Toyota Auris Hybrid - Used car inspection 15 Oct 2015 (Forum)
Later the same evening I received a link via email to follow to my own folder on their server where I was able to view and download everything. 63 photos and lots of other stuff including HPI check Certs and reports, a full print out of my on board diagnostics and a full check list off hundreds of items checked with summary of vehicle condition and advice as to value. All car papers checked and images supplied. I did buy the car and managed to knock off £400 from asking price to cover the cost of a full set of tyres. I don't normally leave reviews but was so impressed. -
Tyres 27 Jul 2015 (Forum)
Car has covered 25,000 miles, and the rear tyres are on 4mm. Front tyres are about 6mm. (RWD car) So, buying 'premium' brands like Pirelli doesn't seem to be as expensive as some people reckon. There certainly doesn't seem to be a price penalty associated with them being the tyres used in F1. -

Crash overtaking a stationary bus 2 Jan 2011 (Forum)
I'm also concerned his insurance company won't pay out for the damage to his car even if nobody is found at fault due to the level of cover he has. Can anyone please offer advice? Thanks in advance -
VW Polo 1.4 petrol - New VW Polo, new engine after only 4000 miles 12 Sep 2010 (Forum)
After finding a few spots of oil on my drive and some oil spray in the engine bay I booked in my new model VW Polo 1.4 petrol into the dealer last Friday with what I thought was a small oil leak. Yesterday they told me the news that it requires a new engine. The car is only 4 months old and had up till then covered just over 4000 trouble free miles. The engine will be replaced under the cars warranty (at the time of writing this I do not yet know why the engine change is required). -
VW Golf - Warranty on parts after car repair 7 Apr 2010 (Forum)
General question - I had a clutch master cylinder replaced a few months ago due to the clutch pedal getting stuck down on my Golf. This cured the fault until a week ago when now it is back. Car into garage and they feel needs a new cylinder again and said yes that the part is covered by warranty. Gave me 2 options - take car to VW (part was apparently from them initially) let them take it apart and if found to be faulty the work will be free or (ii) they will do it, I'd pay in full for work to be done and the new part but then garage will send part back under warranty and reimburse me (but labour would remain payable). -
Volkswagen Touran MPV (2003 - ) - 05 1.9tdi out of warranty major repair bill 10 Feb 2010 (Forum)
It suffered a breakdown 2 months out of warranty and it has taken almost two weeks for the dealer to come to some kind of proposal to pay for the repairs needed. The car lost power while accelerating around 50 mph and a cloud a black smoke bellowed out the back and all kinds of lights lit up on the dash, we stopped the car asap. RAC (via VW Assist) surmised that the oil seal on the turbo had failed as the engine had no oil remaining in the sump and the rear of the car was covered. -
Need a car for £100 2 Mar 2007 (Forum)
Been leaning towards old examples of BMW/Mercs as in theory will have good engines but I don't really know how accurate that perception is. Simpler cars (Ford etc) will be easier to maintain or repair. Thanks in advance for any suggestions :-) -
Insurance: declaring modifications 17 Mar 2006 (Forum)
As a few of you may remember, I ploughed my wife's Vectra estate into a kerb in the snow a couple of weeks ago. It turned out to be an insurance job. I have now got the car back. The car is an 'LS' model, about a year old when purchased. It had steel wheels as standard. Just after I bought the car, (it was a wedding anniversary present, ahhhh!) I fitted some SRi alloys to the car for her. -
Manufacturer / Dealer Incomes 10 Jan 2005 (Forum)
Any other works will, in theory be covered by warranty so the cost will be met by the manufacturer (or dealer in year 3). So is income now more weighted towards car sales commission, accessories income, or is that why hourly rates at service depts are so high? -
Expected Battery Life 25 Jun 2004 (Forum)
I have just had a complete battery failure on my just over 3 year old Skoda Fabia 1.9tdi. The car was bought new and has covered 61,000 kilometers. Is this extremely short life usual? I know that usage patterns affect a battery, but in my case, the car rarely sits in the garage for more than three days before a decent shopping trip run of between 20 to 35 kilometers each way is done. -
What's up with Vauxhall? 19 May 2004 (Forum)
An article on the Carkeys website is called "Goodbye To Vauxhall" -- see http://www.carkeys.co.uk/columns/rufus_j_flywheel/2896.asp It's intended as a "humorous" column, and it's not really my idea of funny -- too contrived and laboured for my tastes -- but central point is interesting. The writer says that Vauxhall are imposing onerous conditions on journalists testing its cars, as a result of which he (and some other journos) are allegedly refusing to test GM cars. Frustratingly, there is no info about what those conditions are. I can guess that they might be some sort of request not to conpletely trash the car, which would obviously scare off those testers who seem most interested in assessing a family hatchback as if it was a rally car rather than a covered shopping trolley. -
Can an S-Class be run on a budget? 18 Apr 2003 (Forum)
Can an S280 be treated in anything like the same way? Surely a service every 9,000 miles is pessimistic and covers those drivers who thrash their cars. I NEVER race my car, I always let it warm on first starting and avoid short journeys wherever possible. I'd like to keep it for another 10 years, at least so I'm not really interested in keeping a resale value ... at all. -
Renault Safrane 2.2 What to do? 11 Apr 2003 (Forum)
A short and unsuccessful attempt at legal action occurred and the situation is now this: I owe the garage 600 quid for work on the car + storage. However to get rid of it the Garage will dispose of the car for me leaving us quits for £160 + Towing Costs. The car is in theory worth 1800 quid in good running order. I have since bought a new car. -
