  • Audi A4 (1995 - 2000) - 99 1.9t water in passenger footwell 7 Sep 2009 (Forum)
I have recently had the plastic facia around the wiper arms replaced and found the front passenger footwell gets wet with water - this runs down from behind and underneath plastic facia to glovebox near the central housing for the gear selector. Could this be from heater matrix? - have already tried checking hole underneath battery - this is clear and water runs out through to floor. Also have checked that pollen filtre water trap is clear. Heater still appears to be working ok both in hot temp and cool modes. The most recent water appeared on Tuesday which was a pleasant dry day.
  • Renault Clio 1 Petrol (1991 - 1998) - 96 1.8 Remote fob disaster 6 Apr 2009 (Forum)
Today an RAC man told her that the car had a Toad aftermarket remote/alarm on top of its own immobiliser; that Toad alarms are 'a nightmare'; that when anything goes wrong with them they arm the factory immobiliser; and that the latter takes 'three computers' to reset and can only be dealt with by Renault who will charge £300. Apart from confirming my view that remote key fobs containing a battery are stupid fussy unnecessary things guaranteed to be a PITA sooner or later, these events have immobilised my daughter. Her fiance, who obtained the car secondhand (it's a very nice little roller skate too), is working dawn-to-dusk at present and can't grapple with it.
  • Ford Escort (1993 - 2000) - 1996 1.8TD Cold Start Problems 30 Dec 2008 (Forum)
Had the glow plugs replaced 12 months ago on recommendation of guys on here (since done 10,000 miles) and installed a new battery. It also had full service & MOT only 25 days ago at local garage in Edinburgh. Found a similar thread here: http://passionford.com/forum/showthread.php?t=208532 and bits and pieces online relating to other cars with similar problems.
  • Ford Escort (1993 - 2000) - 00 1.8 Escort Van poor starting 28 Nov 2008 (Forum)
I have a 2000 W-reg Escort Van, a 1.8 diesel (non turbo). During the last week or so it has become very hard to start in the morning, the battery cranks the engine fine but it just won't fire up. Eventually after a lot of smoke it starts, then will run and start fine all day (doesn't smoke once running). I figured this was glow plugs as it coincided with the cold weather, so changed them.

  • Renault Laguna II (2001 - 2007) - 2003 1.8 Trip computer won't show miles 29 Sep 2008 (Forum)
My 2003 Laguna 1.8 16v recently had the gearbox replaced as a result of differential failure. During the repair the battery was disconnected so I had to re-code the radio. (No problem) However the digital odometer and trip computer will now only indicate metric units, so my 110,000 mile car now has 177,000km, my economy is measured in litres per hundred km etc.
  • Peugeot 406 (1999 - 2004) - 2000 2.0 Replacing Clock Cluster / speed sensor 29 May 2008 (Forum)
As I found a clock cluster at the breakers the other day i thought Id try it first. Q. - Do I need to disconnect the battery when I pull the connectors out of the old clock section and plug them back in the new one? I prefer not to do this if possible as I dont have the radio code and will then have to take the radio out (to get serial no.) and pay for the code.
  • FIAT Cinquecento (1993 - 1998) - 97 1.0 Stuttering Cinquecento Sporting 16 May 2008 (Forum)
At anything like 2500 rpm when accelerating there is a spluttering as if fuel is not getting through, particularly when under load and when the engine is hot. We also have a half-on battery warning light. When joining a main road it is necessary to slip the clutch seriously in order to keep the revs up, just to stop it stalling. We recently had to have a new clutch. The car has been on some longer runs to ?
  • Ford Fiesta (1995 - 1999) - 96 1.25 LX Problems in starting car 26 Apr 2008 (Forum)
Rang my mechanic today and he said to try my spare key as the chip might have gone in the other one, but that didnt work. I don't think its the battery since it wouldnt start at all if it was? Any ideas of the prognosis or what could be causing it not to start up straight away? Thanks
  • Renault Megane II (2002 - 2008) - 03 1.9 dci electrical fault after jump-start. 14 Apr 2008 (Forum)
I tried to do a good deed and allowed to jumpstart their car via my megane 1.9DCI 2003 I dont know al ot about cars, but he connected the correct cables but think one of the cables was not touching the terminal- but instead that little pack that fits ontop of the battery & has wires and metal. He reved his car and mine cut out and came out and displayed a msg 'electrical fault'. I had to have the car towed home. It is completely dead but lights, cd player, locks all work fine (although a message also at the time stated auto lights fault.
