• Ford Transit Connect - Van only starts on easy start 14 Apr 2011 (Forum)
  My dad has a ford transit connect which after having had various oil leaks caused by a bad engine change (FWI national engines dont use new gaskets) fixed, i took the van on a 10 mile drive to make sure everything was ok which it was but after a few times it has trouble starting and will now only start on easy start. When started, it runs and drives fine but it just will not start on its own. Air and fuel filters have all been changed and oil and oil filter is all newish and i have also replaced the crank sensor but the problem is still there. I have now run out of idea's so thought id post the question here.

  My 53 plate Corolla, on 82,000 miles, keeps losing power and then cutting in again, usually once during say a 20 mile run, but now getting more frequent; not funny when trying to enter a roundabout with traffic approaching!  No warning lights come on; it has been regularly serviced, and fuel cleaner put in at each service.  Last service was last August, when the air filter was also changed.  The Toyota dealer thinks it is valves sticking, but they are ok when they test them, so they said to "let the fault develop" before they can find the cause - but the thought of it happening during an overtake or on a motorway makes me nervous.

  Hi Everyone, We booked the Van to have its first health check and one point we put forward to the dealers was the bad fuel consumption. We are currently using £60.00 with diesel cost per litre @ £1.27 and that's getting us about 190 miles maximum. We are averaging approx 16-18mpg with no payload.

  Any suggestions why my VW GOLF MK3 1.6 1996 AEE has failed its MOT so badly on emissions? It had new plugs, air/fuel/oil filters, 11 months ago. And its only ever done 77,000 miles. The reasons for failure are. -Exhaust emits dense blue smoke during acceleration (but it isn't burning oil haven't had to top it up in months) -Excessive Carbon Monoxide & Hydrocarbon content.

  Hi, hope you can help, i bought my motorhome almost a year ago, it runs very well returns 30 mpg, does not use or lose oil or water, but ever since i bought it, has smoked on start up . This is not noticeable during normal driving, but when sitting idling you can smell a fuel/parafin odour, and a light blueish smoke is noticeable. Recently i put the van off road on sorn for two months, now when i start up there is loads of smoke which lessens as the engine heats up but does not go away.

  When looking up the luggage capacity of these vehicles, however, they seem to carry little more than the respective hatchback, with presumably some disbenefit respecting fuel efficiency. And so my questions: would a hatchback suit our needs; and in either event, which if any of the 4 makes would you recommend over the others? My thanks in advance.

    The following warning lights came on at the same time today: 4x4, ABS, Brake system, Tyre pressure, Air bag; in addition, the speedometer and cruise control do not work and the mileage remaining from the current fuel tank contents moves erratically.   They have quoted me£1.500 for diagnostic work and a new DSC Control unit (which will take 3 - 5 days to come from Germany.

  At first it seemed to drive o.k apart from an occasional pulling back when accelerating, but I put this down to the fact the petrol had run very low and it may have been dirt in the bottom of the fuel tank being sucked into the system. Yesterday when I tried to start it it just made a clicking noise which was coming from the engine and the dash lights were also flashing. When I tuned the key fully nothing happened and it didn't turn over.

  I purchased around 5 weeks ago a 2004 silver Mondeo Zetec 2.0TDCi 130, with the 6 speed box, 62k on the clock and full service history.  The car is a dream to drive, and I am getting great fuel economy from it. Since I purchased the car I have changed the oil and oil filter, changed the air filter, and done all underbonnet checks to make sure its ready for winter such as greasing the battery terminals, checking all wiring is secure etc..

  so two questions really, what is causing this and how easy is the intake manifold to clean bearing in mind I have used various fuel claeners to try and aid the situation.. Help, much appreciated! Best, Craig
• Renault Clio II (2001 - 2007) - 04 dci 1.5 EGR valve prob? 5 Nov 2010 (Forum)
  The engine management light on my 04 clio dci 1.5 came on, on Friday got my breakdown out and they advised it was due an EGR valve fault and reset the car and would be ok to drive and if the light came on again to see a garage Well the light has come on again and the only thing that seems to be difference is the fuel comsumption. Would this be an EGR blockage or something more. Am I ok to drive the vehicle till i can get it to a garage or am i doing it more harm than good. Being a female I am worried about being ripped of at a garage and need to ensure I know my stuff about this possible problem

  hi all i have a 2002 vectra and quite often now my abs light comes on and all my dials stop working (spedo.rev counter,temp dial and fuel gauge) at the same time my milage stops going up. some days i could drive 10 miles befor this happens other days it happens as soon as i drive the car. i know this has been discussed befor however no one come back to say how or if they got it fixed. would like 2 know before i start changing things that might not need changed as 2 mechanics have both said it could be numerus things from altanator, sensors, abs cpu, wiring looms and dirty connections any help would be appreciated thanks

  I thought it was just when the car was cold and it certainly reduces after a while but doesn't go away completely... I was guessing that it might be something to do with the fuel feed but not really sure... Any advice would be appreciated... doggle

  She still wants a convertible (could be a soft top though), she wants a diesel this time around for better fuel economy, the car needs to be about the same size (an A5 would be too big), it needs to be automatic and finally (and this is where I'm stuck), it needs to be a quattro / 4 wheel drive. One other thing...she doesn't  want a classic 4X4 shape / style if possible.

  It does not do it every time, just internmittently. She always keeps the tank about half full of fuel. She has left the car with me while she is away for a fortnight to sort out the problem. My only experience of this was with an old BMW that didithe same thing and in the end that required a new disributor cap and rotor arm.

   B) the air conditioning has stopped working and there is ERR message on A/C control panel.  I have found a similar problem on a ROVER owners website relating to the Fuel Burning heater and problems with the KBUS, but the solution (to remove the fuses from the FBH) did not work for me.  My Garage is also stuck for solution.  All the Instrument panel components have been check out and found to be fully functioning.

  Hi I bought a Mazda 3 recently and have only had it for one month. Its a 2 litre Sport and so does go thruugh a lot of fuel, but i noticed that the petrol gage wasnt going up when i put petrol in and it was using it far more quickly that it usually would. So on a journey home, i was keeping an eye on the petrol when i noticed that the mileage gage seemed to be creeping up too quickly.

  There again, sometimes it starts on first turn of the key! Given the above, I'm reasonably sure it's not an air leak into the fuel system. - but then again I'm not very clever!

  Hi my asta van has a general knocking noise coming from the top end of the engine, i have checked the valve timing and checked camshafts for wear and checked tappets for correct gap and all is fine, the van drives fine with no loss of power, i have tried to read fault memory but unable to read memory with diag machine, i have heard a few rumours about the 2 ecu's in the engine bay causing certain engine running and knocking noises, ie fuel knock/pinking, can anyone advise me what these ecu' issues are or are there any known problems like this that anyone can advise me on, any help would be great.

  And, more importantly, how expensive it may be? Just as an aside, I'd put an tenner's worth of supermarket fuel in about ten miles before the light came on - not sure if that's related but you do hear stories.... Thanks in advance.
