Replacing brake calipers and such 12 Feb 2009 (Forum)
where they got all the weather but the same caliper was trouble free on the Rover P6 where they were inboard (thanks goodness, it was a pita just changing the pads) Why would a 4 year old good quality car need such parts? Is it shoddy or too long interval servicing where such things are never cleaned or lubricated, or are these parts not as well made as years ago? -

Vauxhall Vectra B facelift (1999 - 2002) - 99 2.0 16v Rusty wheelarch & 10 year warranty ?? 27 Oct 2008 (Forum)
My Vectra B saloon is over 9 years old - one of the early facelifts. Paint is lifted & rusty metal laminated around both rear wheel arches, quite badly and the paint is soon to come away on one side. Shame as it is a dear old thing that serves well & I have had a very long time. -
Ford Escort 1.8TD Tyre Problems 18 Jun 2007 (Forum)
I am currently getting through front tyres on my old escort at an expensive rate! Had the old tyres changed recently got the tracking sorted as it was WAY out Negative camber, thought that was the problem sorted. Have just done near 1000 miles since tyre change and now see that outside of tyres are wearing very fast, ie Positive Camber. -
Illegal, daft, both or neither? 3 Feb 2006 (Forum)
Is it just a silly thing to do (no pavements or cycle tracks mind). Should I have rung the police? Did the old bloke survive? Did he cause an accident? Would you have done anything? -- Phil -
Vx Vectra battery & Alarm 17 Nov 2005 (Forum)
I guess it was kind of a blessing as it forced me to splice on a +12V battery from a handy UPS using the fused phone car kit wiring loom while I swapped the old one out, so I did not have to and hunt for the radio codes etc.... but I still had my ear defenders on in case that didn't work :o) Thanks in advance -

MercedesSLK cruise failure 31 Dec 2004 (Forum)
It has only done 23.000 miles with full servicing and two original tyres still on. They also said Mercedes would make no contribution to the unit wearing out at 23,000 miles as the car was so old. What is the diagnosis? How is it cured? John Knox -
Mint 1982 Ford Escort XR3 - should I? 27 Feb 2004 (Forum)
What problems should i look for with the 1.6 CVH motor? Will I still be able to find spares for this car thats as old (young) as me? I consider these a classic, even an investment at the price it is going for (comparing to prices hot Mk1 and 2's fetch). My only problem (at 22 years old) would be insuring it, as it is group 14 - would any insurance comnpanies consider it a classic yet on a limited mileage policy? -
Focus Clock 2 Jan 2004 (Forum)
The LED display was not showing the hour figure correctly. I refused to pay the £60 odd pounds for a new one from Ford so got one from a car transplants place. It was all done over the phone and cost just under £20. Well everything was working perfectly when it was fitted but a couple of days later it all went funny. No it wasn't funny it was worse than my old one which was now in the bin. -
Yaris Exhaust 30 Jun 2003 (Forum)
I also suspect I'm likely to be about 3 months late as I doubt it'd be covered by an extended (manufacturers equivalent) warranty. (I didn't need to get the exhaust done at all on my old Tipo and it seemed OK to look at even after I'd had the car about 2.5 years, so I don't really know how long an exhaust should last) -
Why don't I just do it? 17 Apr 2001 (Forum)
The saliva was running down my old jumper as I read all the threads under 'old cheap + fast'. I go back to the last one - the only time you lucky young lads on here will see a Wolseley 6/110 is on 1960s police black and white films. -
Advice on second hand car purchase 17 May 2024 (Forum)
I'm doing about 175 miles a week, mainly motorway trips to and from work which is why I went for the big old Skoda and the C class before it but I'm wondering if the big old diesel engine route is still the way to go. I do a longer run to Oxford from Liverpool about once every 6 weeks or so. Budget is about £6,000. -

The Reality of Low Cost/Desperate Motoring 2 Sep 2018 (Forum)
A Megane would not have been my recommended car but at this end of the market, I believe, condition and service history is all important. Worst comes to worst, the cost of the car plus tyres is about £600. If the car lasts a year, that's £50 a month. -

Maintain no claims bonus 23 Aug 2016 (Forum)
I think my options are: 1. Take a policy out on my wife's car. As her policy is 4 months old, there would be some cost to cancelling it. Although the annual premium is ~£50 cheaper for me insuring it. 2. Buy an old cheap (low insurance group) car, park it up and insure it.
