Can an S-Class be run on a budget? 18 Apr 2003 (Forum)
I've just bought a Mercedes S280 1997 4-speed with 95K and FMBSH to 88K. Short service due shortly. Can an S280 be run on a budget? I'm aware of Euro Car Parts and German-Swedish for parts. I've been told that cheap tyres are a false economy on this heavy tyre-wearing car. But what is the detailed service schedule on an S280? I don't intend to use Mercedes Dealerships for .. ermm .. anything really as they didn't seem to want to sell me a car in the first place ... -
BMW 3 Series - BMW e92 320i vs 320d buying advice 5 Jun 2025 (Forum)
Both are auto. Same price is the diesel a terrible idea. Or am I just scaring myself. P.s I know buying old BMWs is asking for wallet pain but I only need it to last long enough to save up for a better car 6-12 months -
Toyota Auris - Toyota Auris Hatchback VS Estate Internal Sizing 21 Mar 2025 (Forum)
I am on the lookout for a new car and need one with a bit more ample overall/passenger space in the rear as now have a 1 year old with a rear facing child seat which will be used up until 5/6 years of age, so the next 4 years at least. -
Pressure washers. Remind me ... 29 May 2023 (Forum)
Should this be in non-motoring or does it belong here coz I use it to clean the car's wheelarches? Was it GB who bought one a while ago? Can't remember which models were spoken of then. Sorry. My old Karcher 520MH (bought in 2002 for £159) still soldiers on, but must surely fail in my lifetime? -

Honda FR-V - Honda FRV clutch? issue 17 Aug 2021 (Forum)
Local mechanic said it’s a flywheel issue and quoted £1k to replace clutch and flywheel. I love this car but not sure it’s cost effective to spend that much on it. So left it off the road a few months (I dreaded driving it as it was so noisy and I felt sure it would breakdown) and now it’s absolutely fine again! -
Peugeot 107 /108 - battery storage at supplier 17 Aug 2021 (Forum)
Recently purchased a new Yuasa battery for no reason other that it fits both cars and one battery is nearly 6 years old and the other 7. I have a battery less jump starter so I am happy to wait until a problem develops. Can I just leave the new battery undisturbed on the shelf which presumably is what a supplier does? -

Audi 80 - Audi 80 Master Cylinder Seal Grommet 17 Feb 2018 (Forum)
Nothing is seemingly stamped on my master cylinder and Bigg Red list several sizes for my year. Girling is the make of the booster so could be girling. The old grommets I have for reference but I am not certain which diameter to measure as they narrow near the base bur have a larger centre diameter. Car is an 88 1.8 S with NE engine code. None of the larger factors list them, a few places have suggested I need 22.2mm but the bore seems a bit smaller to me (approx. 19mm it looks like?) -
2013 toyota auris - Windscreen smear....tired everything 27 Dec 2016 (Forum)
Merry Christmas all. Im trying desperatly to sort my windscreen. The car is only 3 years old with 20.000 miles. It had brand new bosch aero wipers on last month. BMW X5 40D - Dashboard rattle 10 Dec 2015 (Forum)
Put up with it as it not a big issue and accept it as just one of those things that will happen in a stiffly sprung 4 year old SUV? -
BMW 1 Series - Bumper repair - third party extortion 23 Sep 2015 (Forum)
My neighbour had CCTV images of my cleaner's car making a 6 inch long scratch/mark on the left rear side bumber of their 4 year old BMW 318. Our cleaner admitted liability but not wishing to go through her insurance company settled the matter directly. -
Hyundai i30 - Cut finger from door handle 27 Jan 2015 (Forum)
I have been very happy with my 5 year old i30 iwned from new, but recently the trim on the front passenger internal door handle has become razor sharp, resulting in 3 badly cut fingers for adult members of my family. Goodness knows what would happen with children's fingers. -
Dacia Sandero Stepway - problems 21 Jan 2015 (Forum)
Hello all, I would like to mention a few problems I have with my 10 month old Ambiance 1.5 dci. 1st thing was the lack of a temp gauge, I was so used to checking it out for turning the heating system on, and how the engine is doing on a hot summer day. The first month the car pulled to the left when breaking. -
Fiesta 1.0T - Real MPG 22 Dec 2014 (Forum)
My old 2010 1.6 Zetec S offical figure was 48mpg, real world I'd see 44mpg at best. The 1.0T ecoboost I'm thinking of purchasing has an official figure of 65.7mpg but according to HJ I should expect little more than my 1.6 What is the point of producing offical mpg figures if they are so inaccurate? -

4x4 - Which used 4x4 20 Jun 2014 (Forum)
Also need to be able to get to her in winter conditions. However, horse is retired so the vehicles main job will be a family car. I have two children and need something with more space than I currently have. Am considering Land rover freelander/Suzuki Grand Vitara... I had an old shogun once, but think they may be a little too big for day to day, plus out of my price range. -

t=86938">http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?t=86938 I know some boards don't like old threads being brought up so I've created this new one. If there are any Colt owners out there who can offer advice please let me know, as the car is otherwise worth buying!