  • Renault Clio 1 Petrol (1991 - 1998) - '95 1171cc - alternator & warning light 1 Sep 2007 (Forum)
May be worse when wet, and has been getting more frequent. Drive belt is secure /tight. When light is out my multimeter shows that the battery is getting charged (14.4v ish), including when loaded (lights on etc) if engine is buzzed. I suspect alternator (brushes?). - What do you think? - Where can I buy alternator brushes? - if its the regulator is that included in an exchange alternator?
  • 406 hdi 2.2 fuel filter warning (FAP) 2 Jun 2007 (Forum)
Shortly after the management system light has also lit (the one bottom centre that looks a tad like a brake cylinder) saying Anti Pollution system has failed, which I take as a consequence of this filter not doing it's job. Manual say take it out for a run. Done this-still on. Took battery off for an hour. Still on! So dearest experts, what do I do? I have googled this, not getting too much that helps back. I mean I don't even know where this filter even is! Is a 51 plate on 39k miles.
  • 306 hdi cooling fans again (sorry) 15 May 2007 (Forum)
One fan feels stiffer than the other but im not sure if this would have caused a burn out Basically i want to test the fans to see if the motors are working but dont know much about electrics so dont want to go connecting a battery anywhere to it. People have talked about this 'briton sensor' on cars with aircon but ive been told that mine doesnt have one. The only sensors i can see is a blue on on the side of the thermostat (very arkward to get to).
  • 406 8v Turbo - Warning light issues 31 Mar 2007 (Forum)
I have a 406 8v Turbo (1998) which regularly shows the engine warning light during hard acceleration and the turbo cuts out. This is particularly annoying if your overtaking!! I disconnected the battery for some time to reset the ECU - made no difference. I have taken it to Peugeot for engine diag info. The results showed 2 errors recorded, one for the oxygen circuit and one for the turbo switch.
  • Renault Megane 1.4 Not Starting Right 19 Mar 2007 (Forum)
It then got worse and wouldn't start at all, even though it sounded like it was turning over properly, it just wouldn't start up at all :-( I bump started it and took it down to the local garage, but they couldn't find a fault. They said they checked the Battery, Starter Motor, Leads and Spark Plugs and they all seemed ok, it was just as though a spark wasn't reaching the engine? So they reckon it'll need to go back to a renault dealer :-( Anyone have any ideas?
  • Why I'm not going to let cars in 6 Feb 2007 (Forum)
    * I note that this comes across as a bit of a rant, but I'm in a rotten mood since my £200 bike lights have packed in after the blasted smart charger crashed and overcharged the £80 battery, I've gouged a hooooge chunk of flesh out of my calf while on the bike, and I nearly got sideswiped today on the ring road roundabout by a car doing well over 100mph. By the police station, of all places.
  • Picasso HDi Cambelt Crankshaft pulley 2 Feb 2007 (Forum)
Hoping it would go away (yes, I know ... ) I drove on until yesterday when the noise got really bad, the power steering packed in and a battery charge warning appeared. Shortly after there was a big bang but the car continued to run. Took the car to the dealers and it would seem the cranshaft pulley rubber interior had disintegrated and fallen off.
  • Hyundai Yellow Engine Check Light 6 Oct 2006 (Forum)
A day later i got the Yellow Engine Check light comer on so i called the AA, they said that it might be a malfunction so cleared it, it was coming up with 3 codes , P1128 FUEL VOLUME REGULATOR CONTROL CIRCUIT , P1801 AND P1805 FUEL SHUT OFF VALVE CONTROL CIRCUIT. It stayed off for about 3 days and came back on so i dissconnected the battery and then true to form 3 days later it came back on again. The car appears to be running the same as normal so i'm stumped to whats wrong with it. Surely if there was a major problem then the light would come straight back on instead of the 3 day delay?
  • Water Ingress-VW Passat 1.8T Estate 2 Apr 2006 (Forum)
However carpets now saturated in even lightest rain shower and at a loss as to where the water is comming in and what to do about it? Other sites/bulletin boards suggest drains blocked under battery, or, sun roof rain channels blocked or pollen filter housing leaking-but pollen filter is on passenger side. I'd love to keep the car as otherwise its been OK, but as have young children in the car, unless someone out there can come up with a solution, it has to go.
  • Focus intermittent instrument failure 11 Nov 2005 (Forum)
But since it is intermittent it's going to be hard to be sure of demonstrating the problem if I take it in to them. I have tried remaking the earths next to the battery, removed and replaced fuses and jiggled the connector on the back of the instrument panel. I'm starting to think that it's either a faulty instrument panel or a 'sensor fault' (but which one?) Any advice would be much appreciated.
