Ford KA - engine odd judder/ miss? 9 Jan 2006 (Forum)
I have had the throttle assembly cleaned and a few other bits of the EMS but to no avail. The car has run like this for 10K with no noticeable problems however it does seem prone to develop very noisy tappets. Please help! -
Astra Estate Auto 1.6 4 Jan 2006 (Forum)
We have an Astra Estate Auto 1.6 that belonged to my late father on Motability and is just coming up to its 4th annual service having run 19000 miles only. I was surprised to be told by the dealer that on this service it is their practice to replace the cam belt (4 years or 40000 mile whichever is the sooner) of course it will cost £220 plus vat on top of the £220 plus vat for the service. -
Car for winter 26 Nov 2005 (Forum)
If it was down to comfy seats the Saab would win hands down, but its not. What are the Scorpio & Omega like to own & run? looks don't bother me hence the Scorpio in my choice. As I will be spending less than a grand FSH, showroom condition & suchlike I'm not to fussed over, so any advice will be most helpful. Will let you know what I bought in due course. -
It's all gone a bit saggy 6 Nov 2005 (Forum)
Add clearing your sun-roof drain holes to that list of little jobs you should do from time to time 2. Does anyone know how to get rooflining material to tighten back up again? Running the aircon at nuclear setting today has made some difference, I haven't tried a hairdryer yet, but any sane suggestions would be most welcome. -
Ford Focus TDCi 1.8 - mpg and smokey 26 Oct 2005 (Forum)
Hi all, I recently purchased a 53 plate one focus tdci (115ps) and Ive notcied that on long runs I'm getting around 40-45 mpg driving at around 65-70 (I'm no boy racer by any means). I've notcied that also should I need to put my foot to the floor when the turbo kicks in I can see lots of emissions from the back of the car. -
Ford Focus Instrument Panel 26 Sep 2005 (Forum)
Yesterday before starting the car, I noticed that the Fuel Guage & Temperature Guage read approximately 1/3 before turning on the ignition!. The car started first runs OK, the guages then read as expected, but on turning off the ignition and parking the car the guages not zero. I believe that any repair will be covered by Fords 3Year Warranty however I would be interested if anyone has any ideas as to what has caused the problem? -
850Tdi estate - capable high miler? 9 Sep 2005 (Forum)
I've done my time in small economical hatchbacks (205, Uno, Punto etc) and it's time to get a barge that can cope with a combination of the short kiddy-taxi runs, daily business mileage around M25/M1 etc. plus the long M-way trips to the aged parent. 850Tdi stands out as being well-built, decent image and potentially capable of another 60,000 miles on top of say 120,000 already on. -
Catalytic converter problem? 1.6 Focus 9 Sep 2005 (Forum)
Windows have been down, air con on and a 200 mile long journey completed but still it smells inside. New tankful of BP (but not Ultimate) has gone in now. Standing outside car with engine running - no smell from exhaust. I would be very grateful if anybody can throw any light on this problem. I am worried the engine will be damaged. Please help. Many thanks. -
Safe, on Not! 20 Aug 2005 (Forum)
There are two possible hazards I can think of - A, he gets mugged by some PFD wanting to steal them - B, He gets run down by someone who is mesmerized by them. Has anyone seen them on motorcycles, yet? -
Ford Mondeo warning lights 15 Aug 2005 (Forum)
However it has a few faults and I wanted to know if anybody has any experience of them. 1) The airbag light flashes when the car is running. Most of the stuff on the net seems to point to a loose connection between the light and the sensor? Anybody have any experience of this? 2) The fan only seems to work in position 4. Is this just a resistor failure? -

escort 98 2 Jun 2005 (Forum)
Hi, just wondered if any of you could give any advice/ideas on a problem i've got with my 1998 escort, noticed this morning the heater would not blow hot air, cold works fine and the engine is running hotter than usual (always stays on the middle of the gauge normally). I opened the bonnet to do a visual inspection and noticed the water level was way down(was fine a week ago),topped the water up and switched the engine on,water level dropped within a few mins and the engine temp got above three quarters on the guage before the fan kicked in??? -
Why so many 'deals' 31 May 2005 (Forum)
The usual answer is that there is too many cars seeking too few buyers and the makers need to keep the production lines running. OK fine. But why right hand drive cars? We must be such a small percentage of production, that why do they simply not produce fewer RHD cars for the obviously smaller market? Does the same situation apply in Ireland, or Cyprus/Malta etc? -
golf gti 1.8 turbo ecu(2000)eng.code agu 22 May 2005 (Forum)
However i would like to test it on my golf to be happy that it is a good unit.I have connected it to my car but when i switch on the ignition the message 'immobilisor activated' appears on the dash and the engine fails to run. It has been suggested to me that the ecu has to be somehow coded or programmed to my key?? Therefore i cannot test the unit to check its condition. Any suggestions would be appreciated with costs involved if possible. -
Cycle Carriers - Any Recommendations 30 Apr 2005 (Forum)
Got our old one which fits to the rear of the vehicle, not used it for sometime but from what I remember its held in place by two straps which run over the top and under the bottom of the rear door, but I dont think it would be wise to use given I have a tailgate spoiler - think the weight on the straps would break the spoiler as its only plastic. -
Motorists paranoid? 14 Apr 2005 (Forum)
I read yesterday however that a bill intended to deal with the miscreations of foreign drivers in the UK had run out of time and, to cap it all, a leading car magazine has demonstrated how drivers of foreign registered vehicles are effectively above the law in many respects, there being virtually no enforcement action pursued by the authorities here. -
Citroen ZX TD suspension knock 6 Apr 2005 (Forum)
It's almost a rattle rather than a knock, in fact, it's that light. The noise is triggered when the front wheels run over a slight road surface imperfection - it doesn't happen when the suspension deflection is greater. It doesn't seem to happen when the car is heeling over in a bend, either. Could this be the antirollbar bushes? -
Aston Martin Win at Sebring 21 Mar 2005 (Forum)
Sports car racing beats F1 by miles for spectator-friendly circuits and teams, and sheer entertainment. Watch out for the re-runs - although I'm not sure whether it is scheduled anywhere yet. -
Premium diesel oil 21 Mar 2005 (Forum)
Have recently acquired a 2.4 5cylinder diesel VW Transporter off a friend, which is 8 years old with 84k on the clock, serviced in a variety of places. I intend to run it for 3 years plus, with 20k miles pa, meaning 3 annual oil changes. At this age, should I use fully synth diesel oil, such as Halfords own, or any cheap stuff from my local factors? Will the better oil prove beneficial long term to the engine longevity. -
fiesta - engine smoke 14 Mar 2005 (Forum)
I have recently rebuilt my fiesta 1.1 (1995)hcs engine, it had a broken piston ring and was burning oil, I replaced the piston rings and it seemed to be OK there is no blue smoke from the exhuast and no eggy smell. but the oil is still going somewhere, there seems to be alot of smoke coming from the oil filler cap when I remove it when the engine is running, I guess this indicates excessive blow by, I sort of know the answer to this already I.E. rebuild the engine again properly(this time honing the bores or reboring) but is there anthing else, easier that i could try first?
