  • Variable message signs on M4 7 Jan 2004 (Forum)
Displayed on the new matrix infosigns on the M4 in South Wales this morning: "Don't drive aggressively" "Use your mirrors" "Avoid sudden lane changes" "Be courteous to others" The first time i've seen these messages. Normally it's either "Don't drink and drive" or "Wear your seat belt".
  • Peugeot 106 Diesel fumes problem? 16 Dec 2003 (Forum)
I've just bought a Peugeot 106 Diesel which drives beautifully except it seems to make me ill! Every time I drive it I can feel my chest tightening and I feel queasy. I've checked that the tailgate seals tightly but am wondering if there is anything else I can check.
  • Stereotypes of Bad Driver 29 May 2003 (Forum)
Just a bit of fun this one and not aimed at causing offence. In my everyday driving I notice drivers of the same make, model or class of cars displaying the same types of poor driving. Has anyone else noticed this. Please give your suggestions & reasons. I will give my four best (worst) examples as this thread is drawing to an end, but in the meantime I do not want to influence anyone.
  • Mitsubishi Sat Nav system 16 May 2003 (Forum)
A friend has just bought a recently imported Mitsubishi 4 wheel drive fitted with the original Sat Nav system. The remote is missing, and the screen is still in Japanese, and is trying to tell us that we are driving around a small offshore island next to Tokyo. Anybody know if these systems can be anglicised, and suggest a competent person to do this (preferably in the Stoke on Trent area).
  • MGZT190 in, Passat out? 21 Dec 2002 (Forum)
I have owned a Passat 1.8T for six months, drives OK, but a bit dull. However the interior groans and rattles more than any car I have ever owned. I escaped from SWMBO today and test drove an MGZT. Fantastic drive and interior felt very solid. I've owned three Rovers in the past and never had a problem.
  • headlamp dazzle 16 Feb 2002 (Forum)
If it is against the law to dazzle people, why are some manufacturers getting away with it? I can`t put it more plainly than that-you know the score (or do you wear your shades whilst driving? Or do you drive an A?!!!! Rgds. Brian

  • Suzuki Vitara (not for me) - Possible replacement for Korando 3 Aug 2024 (Forum)
This morning had a test drive in a Brand new Suzuki Vitara. Nice to drive, quieter than the Korando, but seats narrower and after a few miles calf muscles complaining and back and hips too. If it's like that for me, it'll be worse for youngrovergirl.
  • Any - Recommend me an automatic family car 17 May 2024 (Forum)
Would like something reliable as I like to keep cars for around 5 years. I've previously had manuals but my wife will only drive automatic and whilst this will be my car, I'd like something she can drive when needed. My previous cars have been Honda CR-V and Mazda 6 both of which I loved but don't necessarily need something as large.
  • ANY - Motorway Drive per Mile Charging 12 Aug 2023 (Forum)
https://www.honestjohn.co.uk/news/driving/2023-08/government-report-hints-at-road-charges-for-motorways/ I have a preview of this, since the motorways here (ironically called "Freeways") in Taiwan are charged. Accordingly, when my car was actually running, I didnt use them, other than for purely local journeys below the charging distance threshold.
  • Vauxhall insignia - Vauxhall dpf 22 Mar 2023 (Forum)
Hi I have got a 2011 vauxhall insignia cdti (a20dth) engine , when I bought it the sign on dash came up with diesel particulate filter full carry on driving and service vehicle soon , so I thought I could drive it home and like they say drive it like you stole it to clear dpf but it didn't work so I took it to garage for forced regen , he phoned me and said that it had diesel runaway and they checked oil and was about 10 litres of oil and diesel in sump , so he said he didn't want to do it , so I picked it up and it was only running on 3 cylinder and smoking like mad but drove it about 3 mile down road and smoke cleared , thought I would do compression test and number3 cylinder no compression
  • Nissan Micra (1992 - 2003) - engine chugging 28 Oct 2021 (Forum)
Hi, Having a few problems with my micra recently. When i drive off when the engine is cold it runs ok and doesnt chug/jerk. I can drive for more than an hour before the problems start. But as soon as i stop for more than a few minutes and leave the engine running (or turn the engine off for that matter), and then drive away, the car starts chugging/jerking quite bad.
  • Any - Did he or didn't he? 6 Dec 2020 (Forum)
The man who claimed to have done John O'Groats to Lands End in 9h36m was cleared today of dangerous driving and perverting the course of justice. https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2020/dec/04/man-cleared-of-dangerous-driving-over-record-breaking-uk-trip He claimed that his blog about the trip was an exaggeration of what actually happened.
  • Winners and Losers - Crash protection 26 Oct 2019 (Forum)
Interestingly he drives a Saab saloon but years ago many of his colleagues drove Lada Riva , again rear wheel drive cars which have the longitudal strength needed to to align the gearbox with the rear axle. He remembers vividly a MB slicing through a peugeot 405 with the worst outcome for all except the MB occupants.
  • Dashcam footage of dangerous driving. 18 Nov 2018 (Forum)
There have been plenty of times since i got the dashcam i have wondered about this, as i see plenty of horrendous driving!
  • Be careful what you tell your doctor. 13 May 2018 (Forum)
A letter in today's Daily Telegraph. SIR – A word of warning to Telegraph readers who drive and drink alcohol. If you discuss your alcohol habits with your doctor, your conversation is not covered by patient-doctor confidentiality. The DVLA can legally require your doctor to provide details of the conversation about your alcohol consumption, and you can easily get your driving licence revoked by the DVLA.
  • Pools of water in the road 27 Feb 2018 (Forum)
When passing that way it is common to see people waiting at the crossing and there is a risk of driving a wall of water over them. One summer day I was driving through a village and I saw a group of pre-teen girls waiting on the pavement beside a pool in the road and gesticulating to me to drive through the pool thus splashing them.
  • Ford Ka+ - Minor accident advice - hit bus but didn't realise 26 Sep 2017 (Forum)
I was stupidly trying to squeeze past a bus today and accidentally bumped it, nothing major, knocked my mirror a little but I thought that was it. Parked up, sorted it out, bus started to drive off but ambulance came up and so he had to park up again, just in front of me. I stayed put and bus began to drive off when ambulance went past so I'm not sure if he noticed I'd knocked my car on him.
