  I have just had a new battery fitted, the car being 15months old with 7500 on the clock.   I was told by the garage that the battery had been damaged because I had done too many short journeys and I gather this is because of the efficient dynamic system.

  I am getting itchy feet... The S-Max will be 3 years and nine months old in May when I would have owned it for three eyars and will have covered about 44,000 miles.  I love the car for the way it drives like a seven seat Ferrari, the comfort of the seats, the reliability, the huge range of options it came with which I would hate to be without now such as ventilated seats, Xenon headlights, cornering lights etc etc.

    Ah well, I should have known it would be something like that.   So, if you are contemplating getting a new car in the coming year, and thinking about taking out a Warranty for your old worthless one think again, will it be worth it!

  We intend to buy a small sports conv for fun in the sun, maybe a MGB/Vitesse, (def NOT a mazda). Are undecided and a tad confused with the diesel/petrol issue.  Looking at medium sized cars.   But why would the other parties insurance company want to deal direct? What is there to be wary of? Thanks for any points you can help with. PS her car is old, but still legally driveable and she needs it for work. It is almost certainly a write off, but she cannot afford for the Insurer to take it for assessment, then write it off and not give it back or a hire car, and then force her to rush to get a replacement.

  We have a 4 1/2 year old Rav4 with a diesel engine which has done 75,000 miles.  It has recently been juddering at 1,500 - 2,000 rpm particularly in 3rd and 4th gears. Our local garage where we've been taking cars for the past 20 years and are totally honest and trustworthy think it's probably the dual flywheel.

   was sat in my year old Mondeo, in a car park the other day, waiting for my wife. The key was in the ignition, but was turned all the way to the left - so there was no radio, air con etc on. Suddenly I noticed a "low battery" warning flash up on the dashboard.

  The noise sounds like a rattling tappet, but if this was the case presumably I'd hear it in the higher gears as well? Using Optimax makes no difference. The car's done 16000miles and for all I know the noise has been present for ages as I can only hear it when the radio is off. The car drives OK and I can't hear anything when the engine is idling. I had a coil pack go 6months ago but that was successfully fixed.

  What I am interested in is the experiences of owners, problems they have had - or not, fuel economy, service from dealers, servicing costs etc. We are a small family (2 grown ups and a 5 year old) and the car appears fine for our needs bearing in mind we are down sizing from a Vectra estate. Just means we'll need to buy a bike rack. I may consider a used 1.6 diesel version, but the deals available on new petrol versions (i30 1.4 for £9695) are very attractive.

  Found an oily (clear, light, brown) substance to be leaking from my girlfriends car the other day - 1.0l Nissan Micra, 93 i think (L reg). Had an inspection under car, and could see it pouring from what we now believe to be the gear box. We came to this conclusion because the following morning, we tried to drive to a garage to get repaired, goit 200 yards from home to a junction, changed gears and absolutely nothing happened, revved as if we were in neutral and slamming my foot on accelorater.

  It now appears it is the wiring that it is at fault and there are metres of wiring and it will be hard to find. Any ideas on resolving this. The car is now so old, that it clearly makes no sense to invest a lot of money sorting it out, but I would like to have radio on occassion. The car does have a cassette and a 6CD stack, which both seem to functioning normally.
• Honda Civic Type R II (2007 - ) - My Daughter's Boyfriend's New Go-kart 22 May 2009 (Forum)
  Anyhow, last night, I sat in the back of this go-kart and felt really comfortable. I was also impressed by how, after zilch miles, my daughter and her boyfriend drove the car like they had owned it for years. Especially impressed as it has a 6 speed box. Maybe I'm getting old but I can see how this car sells so well in the UK, well, anywhere but Lytham St. Annes.

  I've an annoying problem with my Focus, and I'd be amazed if it hasn't occurred many times before. Whenever I leave the car for more than about 2 weeks, the battery drains to such an extent that I have to jump start it. The battery is only about 4 months old, and I've had this tested and it's fine. I've carried out a current drain test, and with the ignition off and all doors closed, there is approx 250 milliamps being drawn.

  When I pulled back rubber seals to lubricate underneath, didn't look like a red grease had been used. Then again they probably haven't been lubricated for last 20 years since car was made. I don't particularly want to redo this, cleaning out old grease, oilling/greasing with rubber grease. .

  Afternoon folks. Have a problem with the old work horse. I now use this as a second car and is used for any rough / commuting jobs. Have had a problem with the ABS light on the dash. Went to a festival a few weekends ago. Parking a nightmare and due to the lake of mud in car park, had to be towed out of field by a tractor.
