• Ford Fiesta 1388cc Zetec - Poor low speed running 25 Jun 2010 (Forum)
  Jumped in my 1388cc zetec Fiesta today after it had been stood for 2 weeks and did a 6 mile round trip.It ran lumpy at low speed as if running on three cylinders or missing.No go in it until wound up to 60mph where it seemed smooth at that speed on neutral throttle.Back on my driveway it did tick over but revved up very poorly.It`s done approx 120k with oil&filter changed regularly,and cam belt at 100k....but not a lot else done within the last 40k for service to the engine.Don`t want to fork out for injection cleaner if it`s something I can tinker with for free.Any ideas please?

  I hope the combined knowledge of H-J can solve this one. The car starts and runs up to temp as normal, but after about 20 mins the engine looses all power and splutters to a halt, after waiting for it to cool, it will re-start reluctantly and limp home. Car has solid state ignition (timing spot on) and SU's that are balanced and are jetted correctly.

  Hi All, As the title suggests, i've currently got run flats, the rear tyres almost need replacing. I was just wondering what peoples thoughts were. Are there any advantages to putting normal tyres on? Other than saving a few quid on the actual tyre purchase?

  Drove the car to work this morning with no problems and then this evening whilst driving back it started running very "lumpy". It done this the whole way home (about 5 miles) It felt like it wanted to stall but it never did. Also the Auto box was not as responsive. I got home, picked up my college stuff and went back out in the car.

  I have a 2000 corsa 1.4 sri it starts fine and runs ok until it reaches about 2-3000 revs then is very lumpy but is better when it gets above 4000 revs sometimes it is rough at low revs but not always. At fast cruising speeds it is fine and will go from 50-80mph with no problem but drop back to low speeds and it is back again.

  No spark at No. 4 lead from coil pack, when I lift off the plug lead at the coil pack end. Swapped plug lead 4 with 1, runs even more rough, (i dont have a spare lead to go to No. 1.) Put spare plug into No. 4 lead and held spare plug onto block, no spark (This sparked OK on No. 1 plug lead end). Multi-metered (not a megger!)

  Car has a few months mot left but bodywise its rough. It has the Bosch fuel pump which I have been informed can run on veggie oil. Would like to give it a go for curiosity if nothing else.....is it simply a matter of going to my local tesco and buying a few litres of veggie oil and putting it in? Can I sieve the contents of my deep fat fyrer or collect from the local chippie?

  I have a Golf Mk6 which has DRLs ( daytime running lights ). I've just completed a lengthy motorway journey, where I guess since I've got them, I was noticing how many other late cars appear to have them. I've read threads about use of sidelights in poor visibility, which I think DRL's address quite nicely, though there fitment to my car was purely incidental.

  The run out model of the Forester seem to be still around at attractive prices, which one would you go for: option 1 Forester 2.0l XC auto - sunroof Heated seats 08 reg but 0 miles option 2 Forester 2.5l turbo all electrics plus performance but higher running costs.

  Could this be a dodgy fuel pump? Is it something I can forget about till it gets worse? Engine is running fine.

  He's just bought a nice 1997 Passat 1.9TDI (90bhp) version and would like to know whether it can be run on veg oil, or veg-oil/diesel mix? I don't know anything about this model but can someone informed advise me, or point me to a good info source. Ta.

  could any one shed some light... 306 1.9 DW starts ok when cold but running on three cylinders till driven for a few min's. then runs and idols fine and steady. All four fire from warm starts. seams to run. I had a 1.9 XUD before and note this engine temp is a bit higher :shown as 80 deg cel at 2500 rev cruse.

  The only problem i had is that i tried to change the spark plugs by my own today and found some corrosion and rubish in the plug wells in the cylynder head and now the car is not running well, in fact it didn´t start for several times until i reseted the computer by disconnecting the battery power.   Rear wiper had come on of it's own accord, stopped in vertical position, and engine cut out. I've been round to car, disconnected rear wiper. Engine will fire, but won't run. Also think there are some electrics issues (suspect 'lights' warning light was on, without light switch being on. Anyone seen this? Any suggestions. All (helpful) comments appreciated!

  The D.I.L. 's Corsa 1.7 diesel has started to run rough, similar to having a missing plug. It was refuelled with fresh diesel, the receipt says so. I drove it after she used it and for me it ran OK. The local garage, not being a diesel specialist, looked at the fuel for water contamination and said it was fine but changed the fuel filter just as a precaution.

  A friend's daughter has gone abroad and left her Punto in the open on a hardstanding at the house for over a year. It has never moved or been run in that time. If it was a runner I think it might be worth £500. I guess it will need a minimum of a full service and all fluids changed, clutch, brakes and engine may be may be siezed, deffo a new battery, probably 4 new tyres.

  should I take it on a 3000 mile round trip one week after getting it back? If so should I stop regularly or is it better to just let it run? Definately never want to go through another major failure on an HDi again.

  my son has lost his keys and bought second-hand barrel and key. Turns engine fine but management light flashes and engine "runs " for only a second or two. Easy start or petrol straight into air intake runs only as long as it is there. No running on tank's fuel. Vauxhall wants a fortune to recode a new key and need it at garage which is difficult since it wont drive.

  Your expert advice is needed! My mondeo is deisel tdi LX 51 plate on 186000 miles. The problem I have is that the car runs fine when cold but as soon as it warms up [usually 5 - 7 miles] it judders like mad and then finally cuts out. The car won't start again until its cooler [usually 15 minutes] then runs fine again for a few miles.
