Car buying strategy 29 Apr 2005 (Forum)
Residue value would be higher due to marque of car, so could pursue 1 if felt taken wrong decision. Option 3. Go for small fun petrol coupe (MR2, Mazda) and when wife's S Reg Fiesta is due to for a replacement, get an MPV style of vehicle to cater for family days out. I think I am between option 1 and 2 at the moment. Car needs to be able to accommodate 2 adults and 2 children (until option 3 is a reality). -
How did you spend your Easter? 30 Mar 2005 (Forum)
On reviewing mpg over last 6 months, discovered an average of 27. Unfortunately that ruled out first car we saw which was 'T' plate Jag S class 3 litre. 2nd was a range of ex fleet Passat Tdi's in Doncaster. I hadn't realised how much they had "down specced" the interiors on all but the sport: We test drove a light metallic blue with a champagne velour interior. -
Mondeo Advice 26 Feb 2005 (Forum)
My question is this; I have seen several (on autotrader, not in the flesh yet) that are around P, R, S, T reg in this price range but they are all high miles (of course). What is the consensus on buying a Mondeo of this age with miles like 113,000, 130,000? High mileage doesn't put me off but I would like advice about things like clutch life, engine life etc and any what experiences people have with a Mondeo of this kind of mileage, big bills to expect etc. -
Sale Advice - Accident Damage 14 Aug 2004 (Forum)
However, when it was 4 weeks old it was hit whilst parked (oh, how i sobbed). The damage was mostly cosmetic - new bumper, bonnet, n/s wing plus a new radiator. The car was repaired by my Citroen dealer; I was particularly forceful with them and got what I believe to be an excellent standard of repair. As the car was not written off, this accident will not show up on a HPI search. -

1991 Cavalier rearbrakes failed mot 20 May 2004 (Forum)
Hi... My white Cavalier failed its MOT on the rear N/S rear brake So I replaced the cylinder Then with my wife I bleed the new cylinder by means of opening the vavle after she had started pushing the foot brake and closing the valve before her foot stopped moving. -
Seat Ibiza TDi 130 28 Jan 2004 (Forum)
My obvious first choice was a nearly new Mk4 Golf TDi (I have a budget of about £11k), however not having kids or grannies to ferry about I didn't need the five doors and the 3 door 115bhp PD models are rare as hens teeth round here (well decent ones are anyway). A quick look for similar spec A3's reveals a lack of choice, and the ones I've seen have been a bit tatty. However, I've just had a brainwave about the new Seat Ibiza. It's built on a VAG chassis with VAG running gear and best of all the TDi comes with the 130 PD engine. -
Mondeo values etc (again!) 14 Jan 2004 (Forum)
I was assuming the price was down to the mileage - although the miles dont bother me, I'm sure not many people would buy a V plate car with that many miles on it. I've tried valuing the car using What Car?'s mileage adjusted valuations, and they place it at £3300 Dealer (Which this car is), £2800 private and £1500 trade (Which I assume is auction rate as well as tradein price). However, I'm not quite sure I trust it, as it also reckons a 50k 1998R 2.0 Ghia X is worth a staggering £4100 Dealer, £3500 Private and £2500 trade. -
Another poorly Fiesta 1.1L 10 Nov 2003 (Forum)
There are a few problems and I wondering if I should put them right or send the car to the scrappers. It\'s a 1990 1.1L ford fiesta with 93K miles on the clock. The bodywork is sound, but the back box is about to drop off (£30 to replace). I changed the oil and air oil filters at the weekend - being a bit of a novice I think I might have made an error somewhere. -

Coaching needed for coach driver? 14 Oct 2003 (Forum)
I sat near the front so I could be nosey and watch what was going on 'cos I used to drive coaches part-time in the early 70's. During the trip up the driver yawned continually, appeared to ignore his mirrors, mercilessly tailgated traffic trying to observe the 50 mph limit through the roadworks and took a 15 minute call on the plumbed-in mobile fitted to the dash (not hands-free) during which time he steered with alternate elbows (never deviating more than a couple of inches from the nearside lane marker). -
Car hire accident - advice ? 3 Oct 2003 (Forum)
Some days later she is in a queue of stationary traffic in a multi-storey car park. Someone reverses out of their space into the side of the car. She collected the other driver?s insurance details but neglected to take any witness details. All this was passed on to the hire company the same morning. We return the car some days later and told the deposit would be withheld until fault was determined. -
Fuel Filter on Back to Front! - Cavalier 30 Sep 2003 (Forum)
And given that the fuel filter appeard fine (if back to front) is it worth keeping as a spare? Assuming car continues to run fine, I shall be very pleased with my morning\'s labours... Cheers Jono -
Renault 19 Problem 13 Sep 2003 (Forum)
The problem is it will not idle. Other than that it runs great, accelerates normally, it doesn\'t misfire, it\'s not using excessive amounts of fuel or oil, and it starts first time every time. It is a 1390cc (EJ6) engine with a Weber 32 TLDR carb. I left the car standing for two weeks, while I was on holiday. -
Help - Indecision! 16 Jun 2003 (Forum)
Then I started wondering if the lack of toys and comfort would begin to grate after a while. I've half considered a Type-S - £3,000 cheaper, group 11 insurance, 5 doors and still reasonably quick. But it's not the same.... Other cars I've considered have been the Leon Cupra - rejected due to the new model coming out later this year which is gorgeous and dates the current model (also some worries about the reliability of the 1.8 20V engine). -
Bullying Fiat into a fix 24 Apr 2003 (Forum)
So then I turn on the Dealer's service manager, and tell him nevermind my contract is with you anyway so you sort it - he says he won't -- I say yes you will and I'm going to write this letter - write your s**ding letter he says... So I did and a week later the same gentlemen phones and books the car in - it now has a whole new sunroof asssembly (and it was only a few bubbles on a bit of trim). -
Life flashed before my eyes! 17 Apr 2003 (Forum)
Driving back on a lovely stretch of route national from Lyon to Grenoble, France yesterday (it\'s 26C here, not that I want to rub it in or anything), I was costing downhill past a procession of lorries crawling up on the opposite side. My speed was about 100Kmh, the opposite side traffic was doing about 30kmh. -
vectra di 14 Mar 2003 (Forum)
Weird thing is that once the car is started it will run forever no probs, it will even start off the crank all day no probs at all. It\'s just that initial first start. Anybody any ideas? If you want more info on something just ask. Cheers -

Why now?? 20 Dec 2002 (Forum)
I now have the battery on charge having spent the best part of an hour 'persuading' it from under the bonnet with what odds and ends of tools I could find and, obviously, some expletives aimed in the right direction. While removing the battery I noticed that the front o/s tyre was a bit low, mentioned this during a phone call to SWMBO to tell her that I'd finally got the battery off,'Oh yes, I forgot to mention, I think I've got a slow puncture, it's been going down a bit everyday for a week or so...'
