Ford focus 1.8 diesel - Can anyone give any advice? 16 Nov 2013 (Forum)
My wife was doing 30 miles/h in FORD focus 1.8 diesel(51 plate) when suddenly the oil and battery light came up,the car slowed down losing power. The steering became impossible to control so she pulled over and called RAC.The guy tried to jump start it but didn`t work, mentioning that not the battery is the problem.I had a look on the comments on internet and realized that could be so many different issues:cam belt, glow plugs or glow plug relay, fuel pump etc. Also I want to mention that when try to start it it does a clickin` noise(short),but is not the common starter motor noise...Thanx. -
Citreon C5 2004 VTR - C5 2004 Wont start 26 Oct 2013 (Forum)
Engine turns but no ignition. Diagnostics show zero problems. My mechanic thinks after hours of searching that its the fuel pump relay. Seems this relay is in a sealed unit in the fuse box. New one costs 600 from main dealer. cant locate a second hand one anywherte. The car will start sometimes but will let me down as quick in the worst places. -
Brake disc problems 11 Sep 2013 (Forum)
Brake discs are fairly simple cast metal components that are relatively cheap to buy and easy and cheap to replace (compare, say, with the price of a tank of fuel). Skimming discs should be confined to the history of motoring. I don't think this is an area where risks should be taken or cost skimped on. If the discs are below par, get them replaced and, of course, the pads at the same time. -
M-way closures 31 Aug 2013 (Forum)
Those who missed family holiday flights from Heathrow / Gatwick, job interviews, other commercial deadlines, wasted fuel, those on hourly charge out rates etc, could sue for damages. Why is this not done by those so inconvenienced. Is it 'not British'? Just imagine if rail brought in trains carrying 1,000 half a day late several times a week!! -
Ford Focus 2.0 TDCI - Engine Systems Fault 30 Aug 2013 (Forum)
I drove back to work as it was just around the corner. if its still on when I go out tonight I'll call the RAC but does anyone know what it could be? I've read a few different forums, as it is after filling up it seems it could be the fuel additive? could this be right and if so expensive? thanks, nick -
Jaguar XF - an indicated 34mpg from a 3L petrol.... 17 Aug 2013 (Forum)
on a long run from Oxfordshire -> Lancashire yesterday afternoon/early evening I got an indicated 34mpg over the journey and didn't even get through half a tank of fuel. I think I should win some special prize for that. And no, I did leave & arrive the same day! Journey was ~200 miles & took 3 hrs. This compares with 32mpg earlier in the week on a trip from a return trip to Lancs - > Cambridge. -
Volkswagen Polo - Instrument panel intermittent display 2 Jun 2013 (Forum)
Periodically the instrument panel shows randomly varying information, the odometer shows hieroglyphics or the panel may be blank, no speed, revs, fuel, warning light, nothing. I have seen 3 suggested sources of problem mentioned in blogs. 1) alternator producing up to 18v, assess by turning on electrics, (this has made no difference), neutralise by disconnecting the battery and shorting across the disconnected cables. -
Ford Focus 1.8tdci - Juddering at low revs light acceleration 18 Feb 2013 (Forum)
I am not getting any feedback through clutch so hoping it wont be the DMF and as there doesnt seem to be any lag or loss of power when accelerating I am hoping its not fuel injector or EGR. I just thought it wanted to get going but am now starting to think its not normal -
Peugeot 407 SW 2.0 HDi 136 - Intermittant turbo problem? 16 Feb 2013 (Forum)
No other apparent symptoms, no lights on the dashboard for example, but fuel economy is not as good as I would have expected. Thanks. -

Renault Laguna ll 2004 1.9dci sport tourer - Engine Ticking Noise 7 Jan 2013 (Forum)
I have replaced and recoded the injectors/ecu, cleaned the TDC sensor and the fuel pressure sensor but the tickin perssists. The car now runs fine, all errors have been cleared and don't come back. When I pull each of the injector plugs off in turn they all sound alike but ticking continues. -
ford focus 1.8tdci 2006 - running/ticking over problems 30 Dec 2012 (Forum)
Hi new to this site Im stuck on a problem with my car,the car starts and runs fine but every now and then it ticks over lumpy for a a while roughly 10-15 mins some times only 5 mins mainly when its warmed up. Then it cures itself!!!! Ive changed the fuel filter and had the injectors drip tested but no luck curing it. I've had it put on 2 different code readers but no joy either. I really dont want to take it to fords as i know it will cost a fortune. -
Ford Focus - Cheap second car (used just for a work commute) 5 Nov 2012 (Forum)
Any advice on something not too small (wouldn't feel safe on the motorway everyday in a diddy little thing) that's decent on fuel (specifically taking into account that sort of run) and reasonably reliable? Thinking of an '03 Focus (mainly because there's so many of them under the £1500 mark) but have never had one, any pitfalls I should look for on them? -
Volkswagen Touareg - Diesel vs Hybrid test 28 Oct 2012 (Forum)
However it did have a better weight distribution and considerably better acceleration. But the TDi spanked it in terms of fuel economy at virtually all steady speeds. This was 'only' the 225 hp version of the 3.0 TDi. I think the higher output European versions of this engine would have matched the hybrid in acceleration, giving a clean sweep to the oil burner. -
ford mondeo III tdci - Injector issues - what to look out for 10 Sep 2012 (Forum)
If so what signs do I look out for on them? (2) I have heard the injector issue is down to the quality of fuel being used, so no using supermarket diesel then ? Thanks -
Vauxhall Vectra C - Vauxhall Vectra cutting out when warm 28 Aug 2012 (Forum)
I can drive 50-60 miles without any trouble but if I have to stop it want start again until it cools down. It's been in and out of the garage they can't find any fault. They have changed the fuel regulator sensor (I think that was what it was called) but they hasn't cured it. Yesterday I had the AA to it as I broke down on the way home and he suggested it could be the crank shaft sensor. -
Best automatic for my requirements...? 6 Aug 2012 (Forum)
I'm in the market for a used automatic saloon. My annual milage is low, max 8000/year, and a lot of that is urban so decent fuel economy is a priority. I tend to prefer German cars and have had good experiences with VWs so that's mostly where I've been looking Budget £6-8k. Would prefer max 4-5 years old, max 60,000 miles on the clock So far for the money, I like the looks of VW Jetta 1.9 or 2.0 TDi DSG (2008) or BMW 320d (2007). -
Volkswagen Polo 1.9tdi - Diesel into petrol vehicle 26 Jun 2012 (Forum)

Luckily I've noticed it before starting up and after towing etc. got it drained and they reasured me there will be no damage. Let's hope! Back at the filling station the manager showed me a New 'Dieselsmartcap' that are on the market. -
'53 Citroen Picasso -Erratic instruments 31 May 2012 (Forum)
My daughter's Citroen Xsara Picasso 1.6 petrol, 53 plate, has a problem with its electrics. For the third time now, she or her husband has been driving when the display (speedo, fuel gauge, date etc) goes out.(Time display stays on)It hasn't stopped the engine running, but once the car was stopped, left for a few minutes, and restarted, it displays a few warning lights and then it all settles down. -
Ford Mondeo Duratorq TDCi 2.0litre - Engine stops intermittently 30 May 2012 (Forum)
First happened about 18 months ago going up a hill, wouldn't restart so I called for help, Tried to start 10 minutes later while waiting and away it went. No problems for the next 12 months so I put it down to a glitch in the fuel. However, similar things have happened 4 times in the last 3 months, twice it has restarted immediately on the key but on the other occasions I've had to wait be for up to an hour. When it does start it runs perfectly.
