Megane Clutch 3 Apr 2007 (Forum)
The Renault dealer we bought it from had a mechanic check it out and says there is no problem, and my own personal experiments from hopping into several other new and nearly new Meganes show that the 2.0 petrols tend to be a mixed bag, some light, some heavy. To be honest, I can't believe I didn't notice it on the test drive, although it's only unbearable in heavy traffic. It's so bad I dread driving the car and the sole of my left foot is developing a dull ache already. Do I have grounds to reject the car under the Sale of Goods Act? -
£8.5k, economical hatch. 29 Mar 2007 (Forum)
Trouble is I'll be wanting a diesel, that will achieve a good mpg and a minimum of 18 months warranty left that wouldn't depreciate too much over the next 2/3 years (perhaps worth £5000 in a couple of years)? Also I wouldn't want to be taking a huge step-down in driving ability, so I'd be looking for about as much performance and handling ability of the Focus. Is this even possible? I've been considering taking the new wave of larger superminis (Yaris, Grande Punto, 207, Clio etc, maybe SEAT Ibiza) out for a test drive, but i've found (in the past) ten minutes around the block doesn't really tell me much and they all feel much the same...anyone have experience of this type of car? -
Should I buy a 4X4 5 Mar 2007 (Forum)
I drive a Mazda 323 1.8sport, and love it. However I have two horses and would like to be able to tow a trailer as well as carry all the horse kit and feed and dogs etc that i seem to have piled in my mazda these days. -
Reliable cars? Seems not 5 Jan 2007 (Forum)
Merecedes he tells me isn't bad at all but A class is not up to scratch. I asked what he was now driving - an Audi S3 that has been excellent. Interesting chat though. -
Clunky suspension Audi 80 3 Jan 2007 (Forum)
m going to take both wheels off this weekend and have a look and check for any looseness within the strut and drive shafts. Also get a vibrating when on motorway and braking at motorway speeds, new discs and pads, new tyres and balancing made no difference. Also taking up drive in gear is bit clunky and setting off. -
VW Van won't start, then won't stop! 2 Jan 2007 (Forum)
My '97 VW Transporter 2.4D was left facing uphill on my drive for first time in 6 years Xmas Eve. I hate reversing, into my albeit quiet cul de sac, because of kiddies and always drive out nose first. Two days ago it would not start...plenty of juice in battery, so I thought (illogically) that maybe air in fuel line because of the unusual way the van was positioned, and it prefers the view across the Ribble to facing garage doors! -
Giving away a UK car abroad? 2 Jan 2007 (Forum)
How difficult would it be to give the car way do you think, or is the red tape so thick and tight abroad that it would really only be possible to drive it to a scrappy? -
weber carb icing on golf 28 Dec 2006 (Forum)
Ive just changed my 2E2 pieberg carb to a manual choke weber which when first ran is spot one but when driving to work or driving home after about 30ish minutes the car struggles to rev. It will sit at idle but seems to cough! when reved. Ive read a bit about carb icing and found my heat despertion plate was missing so i fitted one with the tube to the air box but icing is still happening. -
Volvo 850 GLT 20 Dec 2006 (Forum)
Also when the engine has warmed up and the engine rev comes down it is running a bit lumpy. When i engage drive or reverse i have to press hard on the footbrake to stop it moving. It seems it is pushing the car to go forward. i have driven automatics and know that when you engage drive the car will creep forward and not leap forward. -
Dualfuel 1.8 Vectra misfire 3 Dec 2006 (Forum)
This problem resolved, but within 50 miles of service now suffering intermittent misfire (hiccup really) when going from overrun to drive (easing off on motorway, negotiating roundabouts, picking up drive in traffic etc). Only seems to happen on gas, not petrol. Back to dealer - he says gas injector on one cylinder faulty (identified by clamping off gas pipe to faulty cylinder), but all need replacing at c £800! -

Rover 414 Cuts out 31 Aug 2006 (Forum)
I have a '94 Rover 414 which exhibits the following problem: Driving along when a complete loss of power occurs. Ignition remains on (and all electronic equipment works) but pressing accelerator doesn't give power. Changing down gears just slows the car faster, until eventually it comes toa halt. -
Medium size auto advice 18 Aug 2006 (Forum)
I drive a 16 mile commute each morning into work through heavy traffic, takes between 45 minutes and one hour depending on if school term time congestion a problem. Considering changing to a modest automatic to take away some of the strain. -
Puma vs Civic vs 323F vs 406 20 Jul 2006 (Forum)
Now, I'm considering (though not set upon) a replacement for my Focus, partially because it's driving me mental with problems, partially because the a/c is temperamental (works when I'm trying to show it doesn't work, yet doesn't work when I'm alone), and partially because I could do with gaining about a £1k. -
Parallel parking nightmare and shame! 22 May 2006 (Forum)
I don't remember parallel parking in my L test (it was in '85) and I've never had the need to practice it... until yesterday. Any tips/helpful advice anyone? SWMBO may just have to do all the driving next time we visit SWMBOEMS, unless I can a) perfect my technique, or b) invent a "Beam me up, Scotty" device. All the best CV -
The New Honda Civic 13 Mar 2006 (Forum)
Does the digital display cause reflections at night that distract you, and can the speedo be obscured dangerously when driving? 5. I do not like test driving cars from dealers as I find you never really get a feel for what its like to live with the car, so would want to rent a new Civic for about a week from somewhere....any recommendations? -
Punto Juddering. 30 Dec 2005 (Forum)
Its been suggested that i try starting the car with the accelorator depressed or the clutch depressed, neither of these make any difference. When i have been driving long enough for the engine to warm up its fine then when i do restart the car, although lately even when hot its been missing slightly. Any ideas what the cause is?? By the way im not very technical with cars. -
why do doors seem to be lighter? 31 Oct 2005 (Forum)
Ok, before I start this thread, I acknowledge that cars now are safer than at any time before. However, each new model I drive, the doors seem to be getting lighter and lighter. When I was growing up, you partly judged how "robust" a car was, by how heavy the doors felt as you closed them. In my Volvo S80, the doors feel much lighter than my friend's 2002 Vectra. -
A New Licence 28 Oct 2005 (Forum)
I have a driving licence in the sense that I passed my test **years ago and haven't been disqualified. I don't have a driving licence in that I can't find the pink and green scrap of paper. My employer is hassling me for a copy (after 12 years, they think about this?). -
escort efi cutting out? immobiliser? 6 Sep 2005 (Forum)
She says it starts up first time and runs perfect till it cuts out again. The car ticks over perfect and drives perfect and had a quick look the other day and it was fine, never cut out sitting on the drive. She rang today saying it was cutting out again on the way to work. Any ideas, possible immobiliser fault?
