Vectra vs Signum 3 May 2007 (Forum)
Much to my surprise, the request was granted in principle! Wohoo! So, here?s the issue. As a commuter knocking up 480 miles per week, we need a diesel car which will waft me in comfort and safety and will double up as the family car for weekends and holidays for the two of us, a nutty 4 year old boy and a more sedate 1 year old girl. I?m currently thinking of a 12 month old 150 bhp Vectra or Signum Elite, but can? -
Looking after bodywork - Worthwhile? 30 Jan 2006 (Forum)
I usually buy cars at around 5 years old and get rid after 3/4 years service. Now I am not adverse to giving my cars a good wash when needed, however I feel some owners (usually the very young and very old) go overboard, washing and polishing every Sunday without fail and paying hundreds to get minor scratches and dents repaired. -
The Expected Life of a Punto 1 Dec 2003 (Forum)
At 26,000 miles (just under 3 years old)it's been off the road for over a week since the rear silencer fell off when the paper thin exhaust pipe broke. We couldn't find a non OEM part so had to go to a Fiat dealer. They said there were two possible replacements and neither were anything like what was on the car so they asked for the old broken exhaust to find one to match. -
"Over-engineered" Mercs of old 17 Dec 2009 (Forum)
I suppose that someone who has owned numerous Mercs over both eras would be best placed to make a proper assessment? If Mercs of old are really that good, does a used one make a great buy? Which models are most highly regarded for sheer engineering integrity? -
Old petrol disposal? 22 May 2008 (Forum)
Have approx 6 litres of 9 month old petrol mixed at 50 to 1 with 2 stroke oil for a small outboard motor of mine. I want to refill the tank with new fuel for it's 1st start of the season. How can i legally dispose of it? The other thread about coolent disposal and it's useful link does not help seemingly. -
Get me to the Church on time@107MPH on 'A' Road 2 Oct 2007 (Forum)
The 37-year-old woman was reported for carrying her eight-year-old son in a dangerous manner - unrestrained in back. There were a total of 162 motorists found to be exceeding the limit on Grampian's roads at the weekend. -
EOS alternatives 11 Aug 2006 (Forum)
SWMBO had an altercation with a little old lady at a roundabout which has ended in the little old lady admitting fault and SWMBO's 20 month old A2 being written off! The gap insurance looks a very good buy now! She wants an EOS but lead time is likely to be longer than the lengh of time she can hold on to the replacement car. -
Mercedes E320CDI Brake Pump Noise 14 Apr 2005 (Forum)
I have had it checked by MB today and they say its normal and nothing is wrong. It seems odd that a car that is perfect in all other ways has to immit such a noise. Any thoughts?? \" Keep doing the same old thing, youll get the same old thing, try something different today!\" -
Audi A6 (old shape) vs Passat 28 May 2004 (Forum)
Same applies to the Skoda Superb, I suppose More importantly, can't understand why it's compared to the 5-series ... I had an older 5 series once ... far nicer car, both on interior and ride & handling ..... Anyone else any thoughts ? With the new Passat out soon, I should think the old one will become a bit of a bargain, s/h, by next year... -
Just how is insurance calculated? 3 Oct 2002 (Forum)
Just been running some figures through as I'm planning to get an old banger for use as a second car, and need insurance to be as cheap as possible. Now I always thought the primary consideration was insurance group. Seems I was wrong. Entering in an old-shape Nissan Micra 1.0 (group 4) results in an insurance premium of £400 or thereabouts. -
Skoda Octavia Estate - Possible first time new car buyer (Octy?) 16 Mar 2018 (Forum)
The closest to me is £700 more than the cheapest (~300 miles away!), so I’m wondering if I can go in and negotiate around this, the trade-in on my old car, and on the inclusion of a spare wheel and towbar (as the minimum of extras I would want). Sanity check – the broker price is the same price (or less) as 12-18month old similar cars (with mileage) on autotrader. -

E class wheel bearing £260 repair bill ? 23 Jun 2007 (Forum)
My sister in law's 2001 E class Mercedes needs a new wheel bearing and she has been quoted £260. Surely this is unreasonable? Any views? Also, I've done wheel bearings on several old BMC and Ford cars in the old days. Are modern ones such as this any different ? Could I do it myself? Any opinion greatfully received. Thanks. Richard -
Advise - Replacement Gap insurance 14 May 2006 (Forum)
Hi, I am buying a new Focus and was interested in the dealers information on New for old Gap insurance until the car was 4 or 5 years old until the bit about the price came out. They wanted £500-600 pounds. I can find similar products online, but non direct with brand named companies. -

Small World 19 Aug 2003 (Forum)
About 6 months ago my brother traded-in his little KA for somthing a little bigger, about a week or so later I noticed that a couple across the road had bought his old car. Then on Saturday the new V5 came through for our year old punto, and it turns out the original owner was a chap about 7 doors down from us. Anyone else had similar happen ?? -
Would you buy a Espace Diesel?? 6 Feb 2003 (Forum)
I am looking for a large economical motor - either MPV or large estate car. As a result of the brand new Renault Espaces coming to market there are some, what appear to be, serious bargains to be had on the old shape. I have seen much negative discussion relating to the Diesel engines - however, is this related to an old spec engine or is the 2.2 unit any good? -
Breakdown Cover (again!) 24 May 2025 (Forum)
I was quite happy to renew when on the payment page I noticed a cross next to the ‘cover for cars over 15 years old’. I clicked on this and it added cover for cars over 15 years old (the MX5 is 21) and suddenly the annual price changed from £59 to £75. Is this a new thing with Autoaid?
