follows: "Investigate noisy running fault. Replace spark plugs. Labour: 1 hour @ £45 Set of plugs: £9.40 Fuel line cleaner: £9.60 Total: £64 + vat" My question - is "fuel line cleaner" a legtimate cost??? I didn't ask for it, in fact garage did all work without quoting or getting the go ahead from me.

  Hi, just looking at buying a high mileage (over 100k) T Sport VVTL-i 2002 (think it's just pre-facelift, UK car). It runs well, checks out OK, etc but when it hits 7000rpm it misses .. I know these are supposed to take-off at 6000rpm and rev right into the red. I don't believe it has been serviced for about 10,000 miles, so it could be something simple but any thoughts/experience anyone?
• Renault Modus (2004 - ) - 04 1.5 Environment filter 12 Nov 2008 (Forum)
  My wife has a Modus and the day after getting an MOT teh engine management system light came on and we have established its something to do with an environment filter. The car runs fine but a local mechanic (not authorised Renault dealership) has told us it needs a new filter that will cost £169. The car is 4 years old and has done about 60k miles. It the DCi diesel model. Has anyone else had this problem and does £169 seem reasonable if you have had one replaced?

  It's a 310 panel van converted to a 13 seat crewbus. It's legal until next Friday, so I was planning to run it to a scrapyard. Trouble is, I've no idea what scrap values are and don't want to get conned. Anybody here able to give me a rough estimate or make a suggestion as how to get more for it? Thanks guys!

  I bought a mondeo yesterday drove it home fine.. got in it today and it stopped run out of diesel on the way to the garage, shoved a gallon in and it started after a cloud of smoke.. drove it to the garage put fuel in it, on the way home it stopped and now wont pick up? accelerate?

  I can't see how the battery is meant to come out of the compartment that it is in, all I can see are two options, bend / remove the trim from the bottom of the window ( not sure how) , or force off the rubber trim that runs along the fire wall, not sure this is suppose to happen either ? There must be an easier way. Can you help?

  hi just purchased a corsa 1.4 merit automatic for about a month it's been great no problems noticed a small amount of liquid under the front bumper did'nt take much notice was using the car all day no problems parked up tonight looke around smoke was coming out of the bonnet and a dirty brown liquid was coming from under the car the coolant tank is empty and the water is running straight thought checked oil that's fine not sure could this be the inlet manifold or something else plus any idea how much this is going to cost thanks

  My question is if i take out 6 months car tax now, will i be able to tax my car for 12 months on the current charges in 6 month time. I?m not sure when the changes would be. So am i basically better of in the long run to have 6 months tax or should i just take 12 months now? Hope that makes sense :)

  The water level was down and so I topped up and noticed water steadily dripping from somewhere around the thermostat housing. I drove home, topped up slightly again but this time no leak! I left it running but still no leak even when the engine turned off. Any ideas? Cheers,

  I am considering buying a high mileage (110k+) 1.9 TDI A4 MY 2004 on an 04 plate with a view to covering up to 30k miles per year for 2 years. Does anyone have any experience of running these cars up towards 200k miles and what to look out for at purchase beyond a history of correct servicing. Quite a few cars i'm looking at appear to have been on variable servicing. Would this significantly affect the life of turbo's for example.

  Is it possible that the process of replacing and removing the dipstick causes it to pick up oil from somewhere other than the sump and create a false reading? Which reading should I trust? And if I am running the engine with too much oil is that risky? Ta, Nick. {typo in header corrected}

  possible a idle controll valve but whats throwing me off is it seems to improve when the engine warms up. Any ideas cheers. One more thing ive only cold air inside the car when the engine is running at normal temp the water is circulating through the heater matrix as both pipe are hot, would this be most likely to be the control switch on the dash?
