Peugeot 307 (2001 - 2007) - 04 1.6 turbo problems 26 Dec 2009 (Forum)
Hi, my 307 is 110bhp hdi version. the turbo failed in June without any warning lights and was replaced. I have since had a fuel tank harness and EGR valve done also. The problem is the turbo feels like it's cutting out sometimes, boost power goes although car is still driveable, just very slow. the same way it did when the turbo slowly disintegrated in the summer. -
Which car companies will be left in 10 years time? 20 Dec 2009 (Forum)
With the demise of Saab and others on their death beds and the governments of Europe legislating to make our cars clone-like and fuel efficient above all else I am left wondering who will still be standing in the mainstream in ten years time? I would suggest we might have : One French company (with Nissan); VAG; KIA/Hyundai; Ford (& Volvo?) -
Dutch approve per-kilometer tax for drivers 17 Nov 2009 (Forum)
Lets hope it never makes it over here. Completely pointless and we already have a perfect tax in place - fuel duty. -

Honda Accord UK (2003 - 2008) - 04 2.2 Diesel - glowplug warning light problem 14 Sep 2009 (Forum)
AA could not identify the fault, so recovered to Honda main dealer. No diagnostic code - they checked the fuel system and replaced the diesel filter (which was in back to front), checked (but did not dismantle) the exhaust / cat and then tried a replacement ECU. Nothing found - they said it was OK to drive home but the fault would recur - and it has. -
Jensen Button's Bugatti - what would you buy 13 Aug 2009 (Forum)
Mercedes E63AMG Estate at £72k (silver of course) Lamborgini Mucielago LP640 at £140k (yellow of course) Leaving some change for a brand new MX5 for inconspicuous fun, a new diesel Golf for winter and nearly £400k in the bank for insurance, upkeep and fuel. Would you buy the Bugatti???????? -
BMW Z3 Roadster (1997 - 2003) - 97 1.9 Mystery pipework 1 Aug 2009 (Forum)
It's completely separate from everything else and our best guess is that it's either a transmission oil cooler or perhaps part of the fuel return system. He has invested a huge sum of money in the official workshop manual - paper, not a pirate DVD! - but can't find it mentioned anywhere. Can someone elucidate? -
Misfuelling- a little prompt 23 Jun 2009 (Forum)
When you go to the till the cashier usually confirms the pump and the amount. Why can't they also state type of fuel. Some may already do this, but many don't. The advice over many years on here from experienced posters is that you should never start up once misfuelling has been done. But the numpty that has, would usually be oblivious until turning the key. -
Skoda Octavia I (1998 - 2004) - 03 1.9 Tdi... solid? 28 May 2009 (Forum)
I doubt if the car has a DPF, but does it have one of these absurdly fragile dual mass flywheels, and is there any risk of the fuel pump going? It will spend quite a lot of time not being used, and most of the use it gets will be pootling. I've promised to call him later today so if anyone has an opinion... -
BMW 5-Series E39 (1996 - 2003) - 98 2.0 replacing 2.0 single vanos engine 28 Apr 2009 (Forum)
There are options of 2.5 single vanos engines from e36 cars or a 2.0 single vanos engine from an e34. The 2.0 would be preferable as I think the fueling would be better suited to my ecu etc. Just not sure if it fits in directly with exhaust manifolds etc? The engine codes are very similar suggesting they are the same engine with minor modifications for the later car. -
Renault Megane (1999 - 2002) - 00 1.6 starting problem- poor acceleration. 21 Apr 2009 (Forum)
If there are a little slope in the motor way the speed goes down regardless how hard you are pressing the accelerator. Although I am not very good with cars but I am guessing it is something with fuel supply. Is there anyone who has experienced the same? I would really appreciate any advice. Thanks john -
Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 04 2.5 mk3 v6 lack of power 8 Apr 2009 (Forum)
Car was "serviced" before I bought it ( 3 months ago) but I think they only changed the oil. Added some REDEX to a tankful which has improved my fuel consumption, a little. Air cleaner is OK. thanks -
Volkswagen Golf III (1992 - 1997) - 95 2.0 Rust / hole underneath 28 Mar 2009 (Forum)
It is quite big (i can get 4 fingers in there and feel the carpet) The car is due a MOT shortley. Will this be a fail? Can it be welded? The hole is next to 3 lines (fuel line and brake line i assumme) or can we get some of that sticky metal sheet and put that over it? (wil it pass the MOT like this?) With regards to the welding, will it be a expensive job? -
Peugeot 307 CC (2003 - 2008) - 05 2.0 HDI - unresponsive at low revs 23 Mar 2009 (Forum)
I'm sure it's linked to the EGR valve but the dealer is no longer interested and wants to charge me to diagnose the problem. Is there an additive I can add to the fuel to try to solve the problem or is it easy enough to clean the EGR valve? Thanks, Rob -
Lightest most economical and comfortable? 2 Mar 2009 (Forum)
Not bothered about top speed as will only use for fun/touring. As long as it will do 80mph on the flat thats OK. Must have excellent fuel economy. Not bothered about make as, like cars, I guess they are all pretty reliable these days. Possibly now even more likely to kill myself but hey, que sera......!! I would be very grateful for any suggestions. -
Volkswagen Passat (2001 - 2005) - 05 tdi 1.9 Won't start after new head gasket 28 Jan 2009 (Forum)
Before attempting to start I ran a fault check on the engine and no faults were displayed. I have checked that fuel is returning from the tandem pump (about 25 ml for 2 - 4 sec cranking). The live data appears reasonable but is obviously limited as the engine can only be cranked. I have discussed the problem with the man on the vag-com helpline and we are faily sure that the problem is not electrical. -
Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 02 2.0 failure for engine to start 20 Jan 2009 (Forum)
Also is there any way that a layman, with many years of experience of earlier petrol engines, can: 1) Test that the injectors are passing fuel, and 2) Check the compression of the cylinders. I have a pressure test gauge which I have used on petrol engines through the spark plugs. Regars ronniethomas -
Vauxhall Corsa B (1993 - 2000) - 97 1.2 poor running, then won't start - now solved 16 Jan 2009 (Forum)
The car very quickly was running badly, cut out when idling, and finally refused to start. It was full of good fuel, and had good battery etc. It was towed to my indy, who found a load of faults in the memory, finally managed to clear the memory, and then started looking at the faults that appeared. The plugs were very badly damaged, and were replaced. -
Renault Modus (2004 - ) - 05 1.5 Removal of instrument cluster? 14 Jan 2009 (Forum)
I was driving past an MOD establishment when I lost all instruments, car continued to run, but had no instrument panel and radio died, after about 30 seconds, it all came back to life, but the mileage had shot up to 150,000 miles and the fuel and temperature guages no longer work. Did speak to the MOD and asked if they were testing EMP weapon or something, they said "what EMP weapon" and got quite shirty, so im looking at buying a replacement panel and popping it in, but there doesnt appear to be any obvious means of removal. -
Vauxhall Vectra C (2002 - 2008) - 2003 18Ls - Air Flow Meter 13 Jan 2009 (Forum)
Hi, my engine management light has been on for some time now, initially it was very sluggish on starting but has gradually got worse, would think there was kangaroo petrol in it, but the fuel is fine and has recentle been serviced just before this recent problem arose, its now hard to get over seventy and can nearly come to a halt as the power somes just isnt there, on starting there is a whining noise which gradually goes away.
