    Anyway, at only around a fiver I shall probably continue my current practice at least until the car becomes old and worthless but for those for whom every pound counts, it might not be a false economy to adopt this recent advice.

  Real comfortable, he says it drives well, engine sounds and feels ok, enough power, the gearbox seems sound, huge boot and it has plenty of useful tech for a 14-year-old car. Going to take another look tomorrow. I'll get behind the wheel myself when we shoot back down for a second feel. Anyone know what these cars are like and if they are generally sturdy and dependable enough to last the next few yrs?
• Ford Focus Saloon 1.8 MK1 (W reg) - Drivebelt Squealing and Smoke 13 Jul 2020 (Forum)
  The engine started immediately; but the squealing and smoke started again. When I last drove the car in Oct 19 there was no squealing or smoke from the drivebelt area. The car is parked with it's rear wheels on wheel ramps and it was in this position when I started the engine so I'm not sure if starting the engine with the car in this position had any influence.

  I am asking on behalf of a friend. She is a single parent with 3 children. Her 14 year old son has various disabilities and often uses a wheelchair. He will get in/out of their mpv, but at times takes a lot of persuading to get in/out. She is now thinking that she may get a car which has a ramp and allows his chair to be secured in place.

  My current car is still going strong at 136000 and no issues yet! 3. Which engine of the above for a lovely drive, ability to overtake and cope with hills but also good fuel economy? I’ll probably keep the car for many years if I love it.
• New MOT regime press coverage 16 May 2018 (Forum)
  Finally the new MOT regime is getting some press coverage. I was talking with my mate the senior technician at Nissan who reckons as many as 500,000 extra cars will come out of circulation in the next 12 months on top of the normal quality of cars that are disposed off. He reckons his dealership will change their policy from only buying cars up to 7 years old (with the odd exception over 7 years if it’s mint) to 4 years for diesels.

  The UK market seems wholly distorted by the PCP machine. It seems to have hugely favoured the German makes to sell access to £40k+ cars to people who barely look able to afford much more than an ordinary second hand car. I’m continuously amazed by who I see sitting in or getting out of shiny BMWs, Evoques and Mercedes Benzes in the average, not even up market, supermarket car park, their youth in particular and relative ordinariness is obvious.
• Honda CR-V - Car Servicing 25 Oct 2017 (Forum)
  I recently bought a CRV, .2 diesel auto, 5 years old with full Honda service history and Honda Warranty for one year. IT was serviced by Honda just before I bought it. On inspecting the car I found the cabin/ pollen air filter to be filthy and long overdue for replacement.
• Dangerous Driving; Enquiery 6 Oct 2015 (Forum)
  An employee was recently caught by the police driving dangerously, they had pulled out of a party (were not under the influence of drugs or alcohol) drove down a road with two 17/18 year olds in the boot of the car with the boot open, other people were in the passenger seats, with no lights on except the hazard lights, driving in the middle of the road and nearly hit an on duty police car.

  Presumably most people who'd hang around a motoring forum have at least some enthusiasm for the subject. I've had a lot of cars, 40 or more at the last count, but then I am a bit old. Some of them have been quite nice things, others more utilitarian, some were thrilling to drive, others were more of an effort. However, the common denominator for all of them was that I'd still rather have had them than not.

  I'm having a hard time deciding which of the cars below to buy and would appreciate some opinions. I'm a 33 yr old male based in Malta and cover 6k miles annually. I use a/c for 6 months of the year and very rarely have passengers.    1.
• Vauxhall Corsa 1.4 05 model - Engine revving after battery change 25 Jan 2014 (Forum)
  Today, she started it up and it was revving like mad. I checked everything and all was ok. I decided to revert back to the old battery to see if it made any difference - it didn't.  However, after the car had warmed up it decided to behave itself and idle. My Daughter had looked up the problem and one of the suggestions was a stuck idle control valve.
• Ford Focus Zetec - Has my Ford Garage been negligent? 10 Dec 2013 (Forum)
  It's just broken down and the AA came out and said the cam belt was broken and may have caused other damage. The AA towed it to the Ford garage who have quoted far more than the car is worth to repair it and are awaiting my decision on what to do. I need a car and therefore have no real option but to purchase a new one. However, it has been suggested to me today that the garage should have advised me to replace the cam belt at 6 years old/60,000 miles.
• Ford Focus Estate - speedo stops with performance lag 4 Dec 2012 (Forum)
  Hi Computers I can do. Cars I can't. So I'm puzzled by this problem our car has developed. The problem is that the speedo just shows zero but we've also noticed that the car becomes just a little sluggish. This sluggishness is more noticeable at slower speed.

  In short the car was a disappointment. The interior quality was on a par with my last citroen, a 2005 c4, The ride wasn't great and in my opinion the car is ugly, although some may disagree. It struck me that if Lancia wishes to return to the uk successfully they are going to have to up there game.
• Hyundai i30 - Tyre Choices - Premium v Mid Brand help please 23 Aug 2011 (Forum)
  Two questions really and apologies of this is going over old ground.  I don't want to skimp on safety but my car is hardly a F1 flyer - it gets me to work and back and the occasional longer trip.  Are the premium tyre brands 'really' worth the premium price or are a good mid-range tyre a safet bet?
• VW Golf - Crash 16 Dec 2010 (Forum)
  My question is that I'm almost certain that my beloved 8 year old, 92k, full service history, previously immaculate Golf will be written off. They will, I suppose offer me an amount, how do I know the amount to accept? (whatever the offer I know the car was worth more to me than they'll offer - I was aiming for high mileage and am devastated!)
• Hyundai i20 - Hyundai i 20 10 Nov 2010 (Forum)
  This had obviously narked me big time, and I vowed never to buy Hyundai again, but the way the i20 is reviewed is making me think again. After all, I could buy a 2 year old example quite cheaply, get rid a few months before the warranty expires and buy another- as under warranty these cars seem perfect. Also 5 years beats most of its rivals.
• Rover 25 (1999 - 2005) - 03 1.6 rattling when driving 10 Sep 2010 (Forum)
  This good old Rover 25 again. My son bought it around four weeks ago; by and large a good car it turns out to be, no thanks to the ******** of a dealer. However...theres an annoying but occasional rattle which seems to be coming from underneath the car whilst driving.
