Slow Diesel in the Morning 2 Dec 2004 (Forum)
I have run two turbo-diesel automatics; a Peugeot 605DT (since deceased) and a new Hyundai Trajet CRDT (brand new this Sept - only 2,300miles so far). With both of theme, they were very sluggish in the morning, m until they were warmed through. -
Diesels; Saab -v- Audi 21 Oct 2004 (Forum)
I've had a cursory look at both the Saab 9-3 and Audi A4, as both do diesel automatics. In the Saab it's the 150bhp engine and in the Audi it a choice of 130bhp 4-cyl or 163bhp 6-cyl units. I know most about the Audi 130bhp engine and the need for it to bed in properly and to check the oil before it gives of its best. -
Solar Battery Charger 2 Sep 2004 (Forum)
I was surprised when on Monday I went to use the car and the battery was flat! One of the downsides of having an automatic is that you can't bump start it so I had to recharge the battery. Surprisingly this only took a couple of hours. I have been driving it every 3 days and it seems ok! Now to the "subject" of this post! -
Car recommendations please 3 Jul 2004 (Forum)
We need to replace a 190E (E reg - 1986 - had from new, now time to move on, sadly) with something capable of the following: Three children side by side in the back (with car seats - 7, 4 and baby). Adjustable steering column for tall driver. Automatic. Solid and well built. Air Conditioning. We have around £3,000 to spend (I know, maybe give suggestions on up to £4,000). Our other car is a Volvo 850 Estate, which is a bit dated inside, but we like it. -
BMW - poor radio reception 7 Jun 2004 (Forum)
I tried it for a long journey and wih the engine off too - it just sounds tinny and slightly crackly. The car has an automatic electric aerial and it is properly connected at the back of the radio. My dad says something (condener/suppressor or something!) may have gone on the engine which is supposed to supress electrical noise from the engine - any ideas. -
Probate value for car - Guidance please 19 May 2004 (Forum)
I am seeking other opinions including a Nissan Franchise dealer. The car is a 1999 T reg Nissan Almera SLX 5 door automatic with 23,000 miles (SWMBO will acually drive an auto - manuals are out of the question). The car has some very minor damage to the front of the bumper, which has been badly repaired. In addition there are a few scratches and some of the bumper trim has come off I am looking for the type of valuation equal to what I would get for a relitively quick sale. -
Vauxhall Corsa 19 May 2004 (Forum)
Can anyone please comment on whether a Vauxhall Corsa with an automatic gearbox is likely to be any good in terms of performance, economy, reliablilty etc. The prospective car will be low mileage (<10000 miles), under a year old, and between £7000 to £7500 for a Design or Elegance trim on a late 2003/ early 2004 plate. -
Stalling SEAT Toledo 19 Jan 2004 (Forum)
A friend has a (new to him) L reg 2.0L 8V SEAT Toledo Automatic with about 90k miles. It seems to have the same engine etc as a Golf. It has a couple of annoying engine problems. One is an intermittent misfire/jerkiness at any speed. This problem does not last long perhaps 10 ? -
Corsa v Micra and electric mirrors 1 Dec 2003 (Forum)
Hi I'm currently learning to drive and I need to buy a car very soon. I'm learning in an automatic so I'm a bit limited to car choice but I know I want something small, cheap and reliable. I've kind of narrowed it down to a choice between the Corsa and the Micra but I'm a bit torn. Of the 2, which (in your expert opinion!) -
Audi Avant not accelerate 11 Jun 2003 (Forum)
I have a 1995 Audi Avant 1.9 TDi, 142,000 miles on the clock (not an automatic), serviced by a main dealer and cared for on the dot. I do a lot of mileage, much of it on motorways. In the last few months, usually when travelling up a long motorway incline, on occasion the car will accelerate up to around 70 mph, but it will not go faster. -
First time buyer-how can i make a best 3 Mar 2003 (Forum)
Hi, I've just passed driving test at the third attempt( oh my god!) and thinking of buying my first car. The car I have in mind is new Nissan Micra S 1.2L 5dr automatic ( list price is £9395) The standard options are: PAS, ABS, front e/w, immobiliser, remote locking, radio/cd player. As I have no experience in bargaining with a dealer, I would like some advice as to how much discount I should be aiming at realistically; and what figure I should start off with as an opening offer? -
Calling DVD and colleagues 22 Nov 2002 (Forum)
Never noticed this before and never actually seen it on a vehicle either, It is in Part 2, section 13 para 2 (e) Here is the gist. 13.-(1) Save as provided in paragraph (2), no vehicle shall be fitted with a lamp which automatically emits a flashing light. (2) Paragraph (1) does not apply in respect of- (a) a direction indicator; (b) a headlamp fitted to an emergency vehicle; (c) a warning beacon or special warning lamp; (d) a lamp or illuminated sign fitted to a vehicle used for police purposes; all fair enough then one gets (e) a green warning lamp used as an anti-lock brake indicator; Pardon? -
Cars that are Vans 16 Sep 2002 (Forum)
I read somewhere that vehicles with more than 8 seats were automatically classed as Vans by the taxman in the UK, thus qualifying for the £500 benefit-in-kind tax assessment. I know these waters are muddied by things like double-cab pickups, but I gather that the Revenue is accepting the Customs and Excise view of things that they are commercial vehicles if they have a load capacity over 1 tonne. -
Auto v Manual 23 Jan 2002 (Forum)
Having been out with her once myself she's really starting from scratch, not helped by the fact that she in quite petrified, and has zero confidence we thought some 2002 instruction a good idea. She's keen on an automatic . . . "then I can concentrate on the road etc, not on the gears/clutch", but I seem to remember HJ and others have misgivings, as they may go out of control(?). Auto would seem less complicated, I have to agree (I was happy with my previous auto car in town) I'd value your opinions. -
Fog lights again (FAO Robin!) 15 Nov 2001 (Forum)
My point is, on a foggy day, which demands rear fogs for safety, some cars will have front fogs on automatically. So, he will be will be flashing them for something over which they have no choice. Now, I don't know about you, but I get a bit - ahem again - annoyed if I feel I've been flashed unnecessarily (and possibly distracted). -
