  • Ford Focus 2004 - Temp gauge issue !!! 8 Mar 2012 (Forum)
Car starts and runs fine temperature gauge moves up to correct central position then whilst driving it drops back down to cold, few minutes later back up to the centre ?? It doesnt overheat or affect driving at all so i figured maybe its the coolant temperature sensor which is dodgy, so i asked my mechanic to test it and fit a new one if needed, only for him to tell me that there isnt one ???
  • Peugot Expert TD 1.9 - Peugot Expert TD 1.9 - Not starting well 22 Feb 2012 (Forum)
My question is what could cause the van to take ages to start? It has new glow plugs so i have ruled that out, it also drives fine when it has started, either by the starter motor or jump start. I have read about the fuel solenoid amongst other things, but would this be a possible cause if the van drives ok once started?
  • opel astra - P0505 problem 22 Jan 2012 (Forum)
-- message --> Hi guys i've a 98 opel astra G 1.8, couple of months ago the EML came on on the dash the car kept on cutting off when trying to start it, it would drive but every time i slowed down it would cut off. I brought it to a mechanic he plugged it in and the code P0505 came up, he cleaned the throttle body the only difference this made was when i started the car cold and reved it for about a min or 2 it would stay on without cutting of but the drive of the car was still the same, when i reach an ideal speed that i would like to remain the car starts jerking very badly and the speed increases and decreases while my foot sits still on the accelerator, I have since replaced the throttle body to no joy.

I read this section avidly and then wonder if I still have the courage to get in a car and drive it on the roads! A couple of interesting comments today: 1. Cars getting bigger with every release in this case BMW 3 series. I agree entirely with the man who said if he wanted a 5 series he would have bought one.
  • N./A - Speed Hump Damage 22 Oct 2011 (Forum)
This idiot with a shoe size higher than his IQ then proceeded to flash his lights and sound his horn repeatedly. If he had engaged brain he would have noticed that I was driving a low slung coupe and not a 4x4. The silliest thing about it was that 20 yards later he turned off - moron!

  • Ford Focus - Dpf problems/turbos 16 tdci 14 Sep 2011 (Forum)
Here goes again Bought this 06 plate 1.6 tdci focus from the auctions Unknown when I bought it the turbo was blown Bought a refurbished turbo from ebay Had the turbo fitted and engine flushed etc Driving home from the garage (friend) first test after changing the turbo some sort of pipe blew off from either underneath the turbo or behind it sorry I'm not mechanily minded. So I took it back to my mate who then refitted the pipe all was sounding good again He then said the casing of the turbo was hot which he the put a computer thing on it (sorry) Which came back with a dpf fault He tried to clear it but he says It won't go No management light on before or after diagnostic After reading all these forums I'm a bit paranoid to drive it as it might blow the turbo again he said to me but took it for a mot today passed emissions No problem Can anybody help me I really want to keep this car but not if it's eating turbos Thanks in advance
  • Ford Mondeo II (1996 - 2000) - 1999 2.0 petrol burning oil horrifically... 8 May 2011 (Forum)
Drove it ten miles and it was smoking so badly I got pulled over. Thus, I'm guessing it's for the knackers yard - however as it sounds and drives so well, I'm wondering whether it could actually be something wrong with the dipstick and I've ended up overfilling it? Or if it's something like the valve stem oil seals that used to plague Escorts?
  • Jaguar XJ 3.2 V8 sport 1998. - Torque converter. 23 Dec 2010 (Forum)
Yesterday I engaged drive and there was a thump as I pulled away and the car from then on would only engage 2nd gear which was enough to get me home at a slow speed. A warning message of "gearbox fault" came up on the dashboard.
  • Why I rate Honest John's Car Reviews the tops 30 Nov 2010 (Forum)
What I particularily like about Honest John is that via the videos one can see to a certain extent how he drives the car and in what circumstances. So when he achieves 46mpg in the Polo with this engine I can believe it is a good guide to how economical the car can be. Using premium petrol I average 40 mpg with my 2006 reg Octavia 1.6 FSI driving in Hemel Hempstead.
