  • Starter motor firework display 3 Oct 2002 (Forum)
hello > I have a renault 5, I replaced the starter motor with a used part which i am assured is in good order. During removal of the old starter i failed to disconnect the battery (stuupid!} and had a lot of fireworks, consequently i replaced the burnt out negative battery lead and the negative lead from the battery to the starter motor housing located at the remote end of the starter motor (away from the the starter armature end).

  • Various - Small/Medium Estate 4 Jan 2022 (Forum)
To be used for general local duties, occasional longer journey's & accommodate a couple of medium size dogs The Ford Focus/Vauxhall Astra route seem to be in short supply, so l'm considering other offerings; which are: Peugeot 207 SW - 1.4/1.6  (are these chain cam?)  Renault Clio Tourer - 1.2 Seat Ibiza - 1.4 (just in budget though not many) l considered the Skoda Fabia however, do these petrol models (at this budget) have the suspect chain cam? l know condition at this price point is a big factor.
  • The possible uptake of British Cars - Brexit 16 Dec 2020 (Forum)
With price rises on cars imported from Europe Nissan may decide to ramp up production at Sunderland to take the place of Renault cars from France. And Toyota are well placed with production at Burnaston likely to be ramped up in the event of a no deal. And has anyone heard any news from Swindon that Honda may be retaining some sort of presence.

  • First reliable car for petite driver? 18 Jul 2013 (Forum)
Here is what I am looking for specifically: - Age range: Up to 10 years old - Budget: £3000 max - Transmission: Automatic - Ideally a model with good safety features - A small car that I can drive comfortably considering I am only 5ft tall After considering recommendations, I have narrowed down my search to Toyota Yaris, Nissan Micra and Renault Clio. Which one would be a better choice for me? Are there any others that I should look at? All tips and advice is much appreciated! =]
  • Hidden Feature on my Megane 21 Mar 2010 (Forum)
I found a neat feature on my megane today that I never knew existed, and having looked through the renault books that came with it, they have kept it well hidden! If the car is in motion and you put the constant wipers on (not intermittent) then they will come on and stay on. If you then stop the car (i.e. at traffic lights or whatever) then the wipers stop and go into intermittent mode!
  • Manufacturers without a record of problems 17 Feb 2010 (Forum)
Car makers singled out to avoid include Mercedes (because of the current injector issues), Vauxhall, Renault and Mazda diesels. What cars are the polar opposite of these? In other words, which cars would Backroomers buy in the reasonable expectation that they would last a good few years and not cost a great deal to keep on the road?
  • Warning engine company 28 May 2009 (Forum)
snip Just a note to warn everyone as I couldnt find any feedback about them anywhere so went for it - the Turbo went on my Renault and so consequently needed a new engine - found a part finding web site added my details and got a text back from this company letting me know they had the correct engine code etc for a reasonable price - but surprise surprise the engine that was shipped out wasnt the correct one - not even for a model in this country same story for the second engine they sent and now they are refusing to refund or pick them up luckily enough bought them on the old plastic so it should be ok, I know it says not to name and shame but its true so not defamation : )
  • 02 Laguna - worth a punt? 22 Jan 2009 (Forum)
I've seen an 02 Renault Laguna 1.8 petrol Dynamique for sale at a main dealer, 56K, FSH, seems to be in good nick. £2995. I know it hasn't exactly been given a glowing review in car-by-car, but I like the car and it does have its good points: 5 * safety Xenon headlights - I live in a rural area Quite comfortable.
  • Anonymous cars in adverts 28 May 2008 (Forum)
Do the advert makers take a real car and alter the exterior to make a anonymous looking car so not to upset the real manufacturer? The first one is for the Renault Scenic where the wife and kids get all excited, then discover it's the car parked behind that the husband/dad has bought...and they are not impressed. I can't work out what the car behind really is, it looks a small MPV but which one?
  • New Twingo and Pug 308 31 Jul 2007 (Forum)
The Twingo looks for all the world like a faclifted Citroen C2, especially from the side and rear. The front is just plain bland. What with the new Laguna, whatever happened to Renaults design flair?? The original Twingo is still an outstanding piece of design, but doubtless the new one will be cheaper to make and more profitable ... yawn! The Pug 308s were on a transporter, and it was only when I was right alongside that I realised that they weren't 207s.
  • Your favourite car manufacturer 4 Jul 2007 (Forum)
My favourite manufacturer is Mazda without doubt because they make ***very reliable*** cars, the cars are reasonably priced and quite easy to maintain. I dislike Renault the most becasue they just want to make good looking cars, I think they never even try to improve the reliability of their cars. While replying please also state why you like a particular manufacturer or why you dislike one!
