Hi, just looking at buying a high mileage (over 100k) T Sport VVTL-i 2002 (think it's just pre-facelift, UK car). It runs well, checks out OK, etc but when it hits 7000rpm it misses .. I know these are supposed to take-off at 6000rpm and rev right into the red.
I don't believe it has been serviced for about 10,000 miles, so it could be something simple but any thoughts/experience anyone?
Cheers

I have a Honda Civic with a 1.8 vti, with a rev limit of 8200. Takes off over 6000 rpm. However when I first took it over (40k miles) it was reluctant to rev. Over the next week it got better, but I noticed the crud and grey smoke coming from the back when revved. I regularly use it through the rev range and it is as sweet as a nut, serviced every 10k miles. If partner uses it for a week or so, no way does she take it to such high revs, and it feels flat for a while when I get it back. My thoughts would be give it a good service, choose plugs with care and the right oil, and over a few hundred miles start increasing the revs. Clear its throat out a few times.

Thanks Woodspeed, you could well be right. It sounded fine below that speed, somebody else said that the engine might not have been properly warm (left it ticking over for 5-10 mins before test drive), but I could not take the car far. Definitely the first thing to try and definitely change the plugs, oil, filter, etc.
Always difficult when you're looking at something with a view to buy, if it's something as simple as this - great. I thought I would post something, in case someone said 'oh yeh, that means xxx is going which costs 3K to repair'!
Many thanks for your help.
