Hi I have a mazda 6 diesel estate 2.0 and the other week the DPF light started flashing. drove it down the motorway as it says to burn off the diesel soot, still flashing. put some diesel partical filter cleaner in with diesel took it for a run, still flashing. took car to my local garage he changed oil, filter and fuel filter and plugged into computer not showing anything wrong. Drove to reading from leeds over 250 miles down the M1 no problems at all and drove back again no problems  It doesnt go into limp mode or anything so wondering whether its just a sensor.

I keep having to pay van insurance which is double the cost of a cars insurance even though I am 50 ..all the comparisson sites must treat vans as business type vehicles Is there any hatchback or maybe small estate that would have a big boot that I could run for 1000 miles year which just general maintenance and cost under £500.. not worried about the fuel costs thanks

  • Used car help 6 Jun 2016 (Forum)
At the moment I have a 05 civic 1.6,which is ok to drive, but on a motorway it's really revvy. At average motorway speeds in 5th gear it can sit at almost 4k rpm all the time(it redlines at 6.5krpm i think) and this makes long journeys not pleasant.I am lucky if I get 40mpg out of it.So now I am looking for another car.Something petrol, jazz-golf size and which is good on fuel, reliable and that will be better on a motorway than current car.My budget is 4k and I do about 10k miles per year with most of the miles on motorway and country roads. It needs to cheap on insurance ideally below insurance group 20.Any suggestions ?

  • Audi A4 B6 - Is a 2004 Audi A4 2.0 Petrol Automatic any good? 17 Apr 2016 (Forum)
Is it a CVT (Multitronic)? A regular auto? A DSG? Please let me know what you know and what you think of the car? Fuel consumption is not an issue since I'm planing on converting it to LPG. Thanks a lot.
  • Skoda Octavia 3 1.4 TSI 103 kw - 95 RON or 98 RON 12 Jan 2016 (Forum)
If it is, that means all data reffering consumption, power, torque, presented in brochures are maximum. But, the owner's manual says if we use 98 RON, the power can increase and fuel consumption will reduce. How the power will increase, if it's already at maximum? Is this engine really designed for 95 RON or it's for 98 RON petrol? A simply answer will be enough. Thank you for your time, seriosity and patience.

  • Vauxhall Vectra C - Hesitating and cutting out when driving 10 Oct 2015 (Forum)
It sounds a bit blowey to me but that could be the exhaust on its way out.    It's just had a big service Inc plugs and fuel filter, it was doing this prior to its service but the mechanic who serviced it thought the car was running OK.    Seems fine once it's warmed up, get the odd vibration coming through the car when accelerating which it never used to do.
  • Kia Rio Update - Servicing Costs and 7000 miles from purchase. 20 Aug 2015 (Forum)
To date car doing well, 350mile roundtrip to Derby via A12/A14 bit of cross country to avoid A14/M1 junction then M1 to derby, returning same way driving moderately actual brim to brim 50mpg. Overall since purchase fuel consumption satisfactory. Steering  fine, although not everyone on the kia forum thinks so.
  • Toyota Yaris - Engine idling problem on cold starts. 9 Jul 2015 (Forum)
The engine really struggles to tick over when you first start it, its not smooth at all. It sounds like it tries to cut out like if you occluded the fuel flow almost, & jerks the car a bit. The problem is more prominent in the cold. The mechanic thought it might be the glow plugs as I have had previous engine management lights for this. Changing them hasn't solved the problem though & the garage had to strip the engine down (as the plugs snapped).
  • fiesta zetec 1.2 16v 1999 - power loss under acceleration 11 May 2015 (Forum)
I'm not 100% but my impression is that it only starts happening after the car's warmed up, and not when it's cold just after starting. Could it be something with the fuel mix that gets hidden by the auto choke? i have changed plugs, oil and air filter but that didnt fix the problem. help please!!? thanks in advance
  • Hyundai ix20 or Toyota Jazz cvt - Choice of automatic 24 Apr 2015 (Forum)
I know choosing cars is a regular topic ( I've checked previous threads )  I'm hoping, within the next few months to get a newer car. Although I like Volvo I think an auto would lead to significantly high fuel bills so am ready to discount them as a choice. For my motoring a petrol is the better option. The Hyundai seems to be more traditional ( which appeals ) but Toyota cvt has good write ups.
  • astravan 1.7 dti. - astravan 1.7dti. 2003. sudden cut out. 22 Apr 2015 (Forum)
This evening my van cut out at a t-junction and would not start. It turns over ok but will not run. I called breakdown firm and they said it's probally the stop valve on pump or maybe fuel filter clogged. The cambelt was done about 14 months ago and he said it wasn't that. He sprayed some stuff in the air filter and it almost started but wouldn't run. No warning light's on dashboard come on.

And if ,how long Redox takes to work?Anyone with same problem can guide me in right direction.Hoping for replies.Thank you nd god bless you all.
  • Nissan Qashqai - Diesel: Still worth buying w/ new emissions focus? 3 Feb 2015 (Forum)
Currently thinking the 1.5 diesel engine over the 1.2 petrol.  Hopefully better for longer distance, fuel economy, better resale value etc.   My worry - with a growing focus on the particulate emissions of diesel, if I'm buying a car for the next 8 years or so, is it likely this will be a bad investment - should I opt for the 1.2l instead?
  • Dodge Nitro 2.8 CRD 2007 - Cold Start Problems 3 Feb 2015 (Forum)
Hi, and help My car is not starting in the cold weather. I've changed the Oil, Fuel Filter and the Glow Plugs. Still not starting. I've taken the plugs out and checked the glow plugs when I turn the ignition on - no glow. They are 4.4v Glow plugs. When I check the voltage being delivered to the Glow plugs, it starts at 11.5V for 1 second then drops to 2.0V for about 30 seconds.
  • Honda Jazz 1.4 cvt 2011 reg No. g10BJC - tyre choice 26 Jan 2015 (Forum)
The reson for choosing the 87 load rating is because the European Tests give this tyre B for fuel economy & B for stopping performance in the wet. As the speed rating is the same as specified and the chosen tyre has a higher carrying capacity will it be permitted to fit these tyes? Interestingly, the price of the higher loading tyre is less than the 83 rated one by £6.00 per tyre.
