  • Honest John's Motoring Agony Column 27-6-2015 27 Jun 2015 (News)
They will not be staying with me all the time and plan to go to Croatia and Finland in July too, so we are talking about around 2 weeks and maybe 2 weeks again in August – or, if it is feasible, I’d cover him for the whole two months.  It would be a shame if they have to rent a car because my car is available and will have a child’s car seat too. I am entitled to drive my partners car so I wouldn’t even miss my car. His mother is British, his father is Australian and my daughter (his wife) is British.  Surely there must be a way to get him insured to drive my car?
  • Hidden Heroes: Fiat Bravo HGT 10 May 2019 (News)
Back when it first appeared in 1997, the Fiat Bravo HGT was very much an also-ran in hot hatch terms. It was a curious and intriguing car, with bags of character, but it was outgunned by more sophisticated rivals, such as Honda’s VTEC-engined Civic VTi and the six-speed Peugeot 306 GTi-6. Indeed, in a contemporary Performance Car road test, it was even beaten by the Ford Escort GTi, though that’s one we find particularly hard to understand.  Yet today, the Bravo HGT is a car whose classic credentials are right up there.

  • We have a go at the Audi Driving Experience 5 Nov 2015 (News)
On the face of it even £299 is expensive – but unlike the usual supercar experience you can pick up from a carousel full of vouchers in Tesco, the Audi offerings are more thorough and more practically useful. The focus here isn’t on giving you the keys to a dream car for 15 minutes, rather it is on learning what a car is capable of and how to make the most of it. Even the cheapest £299 package incorporates four different activities and takes in a full morning or afternoon, with three cars to drive.
  • Heroes: Lord Montagu (1926-2015) 2 Sep 2015 (News)
His aim was to promote early motoring, and in 1899 drove the first car to enter the yard of the House of Commons. September that year also saw him competing in the Paris-Ostend race (finishing third in the touring car class), and by 1902 he was launching his own weekly motoring journal, The Car Illustrated.
  • Clubs criticise MoT changes 23 Oct 2014 (News)
According to our research , the pass rate for a 1984 car is currently 55.7% - that's about the same as a car from 2002. Now the FBHVC has issued a 1200-word statement outlining its response to the proposals, and is critical of the way in which the potential changes have been presented so far.
  • Assaults on Battery. The AA Explains How to Extend Battery Life 12 Mar 2011 (News)
We see cases where thebattery has failed after only two to three years rather than the usual five to six,as a result of only doing short journeys. "Batteries are made to workharder than ever before as a modern car draws around three times as much electrical current than a Morris Minor. A Morris Minor in the 1970s needed around 21A, a modern mid-sizecar uses as much as 65A" To help prevent problems, Paul says: "Regular long runs in the car could double yourbattery's life but if this isn't possible, a battery trickle charger will keep it ingood condition, extend its life and give you the reassurance that your car willstart.
