I am considering buying a high mileage (110k+) 1.9 TDI A4 MY 2004 on an 04 plate with a view to covering up to 30k miles per year for 2 years.
Does anyone have any experience of running these cars up towards 200k miles and what to look out for at purchase beyond a history of correct servicing. Quite a few cars i'm looking at appear to have been on variable servicing. Would this significantly affect the life of turbo's for example.
Any views info gratefully received.

The official taxi fleet at Stansted Airport have ran Galaxy/Sharans for some time, starting with the TDi90 years back and into the 130 you're looking at. 250k was common, few problems apparently. I've seen other users on here talking of 400k having been seen. My old Tdi90 has 100k and doesn't feel in the slightest bit different from new. I would think a car that's been on the go all time would actually be better. I can't see 110k being an issue at all.

I seem to be harping on about these engines all the time at the minute.
I have a 2004 Golf 150bhp PD, bought last year with 107K on the clock (ex Leaseplan car, complete with service history), now on 145K. Only issues have been boost pipe split, and tyres and brakes. It needs new rear shocks, but thats only about £130 fitted, and it will probably be another year before they get fitted.
In terms of problems - cambelt needs to be looked after (and waterpump), oil used needs to be correct spec (there is a seperate long life spec).
Is this car an ex Fleet car? If so, there should be a printout of all the items attended to during its life - this is always useful if there is a value attached, you can see if its had any major problems!
Buy it, 110K is just about run in...

check also all the front suspension arms - there are loads of them and they all go. Don't bother with cheapo replacements.
The two at the top and the pinch bolt can be a pain to replace.

Thanks all for your views and advice. Billy
