I found a neat feature on my megane today that I never knew existed, and having looked through the renault books that came with it, they have kept it well hidden!
If the car is in motion and you put the constant wipers on (not intermittent) then they will come on and stay on.
If you then stop the car (i.e. at traffic lights or whatever) then the wipers stop and go into intermittent mode! (so they ar enot always wiping dry glass)
As soon as you set off again, the wipers resume normal speed operation!
However, if the car is stationery and you switch the wipers on, this feature does not activate. You must be moving first.
This is something you hear of on high end new cars, not on a 1996 N-reg Megane!!

You may also find that if you put the wipers on double speed that they'll slow to single speed when you stop.
(I think it was a Renault in which this happened to me).

Has it a rear wiper aswell? My fathers Espace, with wipers on, if you put it into reverse, the rear one comes on. It goes off again when you disengage reverse. (Also happens on Alfa 147's)
|
Yes but on Alfa 147's the rear wiper also operates if you use the lighter, change direction and lower the windows..........sic

Ooooooh, I wont rise to the bait! ;-)

Most Mercs have had this feature with the wipers for about 6yrs I think.

Exactly my point. Most MERCS. 6 Yrs.
my RENAULT is now 8Yrs old!
Another feature that a lot of people dont realise is that on most Renaults from 99 onwards, if you hold in the interior Lock button for about 10 seconds, it activates the self locking feature, which locks the doors when going over 6Mph.

The French motor manufacturers hav always been quite "cutting edge" when designing new gadgets for their cars.
It seems the German manufacturers steal ideas from the french and make them better and then the Japanese come along and steal them from the Germans and make them even better.

Yes indeed this feature was on my 99 scenic and is on my 2003 laguna. If you put the wipers on while moving they will indeed drop down to the next slowest when stopped. The rear wiper also works if the main wipers are on and you select reverse. And yes you can set the doors to autolock above 6mph. (they will unlock if you crash BTW!)
|
My 2003 Ford Focus Zetec has an 'afterwipe' function whereby it does a single wipe of its own accord a few seconds after using the screenwashers to clear any excess water.
Also the front wiper setting (if in use) is mirrored by the rear wiper when reverse gear is selected, which is a very handy feature.

My Renault Trafic has a really neat feature that developed recently.
When the weather is dry, the intermittant wipers work in normal fasion.
Hovever, when it drizzles, there is a little ECU that seems to tell the intermittant wipers to stop altogether!
This is a failsafe device to make sure that I have to keep turning the wipers on and off.
Clever eh?
