  • Honda Jazz - Honda Jazz '07-'08 CVT or Manual for reliability? 23 Oct 2010 (Forum)
I looked briefly at the new model; it looks great and seems to have better suspension but again gearbox probs reported plus its still new enough that I'd get stung for big depreciation. I've always tended to buy cars at the end of their production run, reasoning that most major problems will have been sorted out by then (another reason to avoid '09-'10 models). I do about 16k miles/year, mostly built up A road commutes with weekend runs to the country and maybe 2-3 big 250 mile trips/yr each way.
  • Mazda 6 SL 2008 - Mazda 6 - Recall Chassis Number Info 9 Aug 2010 (Forum)
Vehicle Id :  JMZBK******584967 to JMZBK******818514 JMZCR******106040 to JMZCR******229845 JMZGY******401609 to JMZGY******479004 JMZGG******606300 to JMZGG******731062 My problem now is that my chassis number is: JMZGH which you can see is only 1 letter off the above, i had exactly the same problem as what the cars above had - yet mazda are still putting the blame of the engine run-away on me. Any response would be great. thank you, Mehdi
  • Vauxhall Corsa C - Corsa chain tensioner 25 Jul 2010 (Forum)
The wife has a Y reg Corsa C 1.0 the three pot engine and I have had the chain and tensioner changed 6 weeks ago. Up until last week was only used for short runs to work and locally not going much above 40mph for long periods. This weekend took it for it's first long trip motorway speeds since new chain, after about 30 mins of 65 mph the old chain rattle came back as if the tensioner had stopped working!
  • Renault Clio 1 Petrol RT 1.4 - Misfire and general roughness 18 Apr 2010 (Forum)
About 3 weeks ago, the misfire returned. Its not consistent though, which is confusing. Sometimes it will run fine, but then others it will bog down when accelerating, mostly when in 1st, 2nd and sometimes 3rd gear. I dont suspect that the gear its in has any relevance (?), though i do suspect the gearbox oil may be low.
  • Vauxhall Astra G Petrol (1998 - 2004) - 02 1.6 Dual Fuel LPG problems 10 Dec 2009 (Forum)
I recently purchased a Vauxhall Astravan Dual fuel. I did buy the vehicle with a problem, and that was that it will not tickover on LPG. Runs on petrol ok but misses now and again,It starts first time every time on petrol, when the engine has reached normal operating temperature, I can switch over to LPG and after a splutter and a little hesiatation,it will run-but you know your'e on LPG.
  • Mitsubishi Colt (2009 - ) - Diesel vs. petrol economy 1 Oct 2009 (Forum)
Although this might seem cheap by British standards, fuel costs would actually form a significant part of running costs. Typical load would be a 60 mile journey laden with a few hundreds of kilos of veg passing through various villages (plenty of braking to avoid potholes,goats,etc.). Any thoughts on how the petrol 1.5 would compare with the diesel 2.5 on running costs?
  • Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 03 1.8 Advice/guidance needed on HUGE garage error 28 Sep 2009 (Forum)
A day later they said the car wasn't working and a pulley on the lower engine had worn and a new one was needed from Ford, I said "fair enough" and agreed to the work. They later rang back and said pulley was on but car wouldn't run correctly and sounded awful as well as throwing out smoke. They admitted they hadn't used the correct key/rod that you insert into the engine when changing belts over and the timing of the car had gone wrong, but would be put right at their own expense.....
  • Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 99 1.8 Blue smoke - start-up then white smoke - hi 14 May 2009 (Forum)
Recently my TDi estate has been blowing blue-ish smoke on start up which clears after 5mins or so and runs pretty sweet..... Every gear pulls as expected. No noices, no lag, my oil levels are all good etc etc with no other signs/clues to my.............. **problem** last night i was cruising along the M9 at 65-70mph and went to overtake a lorry.
  • Peugeot - Expert 2002 2.0 HDi - Failing power/boost/pick up 20 Jan 2009 (Forum)
No smoke No tapping No Knocks No warning lights apart from the usual Peugeot Airbag Light. The only bad thing I've done is running out of fuel which of coarse made the Engine management light come on, 10 months ago. The first garage I had it in was a fuel systems specialists and he came back with no answers. No error codes.
