  • Vauxhall Meriva - 2011 Vauxhall Meriva ABS/TC issue 30 Oct 2022 (Forum)
However, since then I bought a code reader to check the codes. Which tell me the codes a re these: C1208 - ABS Inlet Valve Coil Rear Circuit Short To Battery C1233 - Left Front Wheel Speed Sensor Input Signal Missing The error code says left but they've been replacing the right side! Now I spoke to them because the code says it's the left sensor but they've be working on the right!
  • Citroen C4 Picasso - Handbrake faulty message on Cit C4 57 17 Jun 2022 (Forum)
What also happens, is if I don't turn the ignition back over as it tries to stall, and instead I rev it some to stop it cutting out, for about 1-2 minutes the car 100% has a drag to it, a real weight and getting it up to 30 on the road isn't as easy as it should be. I've had the motor to a garage, and he just suggested to change the battery as it was running at 35% workrate, which I did, sadly to no avail. I've once thought it was as simple as changing my biting foot position on the clutch, maybe I wasn't giving it the way it liked it, so I actually adjusted my driving, and I hit the perfect point for the car where I'm not putting it through unnessecary stress to set off, but that didn't solve the problem either.
  • Mokka E - Moving to BEV - no second car no backup. 1 Nov 2021 (Forum)
Sadly the small car in the Transit sandwich we crawled past looked very bad indeed. I read to maximise battery longevity,  only charge when necessary and try to keep the level between 80pct and 20pct.   So that's the goal. Some advice from the dealer or the manual would have been good....    Oh I recently checked the tyre pressures.
  • Volkswagen Jetta 1.6tdi (2010) - Intermittent non starting issue 29 Dec 2020 (Forum)
I took it to an auto electrics mechanic who said that the car started every time he tried it. He said the battery, starter and alternator were all fine. The diagnostics test did not show any fault that would relate to a non start issue.  At the weekend and when i would use it more frequent during the day i find that it will happen again on the 3rd or 4th time i would go to use the car.
  • I'm worried about the full tank of petrol in my stored car during lockdown. Should I drain it? 17 Apr 2020 (Ask HJ)
I do not expect to use my car for another three weeks due to the coronavirus lockdown. It has already been stored in the garage for three weeks. I'm following...
  • Ford Focus flight 2004 - Stalling and knocking, help appreciated!! 9 Jun 2019 (Forum)
So two things are going on right now, first I have a seriously annoying irritating knocking noise and the car is stalling out. So work that has been done so far: Starter, battery, clutch, manifold, cat, brake pads and shoes, callipers, rear handbrake cable, drop links, cv joints, wheel bearings, air filter, fuel filter, spark plugs. Now the stalling, this has only happened sporadically, I’ll be driving fine then all of a sudden it just feels like the cars going to stall, I try to keep it going but it eventually just splutters, knocks like hell on earth, power drops, I drop gears but even that doesn’t make a difference.
  • Vauxhall/Opel/Holden Astra G / Mk 4 / TS - Cooling system warning light (Coolant temp sensor) 18 Jan 2018 (Forum)
The connector has a really nice 4.98V across the pins, the ground has good continuity to the negative battery terminal. My cheap OBD2 reader didn't pick anything up (KWP2000 protocol). This car does not do the 'pedal test' nor the 'paperclip test'. I got it scanned with a fancypants Bosch KTS-340 which gave me: Simtec 71 -------- 1 P0115 Coolant temperature sensor Radiator fan ctl. unit 3.0 ------- 3 44 Emission warning lamp (MIL) -------- Signal too small 2 Coolant temperature sensor ------- signal improbable 164 Coolant temperature sensor -------- signal improbable 164 Coolant temperature sensor -------- signal improbable To make matters worse, it seems to be intermittent.

  • Peugeot 407 SW - 1.6HDi No Power, Black Smoke 18 Aug 2015 (Forum)
Hi I have the above vehicle and am having a few issues, here is the story: I bought the car as a non runner, after towing the vehicle home I put a new battery on it and it started first time!!!!  However when driving it had no power under 2500-3000 revs.  After a few days of driving it lost all power and would not rev over 2000-2500 rpm, it did not even have enough power to pull away on a fairly flat road, I also got the "anti pollution fault" message.
  • Vauxhall Asta air con has stopped - what should I do? 21 Aug 2014 (Ask HJ)
The air con on my 2002 Vauxhall Astra has stopped working. The fan is also always on and it has got to the point where it is draining the battery and I...
