Apologies if this particular aspect has been covered before but I can't see it in any of the threads.
I recently saw a VW Golf which had some sort of headlight modification so that when his sidelights were on, they resembled the angel eyes of a BMW 5 series' lights. I have since seen an old style series with the same.
Now I know that we now get bulbs in all colours etc, but is there an actual law which determines the shape of the light, especially on sidelights? Standard manufacturer sidelights can vary from a small single bulb on its own as in my current Scenic, to the standard headlamps as in most cars.
However, is there anything to stop this being adopted by the go faster brigade, and before you know it we could have lights that, for instance, have logos, or initials or whatever? I understand that on main beam they would need to comply with certain distances and brightness etc, but what about on side lights?
Think I better lodge that patent just in case..........

OK I lead a sheltered life and there are no VW/BMW 5 light mods up here which I really don\'t understand as BMW are too soft a vehicle for us hard northerners - more of softy for the south?
I left it 24 hrs near enough to see if someone would come up with something but alas you astound the BR so for what it is worth;
A cursory look through the Road Vehicles Lighting Regs doesn\'t come with anything specific apart from the Angles of Vis on front position lamps:
i.e. 80 deg outwards 45 deg inwards on the horizontal plane and 15 deg above and below the horizontal on the vertical plane.
It would appear if numpty put a Batman sticker across his headlamp it doesn\'t infringe the Regs, BUT our Lord and Masters are compusmentis???? and it could be an offence under Con and Use Regs 100 of using a a vehicle in such condition as likely to cause danger i.e an inability to see the road ahead through reduction in the glim.
