Yamaha engined golf buggy - Mikuni petrol pump 26 Jan 2015 (Forum)
It's powered by the pressure difference in the crankcase that pulses a diaphragm in the pump. That pulses a diaphragm that pumps the fuel via a couple of non-return valves. I've spent the best part of today figuring out how the damn thing works and deciding that one of the non-return valve's stuffed. I've taken it apart several times and by blowing down the outlet I can detect air coming out the inlet by placing the inlet in a tub of water and detecting bubbles. -

Subaru Legacy - Vehicle Road Tax Refund. 24 Dec 2014 (Forum)
We filled in the necessary paperwork and today I have received a one month rebate only, instead of the expected two ,obviously due to the salesman having no interest in me and my finances, so he has cost me £23.33 because of this new car tax system.(If he has been using up any fuel left in the car this of course is now illegal). Under the old system it was in my interest the post the tax disc promply so that the DVLA received the paperwork to allow the two months refund, yet another kick in the teeth for the motorist. -
Peugeot 206 HDi GTi 110 – 111000 Miles - Anti-Pollution Fault 12 Nov 2014 (Forum)
I took it to the garage the put it on the diagnostics and the only fault they found was a fuel pressure one, which he cleared, charged me £40 and I went on my way! One week later the car has done the same again. -
Volvo V50 2.0 Diesel - Volvo V50 2.0 Diesel Model year October 2009 22 Sep 2014 (Forum)
Mileage 56000 The first time it happened I used an additive to clean the engine. Any thoughts. I was thinking maybe the fuel filter requires draining but it has taken 4 months for the fault to reappear so this would seem unlikely. I have read reports of DPF sensor but the engine is not fitted with a particulate filter. -

vauxhall astra 1993 2.8l fi - ignition starting issues 2 Sep 2014 (Forum)
Since the original mechanic refused to do anymore work on the car, I had another mechanic check it. He says that the lower crankshaft is weak. He suggests that I change from fuel injection to carburation. I fail to understand why the car is not working since it was prior to repairing the gearbox leak. Please advise me as to what happened and what I should do about it. -
Ford Focus 1.8 tdci estate - Buying a car - Remapping Question. 4 Aug 2014 (Forum)
It's been remapped, increasing the power from 115 to 143 BHP, and the seller claims this has minimised the "flat spots" - in a similar model I've driven the turbo lag was significant, very much so at lower revs. The seller is also hinting at improved fuel economy as the purpose of the remapping. I know very little about this, but some quick searches have suggested that remapping can impact on the rest of the car, especially the clutch. The advert says a new clutch has been fitted - is this cause for concern about the impact of the remapping or something that should be taken as a positive? -
1998 Ford Fiesta Ghia 1.25 16v - Power issues 5 Jun 2014 (Forum)
Im also getting an issue where, at 50/55 mph and above i reguarly lose power and have to remove my foot from the throttle and then put it back before I get any response from the engine and the car carries on driving. Origionally I thought this issue might be due to a blocked fuel filter but as my mileage has tanked since I started having this issue I think I can rule it out. Tomorrow i will be checking for vacuum leaks around the engine and resitting the air filter/airbox as i think there may be an issue there. -
Peugeot 406 - Immobilizer light on, car fails to start 12 Apr 2014 (Forum)
Drove my car the night before ok and in the morning the Immobilizer light was on with the dashboard road lights indicator flashing constantly and the wipers being active. I can hear the fuel pump priming, the engine turns over but it won't start because the injectors are disabled by the ecu. I have replaced the complete set of identical ECU, BSI unit and lock and key with transponder and no joy, exactly the same symptoms. -
Ford Galaxy - Is all this "equipment" stuff that goes wrong? 26 Mar 2014 (Forum)
Never having had a higher end vehicle, I was blown away by the programmable self adjusting seat/mirror thing, the dual zone climate control, the central locked fuel filler, the electric parking brake, the tyre pressure monitoring, etc, etc. I really wanted to buy it. It had been well looked after, 75k miles and pretty much good as new. But a little pragmatic voice kept telling me all that comfort equipment was just going to fail and cost a fortune to put right. -
Ford Mondeo - Mondeo/Vectra 2005 - petrol or diesel? 24 Jan 2014 (Forum)
in the age range we are looking at (about 2005 reg) the diesel cars are the same price or cheaper to buy, which means that with lower fuel consumption a diesel may be a good idea. We know that for low mileage we don't want a car with a DPF, but everything seems to be turbo diesel.Does that matter? Anything particular to look out for? thanks! -
Energy Bills 8 Jan 2014 (Forum)
BG raises it's fuel prices and the Government advice is to switch to another supplier. Usual problem is that is as soon as you switch, that company pushes its charges up inline with the others. What can we do as consumers to hit back at them. -

Hyundai Santa Fe - Nose Weight 2 Sep 2013 (Forum)
Shouldn't the overall vehicle weight be taken into account, in a similar way to tyre pressure? My car could have 7 large people in it, with luggage on the roof, a full tank of fuel with 80kg on the tow bar, or it could have a single small woman driving, with a near empty tank, no passengers or luggage, and still be limited to 80kg. or am I being too simplistic? Driving in France - Beware 26 Jul 2013 (Forum)
Speaking to another couple on the camp site I was staying at they were stopped at the large fuel station near to the Eurotunnel. It appears if you have a SatNav attached to you windscreen you were being questioned further. Not sure if this is related to what I witnessed. P.S. The new overhead gantries that seem to have appeared on all major roads are used for a new HGV road tax system. -
Toyota Yaris - New diesel Yaris worth a punt? 4 Apr 2013 (Forum)
Does anyone have direct experience of the diesel yaris? If so is it worth snapping up and sacrificing the Skoda? I've read mixed comments on the fuel economy of the yaris and equally on the wisdom of investing in modern small diesels. I cover around 20k year, motorway and town driving. Any opinions much appreciated. -
Any - LPG or Diesel 30 Jan 2013 (Forum)
and finally is it not just worth the risk on either Diesel or LPG and stick to petrol and take the hit on extra fuel costs but less garage repair bills. Any advise appreciated, thank you -
Toyota Avensis 2.2 TD - Avensis Diesel Rough Running Problem 20 Jan 2013 (Forum)
On Wednesday I filled up with diesel from Tesco in Amersham. A few miles later it started to miss under load. It felt just like fuel starvation or, thinking back to the days on manual chokes, leaving the choke pulled out when the engine was hot. The following day it was OK but the symptoms returned on Friday on a longer run. Coincidence? -
Peugoeot 306 sxi 1.6 r reg - Puzzle 18 Dec 2012 (Forum)
Went to start this morning and the problems started. Started fine but had a loud noise coming from the back seat then it cut out. Changed fuel pump and engine ticked over fine but any pressure on the accelerator it just cuts out. Now I'm lost. Checked the injector breather valve and let it run for about 20 mins. Idleing fine but the same problem.