  • Mile Muncher Required: Used 2nd Car. 5 Apr 2014 (Forum)
Hi all, I posted in 2012 asking for advice on buying something to replace my C220cdi Blue Ef. In the end I opted for a Freelander 2  which I have fallen in love with (despite battery issues) but recent job changes have left me needing a 2nd car. My job has changed and I've gone from a 3 mile commute to needing to do 800-1000+ miles a week. Hotels are out of the question as destination varies but it is always 90% motorway.
  • Peugeot 306 TD Phase 2 1997 - Peugeot 306 TD Phase 2 - Starting problems 7 Mar 2012 (Forum)
Things that I have done, in order; Checked voltage to glow plugs, showing roughly 12V on all Changed glow plugs Checked that the stop valve on the pump (lucas) was working, did this by listening out for it. Can hear an audiable click. Changed the battery for a Bosch 600+ Crank Amp Changed fuel filter and seal Cleaned the fuel strainer in the tank, did notice a large build up of dirt in on the strainer Fixed what seemed to be a small leak on the join going to the bulb primer Bled fuel lines using the bleed nipple on the pump Before I changed the fuel filter I noticed that when I pressed the primer bulb, a small amount of bubbles would appear from the fuel filter, visable in the clear pipe between the filter and pump.
  • Mazda MX-5 Mk1 1997 - Heated rear window wiring 10 Oct 2011 (Forum)
There's an existing female connector just behind the passenger seatbelt post, then there are 2 'spare' connectors by the battery in the boot; one white/opaque with wiring of 1-2 mm thickness attached and a black one with approx 4 mm thick wiring, presumably carrying a heavier current. I believe one of these two would be used when an electric aerial is fitted, however this car has a manual 'screw-in' aerial.
  • Peugeot 106 diesel 1997 - Front brakes sticking - Need help desperately 29 Mar 2011 (Forum)
It then cools off and is fine for the rest of the day. It has just passed it’s MOT, and has new exhaust, tyres and battery (had to to keep my job – I only use it to get to work). Given I will only get scrap value if I sell it now, I am trying to get it through the summer, with the hope of doing one more winter before giving in.
  • 1999 R reg Chrysler Grand Voyager 3.3 LE LPG - Chrysler Grand Voyager 3.3 LE LPG help wanted... 10 Jun 2010 (Forum)
MerlinTec, Simon, has provided spot on expert advice on many occasions - perhaps someone with his know how can advise me on my predicament. The battery went flat over Christmas and a lot of condensation accumalated inside the car.  When I tried to start it up using jump leads it seemed like there was smoke coming out of the vents.  After that i could drive it but the dials were not working, eventually they came back on there own, but were erratic at times.

All the (tech) stuff like water tank sizes ,heating types , satellite, leisure batteries sizes Anyone out there who can spare the time to answer any of these questions or offer advise We would be very grateful.
  • Milked at dawn - `bring it in at 8.30 sir`... 25 Feb 2009 (Forum)
So we can squeeze every teat possible (from the battery to the big ends) - to extract your money... You may feel you are a bit of a bull - or at least one of those rangy looking steers frisking about on Rawhide.. but no, you`re a milk cow, as soon as you are detected on dealer `radar`.
  • Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 01 1.6 Driver door wont unlock by key or remote 29 Dec 2008 (Forum)
Three days later when I went to pick it up, all of a sudden driver door does not open with remote OR the key. Guy fobbed me off saying it was the battery on the key. Anyway, here are my symptoms: All doors locked - key does not unlock driver door or any other doors. - remote does not unlock driver door but all passanger doors unlock. So I crawl in and manually unlock the driver door.
  • Nissan Almera (1995 - 2000) - 98 Keyfob problem. opening with key sets off alarm 4 Dec 2008 (Forum)
I bought 2 new ones no more than a year or two prior and am sure they're not the problem, either one produced the same results, one of which is the spare I never used and thus, I assume, the battery in it should be fine? Anyway, every so often the car wouldn't unlock until I'd pressed the button X times, anywhere from twice to 20 times. This then wouldn't happen again for weeks. Then it started getting more and more frequent until one day it wouldn't work at all.
  • Auction bargains - No V5 21 Nov 2008 (Forum)
I had a 'window shopping' look at BCA Newcastle yesterday, and saw some good bargains, but sorry didn't take notes for a detailed report. My Focus is still a going well. and is still on original exhaust, clutch, battery, starter motor, alternator etc. Apart from regular servicing, tyres and brakes, the only bills i've had are sub £100 to replace a hydraulic pipe (between clutch pedal and gearbox), and sub £100 to diagnose loss of power and replace HT leads and plugs to fix.