  • Renault Scenic (1996 - 1998) - 1998 1.6 Head gasket - Again! 1 Jan 2009 (Forum)
Don't know why it went again 7 months later (her partner had been driving it at the time and he's a bit of a jinx). The garage fixed it again (at reduced price). It runs fine in between times. This time there was no big blow up, just just started chugging when hot, occasional bubble in the expansion tank, no big water loss, but evidence of escape round filler cap, runs OK when cold, presumably when pressure builds, water is forced past the gasket into the cyl.
  • Ford Fiesta (1995 - 1999) - 99 1.25 zetec misfire/power loss - Help please! 16 Sep 2008 (Forum)
I've fitted a new fuel filter and set of spark plugs, which has increased the engine power, however it still doesn't feel as good as it was. My main concern is the engine is now misfiring, both when running and when idling. My revs seem to be going quite high when in low gears as well. It also seems to be spluttering a bit when starting up (thought it still starts first time almost always) and the exhaust is 'chuffing' quite loudly.
  • Pedestrain crossings 9 Aug 2008 (Forum)
Exept where there are Pedestrain crossings. In the Joggers thread there were stories about people running across predestrain crossings without looking. - How dare they, they are causing a real danger, creating car crashes! I am right in assuming pedestrain crossings give the right of way to pedestrains?
  • Audi A6 + RS6 (1997 - 2004) - 01 1.8T Over Fuelling ! Audi expert required. 8 Aug 2008 (Forum)
So i had a new Lambda Sensor fitted - still the same, so then had a new Mass Air Meter - Then a new Thermostat and i also had the Throttle Body cleaned - still the same problem, The EML still comes on MPG is awful and a very strong smell of fuel coming from the tail of the exhaust. How can it be running Too Lean when it is running Too Rich ! So my garage put me in touch with a Bosch Service Centre who worked on the car for 6 hours, doing all checks relating to Fuel and Air. The car has no air leaks, all new parts work correctly, Coil packs are fine, i also had the exhaust and cat checked - both fine.
  • Peugeot 406 (1996 - 1998) - 96 1.8 Speedo and rev counter problems 31 Jul 2008 (Forum)
I thought these 2 clocks take their original signal from different sensors so it would be odd to have 2 iffy sensors at the same time. The car is otherwise running fine. I have read somewhere (but cant find the post again) that removing and then refitting the shunt fuse can somehow recalibrate the clocks, as the symptoms seem to be that they have lost their starting point.
  • Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - Possible fuel pump issues on 2004 TDCi & 2000 TDi 6 Jul 2008 (Forum)
I can buy a cheaper one second hand though and maybe get a local garage to code it ( I'm told there's one near by ). Does the TDi one run a similar fuel pump setup so thus talking similar money to fix? I want to get them up and running as cheap as poss. obviously and am wondering if it's worth just chucking a new engine in the TDCi one as I can get a 30k miles one for about 500 squid plus fitting.

  • Ford - 74 petrol Transit backfires. 2 Jan 2008 (Forum)
I have a 1974 ford transit (Landliner campervan) and am having alot of problems with the way its running. I was given a full service at a garage a few months ago, during that service I asked them to check the carb as several people had messed about with it as it had started stalling at every traffic light.
  • Ford Fiesta (1995 - 1999) - 98 1.25 Zetec Smoky engine 2 Jan 2008 (Forum)
Don't think its blowing but it's a bit loose and needs mounting correctly - It's not used any noticable amount of oil in the 200 or so miles I've driven - It's been filled with fully synthetic 5W/40 for the last few years - Car is a mid-1998 1.25 16v Fiesta Zetec - I've got another 1997 1.25 Fiesta LX that runs perfect I could swap parts from to try Cheers, it's cold so I'll stay inside and plan my next move... • Who has either given or received a car as a gift? 13 Oct 2007 (Forum)
I realised that I should have simply sold it for spares or repair and I would probably have made a small profit. Having said that, I know that several people have been given cars that they have gone on to run for anything from the rest of the MOT to several years.
  • Legacy Turbos - Buying/Running 19 Mar 2007 (Forum)
Have noticed that there are quite a lot of "fresh import" Legacy Turbos on autotrader and Ebay especially. Prices seem quite reasonable for quite low...
