mazda 6 gearchange 1 Oct 2003 (Forum)
Car otherwise excellent -rattle free with brilliant ride, handling, engine refinement steering and braking particularly .Engine not as flexible as some however so take a careful test drive if you like to accelerate out of roundabouts in third or from 50(as opposed to 60) in top on the motorway!oh and fuel consumption rather less than VAG tdi"s(less than 40 mixed-my old A4 90 consistently 46to 48 even at 167,000 miles!) -
Tyres-how much difference do they make? 13 Sep 2003 (Forum)
I drive a 940 se turbo estate and have had the tyres on in different combinations at different times and on both front and rear axles but have never noticed any difference whatsoever in roadholding, noise, fuel economy, wear etc. whether on local runs or motorway driving. I don't drive to extremes and if this is the reason I'm not noticing any difference I just wonder if it's worth the average motorist driving an average car buying expensive tyres they don't need and won't derive any benefit from. -
Juicy Cupra 29 Aug 2003 (Forum)
It was an August 2001 one owner car and now has 15K miles. We are very pleased with it indeed but the first three tanks of fuel have only averaged 26 - 27MPG. This is on mixed driving. Some excitement sure but not continual racing. This economy seems poor to me and is worse than other owners have reported on the SeatCupra.Net site (they cite 30-32 avg). -
Fiesta TDCI problems 28 Aug 2003 (Forum)
Ford customer assitance does\'nt and the Ford technical helpline suggested a wiring/earth fault unique to the car or a fuel leak in the high pressure distribution. Has any body else had a similar problem with Fiesta 1.4 TDCI? Judging by the Mondeo/Focus TDCI problem threads this looks like a similar problem set but I do not know if the designs use the same control scheme as this engine is shared with PSA. -
Diesel Cars - Easier to drive v petrol 12 Jul 2003 (Forum)
Are you less likely to stall Diesel cars such as the Yaris D4d, VW, PDi's etc than similar petrol cars? Because they have more Torque, or is diesel harder to stall by the nature of the fuel system. A lot of diesel cars I have been in will allow you to lift the clutch with no use of the gas pedal, whereas some petrol cars kangaroo or stall even if you give them some gas. If this is the case why not make all cars like the Pdi range, ie 200+ lbs of torque. -
VW Caravelle v Toyota Previa. 8 May 2003 (Forum)
Does anyone have any experiences they'd like to share about their ownership of these vehicles, such as fuel consumption, servicing costs, reliability and resale value at the end? Thanks, Grizzled Chris. -
To sell or not to sell.. 25 Apr 2003 (Forum)
It's a 1990 Alfa 75 with 128,000 miles, is in good condition, goes like a train and I service it regularly. As is the way with all cars, I've just had to spend a fair bit for a new clutch, discs and pads, fuel tank and exhaust. It's value to me is far greater than what I could sell it for. The alternative is to spend about ££8k on an Alfa 156, probably using hire purchase or personal contract plan. Can you do PCP on second-hand cars? -
Mondeo TD starting problem. 8 Apr 2003 (Forum)
There appears to be a loss of power at the begining. The car does not picks up for a while. Car uses alot of fuel in this phase. Once the car is warmed up it drives fine. Could someone recommend what if anything i could do to sort this problem out?. Many thanks -
A6 Auto - odd knock on foot brake 7 Apr 2003 (Forum)
It may be unassociated, but I also seem to hear a quiet tapping at about 4/5 times per second when idling which doesn't speed up as I add a few revs, but suddenly doubles in frequency, then drops back - definitely not the fuel pump, but it's that kind of sound, but continuous. Had the car serviced a week or so ago and done about 200 miles since then. Car drives fine -
Seat Leon Cupra & LPG 28 Mar 2003 (Forum)
The only problem is that I\'ve just changed jobs and am commuting about 300 miles a week, and the fuel costs are starting to cause a bit of a dent! Apparently, the Cupra 1.8 20VT engine has just been approved for LPG conversion. It would cost me about £1300 to covert. I was interested - BUT Seat informed me that if I had LPG fitted it would invalidate their 3 year mechanical warranty. -
corsa cutting out 24 Mar 2003 (Forum)
I have had a second hand coil and module put on. For a while it went away when I used super unleaded fuel. It came back and again, for a while, it improved when I added petrol cleaner. Now it is almost as bad as ever. I would appreciate suggestions for what it might be. the car has just been serviced. -
Where's the progress? 26 Feb 2003 (Forum)
We can't afford an HDI as they're too new, so started looking at the 1.9 diesel models. However I was amazed to see that the official mixed fuel consumption is only 48mpg! The 1.1 petrol does 44mpg so what's the point! I though the point of indirect injection was to make the engine more economical. Think we (meaning I) might try and track down a late model 205 which has been looked after. -
306DT Starting 7 Feb 2003 (Forum)
My 306 is still not start to well, I have checked the glowplug/timer etc and they are 100%. I have changed the fuel and air filter. when I pumped the self primer I noticed tiny bubles leaking from the lid on the filter housing, I have now recified this. However, on start up it still it still struggles, the starter appears to over starting, the engine is firing but does not run. -
Filling up - plea 22 Jan 2003 (Forum)
Can I make a plea through this forum relating to the (over)filling of fuel (particularly diesel) tanks. I'm sure other backroom bikers will agree that one of the motoring nightmares we face is that of spilled diesel on a roundabout usually caused by filling the tank brim full just to get another litre or half litre in it. -
Starting probs 25 Dec 2002 (Forum)
Anyway - I got the battery checked out (car is about 5.5 yrs old) and it was a bit ropey so I got a new one and I'll see if that fixes the problem - question is do the starting probs sound battery related - why would flooring the accelerator help? Fuel starvation? Cheers -
Engine starts but not run 22 Oct 2002 (Forum)
It has done 95k miles so I decided to add in some injectors cleaners. I waited until an empty tank, put in 400ml of Forte fuel injector cleaner with about 40 litres of petrol. Then the problem starts. Every morning & first start of the day, the engine will start straight away but will stall straight away. I need to hold the throttle down to keep it running for about 2-3 seconds before the engine can idle on its own. -
1989 100 quattro check system probs 15 Oct 2002 (Forum)
My 1989(G) 100 2226cc quattro has developed a fault. I would appreciate any comments. The on board computer works fine(mpg check, miles left on fuel in tank, distance travelled etc etc). However the Auto check system which gives the OK signal when car is initially started, gives three audible signals while driving as well as displaying a RED water temp symbol. -
Diesel LPG Conversions 12 Oct 2002 (Forum)
Noise was no different, if a little quieter. The diesel fuelling is apparently dialled back and LPG is fed in, resulting in a real dual-fuel vehicle with a terrific range. The exhaust has a slightly 'odd' smell to it, but nothing that I couldn't live with.. MG-Rover Questions? http://forums.mg-rover.org/ -
Ford Escort - not start 9 Oct 2002 (Forum)
When it does start, tyhe car fires up and runs perfectly, no miss-fire, nothing wrong. When the car will not start the fuel pump is definatley not running. I have tried several garages and Ford technical services to no avail. Anybody any idea's regards Bill Fisher -
ZX instrument swap 28 Apr 2002 (Forum)
I own a base spec ZX, and its instrumentation consists of only speedo, giant clock where a rev counter is on higher spec models and a fuel gauge, no temperature gauge either! I wonder if it would be possible to get another instrument cluster from a scrappy off a higher spec model and retrofit it into my car, bearing in mind I am a complete novice at this sort of thing.
