Premium Derv - `twenty fairies dance in HP-Pump` 4 Aug 2008 (Forum)
You just know that bit is never going to be proved of course.. Objectively though, its the £2.50 extra paid for a tank of the `best` and with my Eco-crate, that`s 30 or so, miles lost. All before the premium fuel additive fairies even get out of bed to try to magic it back..... It is quieter.. but so what? -
Buying a UK car exporting it then importing it! 28 Jun 2008 (Forum)
It would be insured in France by them but I'd have to get it down to SW France. Parents are in their 70's. -
Used car suggestions 5-6k 26 Apr 2008 (Forum)
Hi all, My 2002 406 hdi 90 is getting a bit too long in the tooth, looking to swap it over summer before it quite frankly goes for not much above scrap values ( I don't have much confidence in the engine at the minute, nor the time or energy to source the problem(s)) Would ideally like minimum 2004 and with under 60/70k on the clock. Whilst I dont do many miles (around 200 a week) I would like something comfortable that will handle the motorway well for the regular long distance trips to see relatives. -
Road accident legal advice 26 Apr 2008 (Forum)
There should have been a stop sign cause that would have given better message and it clear to see stop sign because it?s red in colour rather than giveaway. The hedges were so high that I couldn?t see the truck coming from right until it was too late. A week before my accident took place, there a similar case but the outcome was less critical. -
Car catches fire during service. What to do? 19 Mar 2008 (Forum)
Also, their assessor said the fire was due to a short on the heater solenoid, and as it could not be forseen in combination with the fact they were not driving means it?s her problem. A couple of questions: Whose insurance does she claim on? What does she need to do next? Thanks Joe -
Nude male motorist spotted 12 Feb 2008 (Forum)
At least I assume he was nude, as he certainly wasn't wearing anything on top, and he seemed a bit anxious. He was in his late 30's by the look of him. A perfectly ordinary looking chap - except for the lack of clothes that is. I'd got held up in a traffic queue at some roadworks. He was in front of me, driving a red hatchback. -
Navigation, Sun and Compass (No Sat Nav;)have you? 28 Dec 2007 (Forum)
corrected (perhaps) to true North in relation to a road map or car journey/City map? Regarding the Sun, Back in the early 70`s entered Glasgow (for the first time) and entered a grid pattern of streets, no road signs and rough looking men on corners burning fires on the pavements . That was returning from the Highlands via Loch Lomond and attempting to go South. -
Ford Fiesta (1995 - 1999) - 98 1800 Endura Failure to start 3 Dec 2007 (Forum)
Hello, I've got 1998(S) Fiesta Courier with an 1800(?) Endura normally aspirated unit in it. It being an excellent starter, it failed to do so this morning. After investigation I discovered that nothing is coming out of the injection pump. -
Advertising Standards (additives etc) ban 25 Nov 2007 (Forum)
Anyone remember the car magazines from the early 1960`s and the "change your valve springs every 10,000 miles" adverts? If you didn`t do this the advert then informed of the dire consequences of "valve bounce". Then there was some change in the advertising standards and those ads were dropped overnight. -
Hyundai i30 (2007 - ) - Better than Golf AND Focus according to Autocar 7 Oct 2007 (Forum)
One tester got out of the Focus swearing blind it was the Golf because of its weighty, solid feel. I thought I was going mad saying the S-Max I drove recently was as well made as any VW I've driven, but it seems if improved Ford quality is an illusion, I'm not the only one falling for it. I know Hyundai have had moments of brilliance before (with the Coupe mainly) but it's nice to see them properly challenging the "establishment". 3 grand cheaper than a Golf model for model too. -
New used car needed 30 Jun 2007 (Forum)
What else would others suggest? I was distracted by a 2.0T Vectra SRi yesterday - I'm confused! Help me! I even looked at a 3.0 S-Type with 110K on it for £5K and was tempted (divorce looms) - I really need help. Thanks all. -
Life span of an unused spare tyre ? 16 Mar 2007 (Forum)
What is the life span of an unused spare tyre? We have an S reg Mondeo and a V reg Focus both with totally unused space saver spares that are stored in the dark, in the dry, in the boot. I have read that oft quoted "five years and ditch it" statement. But where has this come from? -
Tricky Garages 10 Feb 2007 (Forum)
The independent had been `milking ` her for cash on repairs not even needed and I suspect using sub standard oil at services. This was in the depression of the 90`s and it seemed to me looking through her repair receipts that the garage had found its own way to survive those years by generating its own work. -
A tale of three cars. 3 Feb 2007 (Forum)
After a few disappointing months the Toyota was replaced by one of the then-new first generation of FWD Mazda 323's, a 1.5 GT. This was just as well made as the Toyota and nearly as much fun to drive as the Fiat. On my very first drive I caught sight of myself in the mirror, grinning idiotically. The moral of the story? -
Warm start problem - Renault Megane 1.6e 14 Jan 2007 (Forum)
Clicking sounds can be heard from the fuel pump relay and the injectors. The longer story: Some time ago my sister?s car suddenly started to misfire. AA called and towed it home. Local independent garage replaced coils and the car seemed to work for a week. Then suddenly it started the "coughs" again but could run for several miles to home. -
A mysterious problem - BMW 25 Nov 2006 (Forum)
More than ½ tank of fuel in the car. We call the breakdown service. Wait for perhaps 25 minutes. My wife tells me, let?s try to start it again ? turn the ignition once, the engine fires. We ask the breakdown to not to come as the car seems to be running ok. We drive a further 70 miles up the M1 and reach home - absolutely no problems ? -
Built in Sat Nav overpriced? 8 Nov 2006 (Forum)
Since then, the cost of sat nav units has plummeted together with all things electronic so you can get a NavMan in Tesco for under £100. However, if I want a sat nav in next year's Ford S Max, it is still going to cost £1500! That buys an awful lot of electronics these days. I appreciate that car manufacturers hope that a built in sat nav continues to have a certain cachet but I for one thing it should be included in the top of the range cars in the way that Honda do with their Exec Accords and CR-Vs. -
being pulled over 20 Oct 2006 (Forum)
In 24 years of driving I've been pulled over four times, twice resulted in SP30'S- fair do's. The other occasions were 1; driving down the M40 @ 23.00, 2 weeks before xmas, fortunately it was deserted, I spotted the cop car coming down the slip road and moved to the middle lane to ease their access. -
Economy/MAF Sensor - 1.9 TDI Seat Toledo 25 Sep 2006 (Forum)
How fragile are these things exactly? My economy has been down since I changed the oil, diesel and air filter. :-S I had to be quite rough and ready with the air filter housing, as I couldn't get the big pipe off the lid part of the housing, and I assume the MAF is the little sensor near there. No warning lights and performance still seems OK. -
