  • Ford Mondeo Estate - Clutch wear 2 May 2014 (Forum)
I have a Motability car, just 2yrs old 2012 reg. It went in the local Ford dealers for its annual check and I was told that the clutch had burnt out. I had never noticed this when driving, no smell, or anything untoward. The car has done just over 11,000 miles.
  • New Car - Long Range, Decent Drive & low costs 4 Sep 2013 (Forum)
Its time to replace our current cars, we have a 2006 VW Gold R32 and a 2006 Toyota Aygo, we can probably get away with just one car but are struggeling to find some information thats crucial to our decision. We frequently (at least once a week) make a round trip of 600 miles and we want a car which can easily do 600 miles on a single tank of fuel.

  • Nissan Juke - Happy Pink has a new car! 17 Mar 2013 (Forum)
They say the best way to test drive a car is to rent one.  So three years ago I was given an S-Max rental and three years later I am still driving the one I bought as soon as I got home. Christmas saw us in a Nissan Juke.  Very happy with the car, had a good crawl over and SWMBO announced that it was a suitable candidate to replace the five year old A-Class.
  • Toyota Hilux Vs Jaguar XK - Parked car accident. 10 Jan 2013 (Forum)
Hi, Need some specific advice I couldn't find in the threads... Bumped a car, swapped contact details, they thought it minor: cash not insurance deal but... Big quote: What now? (Details below)... I bumped a a parked car one week ago in a private car park, my fault (clearly).
  • Mitsubishi Galant GLS - Selling My Car - How Honest?! 19 Jun 2012 (Forum)
Also air con has packed up. Will being honest help me sell it, or will it scare people off? I am sure that the other 14 year old cars for sale will have their own niggles, but I don't see anyone on autotrader owning up to them! Thoughts?!
  • Any - Most reliable car/cheapest to run to high mileage? 4 Apr 2012 (Forum)
I'm currently running a 2006 Focus TDCi, which although fairly fuel-efficient (50+mpg), running from 60 to 150k miles has so far cost, apart from usual service, tyres etc: £1,000 - DMF/Clutch £600 - turbo £500 - injector service So the idea that diesel's are great & cheap to run is nonsense - great on a company car/3 years, not for private use over an extended time. And I'm lucky I don't have a DPF, and my EGR valve is OK. So, any recommendations from back-roomers for a reliable, low cost car to run to 250k - all my journeys are motorway so low-stress on the car.
  • Peugeot 306 HDi - Knocking noise at front of car 17 Jul 2011 (Forum)
It more often appears after driving for a period of about twenty minutes and is particularly bad when turning slowly especially to the left.I have a slanted drive that rises about 20degrees from bottom to top and when I turn left and upwards onto my drive I usually get three or for knocking sounds which continue when I straighten up.  I have had the car in the garage twice. The first time the mechanic replaced the tie rods and the second time he could not find anything wrong and said he had tightened everything up. he said that it's an old car and I should not be surprised that there are a few noises!
  • Head gaskets are they now weaker? 6 Nov 2009 (Forum)
I have many memories as a kid of my grandads many cars, he had them all, Allegros, Ladas, Cortinas but never sunk as low as a Marina but he did have a nice old A40 which was slightly before my time. I remember at least twice these cars (one Lada, one Allegro) overheating with steam pouring out of the bonnet, both times he fitted a new thermostat and all was well.
  • Ford Fusion (2002 - 2008) - Car Comfort 18 Apr 2009 (Forum)
It's all the worse because the other car we have is a Mazda Premacy. This may not handle anywhere near as well but driving it is like sliding your feet into comfortable old slippers. Does anyone have any advice on how to increase the ride comfort before this car inflicts any more damage on our spines?
  • I don't need a new car, but..... 24 Mar 2009 (Forum)
The Golf is still the Mark V but does have the CR engine, albeit only in the 140 bhp version (the Octavia vRS has 170 bhp). If anyone says 'Mondeo TDCI' - yes, good car but bigger than I need. There seem to be some good deals around which will compensate for the negative equity still in the Golf. If I leave it for another 6 to 9 months, as I was intending to, the negative equity will be less but will the price of a new car have risen too far?