  • Hyundai i20 - Hyundai i 20 10 Nov 2010 (Forum)
Also there is the five year warranty to consider, the dealers have a good reputation, the car is far more modern and nicer to drive than the Getz and economy and performance are up there with the best. However, I did own a Getz and when under warranty was almost faultless and even if the fuel consumption was a bit heavy for a 1.3 ( 37 mpg average) the car was excellent value for money and reasonable to drive.
  • Volkswagen Polo IV - Leak in car 6 Oct 2010 (Forum)
About 4 days ago, it just became stuck in the locked position and now the door won't open from the inside or the outside.  It rained heavily this weekend but I didn't drive anywhere so car was sat in the drive. On monday morning, there was a 2 inch puddle of water in the footwell in the back, on the same side as the locked door. The seats were bone dry, just water on the floor, and only on the one side in the back.
  • Citroen C3 Stop Start Auto 5 door 2005 - Problems with the ECU, Actuator and Car hopping 29 Jul 2010 (Forum)
Used this car for 13000 miles and then had problems with trying to start it, advised by dealer to fit new battery, did and everything OK for 18 months. 2 years later car started hopping and became dangerous to drive, took to dealer and advised to fit new battery, did this and everything OK  for 20 miles, started hopping again and very dangerous to drive, no power. Back to dealer. Put it on diagnostics, uopdated car computer and all the lights lit up, dealer stated that it needed a new actuator and probably would need a new ECU but did not really know what was wrong with it.
  • why doesn't anyone develop something like this? 20 Jul 2010 (Forum)
A different take on hybrid technology...... A car with wholly electric drive with the power and talk equivalent of (say) a modern 1.6 turbo diesel at least. Electricity for steady state running (and by that I mean enough for steady-state motorway speeds) generated by a small, simple, quiet petrol/diesel/biofuel generator.
  • Ibiza - Fiesta or Ibiza? Any recs? 30 Jun 2010 (Forum)
I'm looking for a small car, preferably 3 doors, with air con that will be reliable to run, won't drink fuel and will drive well.  I quite like the look of the Fiesta and Ibiza - any opinions on either one or anything else similar?  Budget about £9k plus whatever pennies I get for trading in the Puma!  Would like a Leon really but they seem out of budget.
  • Does cruise control use more fuel? 26 Jun 2010 (Forum)
This applies to modern cars.   This is my style of driving a car without cruise control. I accelerate gently, not sluggish or harshly. When i get to my desired speed i lift my foot slightly off the accelerator so that i am cruising at the desired speed using as less fuel as possible.
  • Ford Mondeo IV (2007 - ) - 07 2.0 Cutting out since purchase from national de 20 Feb 2010 (Forum)
When I asked if they had taken it to a Ford service dealer as promised they told me they had been asking lots of people who they knew! How do I stand legally with this, I am very wary of driving the car as it stands, in fact I don't think I should be driving it. Can I ask for my money back or for a replacement car? Thanks
  • Need something more comfortable 13 Feb 2010 (Forum)
Requirements are: Economy, good boot space, room for family use/holidays etc since my wifes 3dr Rav 4 whilst a great car is woefully inpractical (and no she wont part with it), and reliability. And of course the driving position needs to not require you to twist your lower body to get to the clutch etc! Any thoughts anyone?
  • Courtesy car provided by insurance company 5 Feb 2010 (Forum)
Recently my car was damaged, while parked, on a private drive. The damage to my car, a Ford focus, was a rear foglight and bumper, cost £443. I have been offered a courtesy car, paid for by the other driver's insurance. He admitted liability, which he had to do really, as he was the only person around at the time.
  • Subaru Impreza III (2008 -) - Do I or don't I?? 19 Jan 2010 (Forum)
I've left a £250 refundable deposit on it and arranged for my wife to test drive tomorrow first thing. I'm paying £7,500 for it with tax until April. Three questions... 1) Is this a sensible purchase, particularly in this price range; 2) Is this the latest model (registered May 2009)?
