  • Mazda 2 - Stick or twist? 28 Sep 2019 (Forum)
It was bought outright in 2010 for £7495 with  33k miles and has been reliable, with yearly servicing and just a few suspension parts and a pulley wheel replaced. It's on its original exhaust, battery, clutch etc. Yearly mileage around 7k. It's been a good car, although a horrific green colour, but it's starting to show its age.  In the next few months it's due a service and MOT. There are a few jobs that need doing; exhaust heat shield mounts at manifold have corroded ,  rear wheel bearing is very rough, suspension clonk from the front and a couple of tyres are very close to the wear indicators.
  • Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV - PHEV pros/cons - reliability, servicing etc. 17 Oct 2018 (Forum)
I'm wary of how complex modern diesels are and have a nagging doubt that the PHEV might throw up similarly expensive problems which could be very costly when it's out of warranty. Then there's the question of battery pack longevity and cost to replace, which Mitsubisihi seem to be skirting around for now, judging by the FAQ's I read on their website which seem to be reduced to 'well they're bound to get cheaper...'
  • Peugeot 307 2002 5Door - Car wont start after stereo install attempt 21 Jul 2017 (Forum)
LOL. basically i got this stereo set up yesterday, everything working fine except that when the car is turned off it forgets all the settings i set.. which meant the radio wasnt getting constant power when the car is off. to locate that i took the wires and started plugging them into other random wires, the wire i was connecting was the yellow wire from the stereo, ground is connected, well i look on my dashboard and the light for the airbag is on, i get worried and put the wires back where they are meant to be. and start the car, the car starts. headlights turn on themselves, wipers are also running. i try turn them off but nothing happens its automatically doing those, i turn the car off and these turn off, i try to start the car again and it wont start. the battery is fine and has the power to turn the car on, the starter turns, the car cranks but just wont start. i need a solution to this problem ASAP please, any help would be appreciated.
  • Chevrolet Kalos 2007 1400 - Chevrolet Kalos - Loss of Power When Cold? 8 Feb 2017 (Forum)
Also before it loses power it starts to shudder. The engine light goes out on its own after a few days. The battery is fine and it had a fuel filter change in the summer.  Spark plugs were also changed last summer.  Any suggestions please? Thanks

The only thing I'm sceptical about is the quality (cheap Chinese made) and any effect on the cars battery and/or wiring
  • Vauxhall Astra 2002 1.6 - Electric Power steering not working 18 Jun 2016 (Forum)
I've had a second hand pump put in to replace the old knackered looking one. It was bought on ebay and a ' guaranteed' working item. A new battery was put in and alternator has been checked along with the relays and fuse box.  There are no warning lights on the dashboard and the car drives as normal just minus the PAS. Do you think you could help at all please ?
  • 2009 diesel peugeot 207 5 door hatchback - Peugeot 207 diesel won't start 11 Apr 2016 (Forum)
The car wont start, central locking fine, doors open on keys, ignition powers up, radio lights, etc everything works, but turn the key and nothing, the starter motor does not turn over ( seems to be a light click / ticking? In passenger compartment) the battery is good, fully charged and no current drop) I've checked fuses ( think it's the 2x 10 amp in fuse box in engine compartment, in fact checked all fuses and they seem ok with AVO meter!) It's done this before and on one occasion I needed to replace fuse on other occasion it just started working again, now nothing, but it bump starts and runs fine.
  • BMW E91 330d - BMW E91 NON C.A fob not working. Diversity antenna 28 Aug 2015 (Forum)
My 55 plate 330d touring, E91, has NON comfort access key fobs. Neither unlock/lock doors, but both start the engine. I have replaced the battery in one of them, not easy as they are not meant to be replaced as they should charge while in ignition. It is now emitting a good signal when i checked with my key transmitter. However still nothing!

  • Fiat Punto - Heater blower doesn't work 4 Dec 2014 (Forum)
I've tested the resistance between the 2 pins on the motor itself and even that comes up as 0 (which confuses me) and to finally confuse the hell ouf of me the motor span fine when i took it out and used a couple of spade connectors connected directly to a 12v car battery!!   I've read lots of posts saying that it could be the resistance pack but i'm sure it isn't cos there is power coming through the resistor (as stated above), i've also checked all the connectors of the resistance block, the back of the heater control panel and the fan itself and there's no signs of melting or heat damage.

  • Peugeot 308 - How do I stand? 5 Nov 2014 (Forum)
Good Mornig all I bought a NON Runner 308, I Checked the Usual & replaced the Usual after a full service, when the car was bought the previous owner has had the same problem, he was told it was the Pump Solinoid, I replaced with new, new Peugeot Filter etc, Filled up the filter before replacing, battery full of charge, car started & ran for about 20 mins the pettered out,the car will now, not start I was told there was no pressure to the Injector line, I towed the car to a local Diesel Doctor, after a week due to people off for hols I ran him yesterday to be told that there was a Fault within the wiring loom that has caused a NON Sigal getting to the ECU to reduce the fuel lines pressure?????????
  • BMW 5 Series E39 - Won't start when hot 29 Aug 2014 (Forum)
The big difference is that there was no power to the pump(cause is suspected ECU not sending message to power the pump). He put a 12 volt feed from the battery to the pump and pow she fired up!! He tested this 30 times over a week to make sure, and road tested it. What he eventually did was to run a wire from the fuse box via the ignition switch to the pump.

  • Ford Mondeo Mk2 Verona (X) - Continuous power feed for stereo 14 Oct 2013 (Forum)
Everything works great apart from the memory on the stereo - we know the continuous feed was working prior to fitting the new stereo as he didn't have to put in the key code every time he drove.  I'm wondering if its the fuse as he didn't disconnect the battery before fitting the new stereo... Thanks in advance!  (This info will be useful for me too when I get a new stereo for mine!!)
  • peugeot 106 1.1 1997 - Drying after wet test 19 Sep 2013 (Forum)
(the black bit in the pic http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m147/liammcl_2006/liammcl_2006001/31082013031.jpg ) The pipe from the carb, going pass the left of the battery to the warm air intake, always seems open... ie there is a constanmt vacuum pulling the flap http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m147/liammcl_2006/liammcl_2006002/vacuum2.jpg The smoking seems a lot worse when the engine heats up.