  • BMW X3 E83 SUV (2004 - ) - Need a new car - BMW X3 or VW Tiguan? 18 Aug 2008 (Forum)
We currently have a tiny little car which is about 15 years old. It's about to drop and with a little newborn we need something a bit larger. We've been thinking about what we'd like and although perhaps more practical, we don't want an estate.
  • Anyone Towed with Toyota Camry 3.0 V6 ? 6 Aug 2006 (Forum)
Just noticed a local dealer has a "PX to clear" Toyota Camry Estate 3.0i V6 automatic, at just under a grand. Mileage is a little high - 120K, but car seems to be in mint condition, no rust visible, only 2 owners, has leather, cruise, 7seat etc all the goodies which apparently all work. I know toyota are good at high mileages (I have an old corolla) This car would be a cheap option - assuming it drives OK.
  • Free car Pug 405 7 May 2006 (Forum)
PEUGEOT 405 GRi 1991 (J Reg) 1905cc engine Clarion Radio/Cassette, Electric windows all round. Service History, all old receipts for work done. MOT until 2nd June, no tax (put 6 months on only a couple of weeks ago but will need to claim back as have just bought a new car which needs to be taxed!). Can't afford to run 2 cars after buying new vehicle yesterday, and rather than scrap it I thought it might as well go to a good home.
  • Downsizing from company Mondeo 22 Dec 2005 (Forum)
As myself and my two brothers all now drive, there is no longer such a need for him to have a Mondeo-sized car in which to cram belongings for family holidays and uni runs etc. He has worked out that it would be slightly cheaper for him to run his own car, bought 6months-2years old, than it would be to continue with a new company Mondeo.
  • Seat Toledo, why so unpopular? 25 May 2005 (Forum)
The much vaunted Thommo in funds situation has yet to emerge so I've gone for another cheap car. I still have 3 motorbikes though... The car I went for was an old guy I knows Seat Toledo. We agreed he would get trade in values for it and I would be offered it at a matching price for cash plus a bit.
  • Tracking down a moved/closed car dealer 11 Apr 2005 (Forum)
At the beginning of February I discovered I had been mis-sold a used car warranty by a used car dealership, purchased back in October 2004. I queried it with them at the beginning of February on a Thursday, at which point they refuted the fact. On that day they mentioned they were moving premises, but didn't give a time frame and I stupidly didn't ask.
  • Luggage capacity 20 Aug 2004 (Forum)
When you look at most of the dimensions of the vehicles they are very similar. In general what I want to know from the manufacturers is which car will as much of the children's paraphernalia without resorting to a roofbox, and this should be given in a consistent, reproducible and understandable manner across car types and brands. In terms of making useful comparisons between cars it would be helpful if these carrying capacities were consistent, so that the poor old consumer, i.e. me were not consistently confused, especially when nearly every car salesman I have asked has not a clue what these terms mean either!
  • Drunk Driver 10 Aug 2004 (Forum)
Copper turns to me and starts accusing me of wasting police time, he calls me a twit. I point out he\'s just sworn at a member of the public, in front of an 18 month old child and that I\'ll report him for conduct unbecoming. Plod get back in their car and drive off, with the copper who\'d had a look round my car laughing his head off. And the moral of the story for the police is....
  • Are short journeys really bad for cars? 31 Dec 2003 (Forum)
If you don't know the island is about 30 miles north to south and rises to over 6,000 feet in less than 15 miles, i.e. it's steep everywhere - 1 in 3 hills are not uncommon in the capital Funchal. We hired a car whilst there - a Yaris, I can see why they rave about them, what a great car. But what intrigued me was the taxis over there, 99% are Mercedes ranging from brand new S classes to ones over 20 years old, everyone a diesel - the 6 cylinder versions being the most popular.
