  • Replacement car 18 Apr 2022 (Forum)
I have had my current 2003 Ford Focus 1.6 auto since 2006 and I love it. It is currently in the garage for a new in tank fuel pump and I have been thinking it is inevitable that one day something serious will go wrong and I will need a replacement.   I am a window cleaner and I also use it for work so I want another similar sized vehicle with a similar sized boot.
  • Vauxhall corsa 2002 - Failed Emissions on MOT tried everything? 23 Mar 2022 (Forum)
Still just over the limit to pass!  Used lots of engine & cat cleaner. Mechanic said may be a little too much fuel going thru the engine?  No faults on diagnostics and no Engine light. Diagnostics says sensors are doing their job and nothing jumping out to suggest what may be wrong? Any one have any ideas what else we could do?!
  • Honda deauville - Carburetor forums or sites - bike issues. 26 Jul 2021 (Forum)
I want to try to understand why I am getting exhaust backfire on overrun, sometimes a phhfft backfire in the air box, hesitation after overrun when accelerating again like fuel starvation,, pulsing or jerking on a steady throttle. Applying the choke negates a lot of this but not completely.  Bike idling and wide open throttle acceleration are perfectly ok. I have heard a lean issue might cause this, but if so, why the exhaust backfire on overrun?
  • VW CC - 2016, 2L TDI - Not the same after going into dealership 10 Aug 2020 (Forum)
Long story short my car has been in and out the dealership 6 times since buying it in Feb, having multiple problems at from oy 26.I've had to fight to get things done under a warranty. Latest was air-conditioning wasn't working. When I got car back from VW I instantly noticed fuel economy was way down from an average of between 47 and 52 mpg to 31 and 37 MPG. Next EML light was in. 02 sensor. Back to dealer, they said they replaced it but my economy is still way down, currently at 33.7.
  • Ford Fiesta MK6 Zetec S 1.6 TDCI - MK6 1.6 TDCI Zetec S Diesel Leak 13 May 2020 (Forum)
I had my friend who's a mechanic look, and he got a picture of where he thinks it's coming from, somewhere around the fuel pump. Before he had a look, I replaced one of the pipes/clips because I thought that was the source of the leak, after replacement it's clearly not leaking from there. I've attached an image of where my friend thinks the leak is, any help would really be appreciated, it's probably one of the most annoying problems I've came accross on cars.
  • Replacing my old ST-2 3 May 2020 (Forum)
Audi A4-quattro 2.0l or possibly the V6 Diesel Jag XE 2.0 AWD BMW 3 series X Drive 330i or the equivalent Diesel  Ideally the car will have equal to or better fuel economy than the ST and be able to carry 2 adults and a child in a car seat in the back for occasional short trips. I am not interested in 0-60 times but I do want something that has good in gear acceleration.
  • Honda Jazz - Wife needs reliable, economical automatic car! 1 Feb 2020 (Forum)
Nissan note - not sure how these compare to the Jazz. Are they reliable and good on the motorway? BMW 320i 170 bhp, has decent fuel economy.  Is there any other cars you would recommend?
  • VW Golf 1.6 Bluemotion - Jumpstarted friends car - lost 10MPG 10 Jan 2020 (Forum)
Straight away after using my car to jumpstart his, I think it has had an adverse affect on my cars battery/alternator/fuel injectors?  My car now very slowly the MPG goes up and the maximum I can get out of it driving eco friendly is around 65 MPG, also when starting the car it sometimes takes a little longer on the Ignition, and when idling the MPG starts to drop, this was not the case before.
  • Honda Accord 2.2i-CTDi Oil confusion 16 Oct 2019 (Forum)
Comma even suggests that the correct oil is a 5w-30 semi-synthetic despite Honda's statement in the handbook. I've looked carefully at all the info on this forum and found that B1 is a 'Fuel Economy Diesel' oil and B3 is for 'High Performance and/or extended drain' requirements. Also, I can't find any oil spec. from other manufacturers that combines fully synthetic 0w-30 with B1. I'd be very grateful for comments.
  • Landrover Freelander TD4 2008 - Turbo problems. 14 Oct 2019 (Forum)
Hi, Recently I noticed that my car was not running good. (losing a bit of power). I thought it was a dirty fuel filter, so I changed that and there was no change on the performance. The car has 180,000 miles on it. I took my car to the local garage and he put it onto his diagnostic machine. The diagnostic machine said that it is a Actuator problem.
  • Chevrolet Kalos - Chevrolet Kalos Problems - Please Help 14 Oct 2019 (Forum)
About 9 months later it started again but this time a bit worse and most days the hold light will come on two or three times.  Oh yes the fuel consumption is up to and the revs seem to be high.   I have used injector cleaner in the system which has helped a bit.     Once it has been going for about 10/15 minutes it settles down and is fine.
  • Honest John's Motoring Agony Column 07-10-2017 Part 1 3 Sep 2019 (Forum)
I did have each serviced by BMW at the correct service intervals which might have had something to do with it. Oh, and both diesels ran on 'supermarket' fuel the whole time.
  • Nissan X trail, Toyota RAV4 - Toyota RAV4 2nd Gen vs Nissan X Trail 1st gen 5 Jul 2019 (Forum)
Most used cars of that age have done around 150 - 250,000 km here, seems like quite a lot? My main priorities are: Reliability Good fuel economy Not too expensive to repair I'd be keen to hear any advice or other car recommendations that may be worth looking into and buying advice in general Cheers
  • Golf GTi Mk3 Cutting out 10 Feb 2019 (Forum)
An independant garage has check the self diagnostics and the only information from the fault code is "Engine shut down without drivers instruction". I have had the relay for the fuel pump replaced as I was told these can "stick" but this has made no difference. Any thoughts would be appreciated to save me replacing all the engine management sensors one by one then finding it is still not fixed.
  • MG ZS 2017 - 2600 miles and 9 weeks 5 Feb 2019 (Forum)
Little update, Car doing it's job after the initial little quibbles with selling dealer and the faulty crankshaft sensor that was diagnosed first time and replaced without fuss. Overall fuel consumption a satisfactory 40-41 mpg, doing the brim to brim method, and happy with that. Youngrovergirl drove it a while yesterday for the first time and liked it. I sat as a passenger, reclined the seat a bit and enjoyed the comfort without being tensed up.
  • Volkswagen Golf III (1992 - 1997) - 1995 2.0 keeps cutting out 29 Dec 2018 (Forum)
When I start in the morning there is a whistling noise from the engine when I accelerate away. I have changed the fuel relay fuse after speaking to VAG however this has not worked. The car is completely standard. I again broke down this morning, went back an hour later and it started and drove fine. Any ideas that may help would be appreciated.
  • BMW 320i M-sport - BMW 320i pertol incredible mpg 5 Nov 2018 (Forum)
According to the consumption and distance covered I achieved 64 mpg! I am amazed at that figure - I used stop-start and eco mode and used Shell v-power fuel and cruise control wherever practical. I also used drift where safe.. The return journey involved busier, wet, roads so consumption was just over 50 mpg, I verified the connected drive app figures by refilling as soon as I returned and working out the total number of litres used.
  • Toyota Auris - Auris Hybrid 2013 - maintenance 28 Jul 2018 (Forum)
Change radiator coolant 3. change brake pads/discs 4. change auxilliary belts (if it has them) 5. change air/fuel filters I really do not want a car which has to go to the dealer for routine servicing, I cannot afford it. Any advice is very welcome. Thanks
  • Audi Q3 - Annoying technology today 6 Jun 2018 (Forum)
Decided to go A14/A428/A421/M1/M45/A46/M42 etc to avoid the tedious bit of the A14 Anyway we'd been on the M1 for maybe 10 minutes, when 'bong' followed by dash message "possible loss of tyre pressure, check tyres". Pulled into Northampton Services, visual check and tyres looked OK. Airline at the fuel station not working as they are pulling up half the forecourt. Stupidly had not taken either my tyre inflator or a gauge. Proceeded to Watford Gap at HGV speed, airline working, tyre pressures spot on (allowing for being warm) Grrrrrrr!
  • Latest miracle bolt-on for engines 24 Apr 2018 (Forum)
Today's Times reports a package invented and developed by a retired submariner, which is claimed to clean up petrol and diesel emissions - while improving consumption figures - by adding hydrogen to the air/fuel mixture.  The hydrogen ( ortho -hydrogen, just to make it special) is generated by electrolysing caustic potash solution in a 'black box'.  It is said to have been tested thoroughly and proved to work - like all the others, you may say.
