  Doesn't matter if it's hot or cold and if I leave it awhile it will usually go again. It let me down this weekend and while I had the bonnet up I heard a click from under the ecu plate. I think it was from the fuel injection relay. Anyway, it started then. So......is it an ecu fault.? or something in the fuel circuit ??...it doesn't idle very well either. Can I fix it without going to a dealer??

  Some state that this may increase fule consumption - but by removing the egr valve (or turning it off at the ecu) shouldn't this actually improve mpg? Any thoughts welcome.

  I own a 1999 VW Passat Turbo. The standard stock is 150 BHP. Recently I bought a device on Ebay according to seller tricks the ECU which increases the air flow. (I may have this info wrong). Has anyone fitted a similar device which worked for them? Will this device cause damage to my engine or components? I know most of you would suggest remapping the ECU, but I suppose this is the cheapest method if it works.

  I am given to understand that it may be the cause of some engine hesitation in accelerating away from 1st to 2nd. My ECU was upgraded by Subaru to try to solve the hesitation problem. It worked fine for a couple of days, but now the hesitation is back. Could the ECU be learning from the Knock Sensor and take me back to square one?

  The CEL (Check engine light) does not illuminate, and therefore I am thinking it could be a fuel problem, namely dragging some air through the system. Ive had a recall done that consists of a capacitor between the A/C compressor and the ECU because Mazda found the compressor was sending "bad" voltage spikes to the ECU, causing the thing to shut down. It still stops with the A/C off!! Any clues chaps?

  It had a recent 60,000 main dealer service It has had a new stepper motor and stills idles badly and stalls. The dealer say "the ignition coil has failed, resulting in the failure of the ECU" and qouted £850 to repair it Can a coil result in the damage of the ECU? Is £850 reasonable or can it be done DIY? Am I entitled for money back £140 for the replaced stepper motor as it has not solved the problem?

  Today after 4 months they’ve said it’s finished and the price is over £1000. I bought the injectors myself so I expected 2/3 hours for them. Plus diagnostic. They’ve said the ecu is £600, it was a straight forward clone, I’ve called two online places today who have quoted £120 and £150 for an ECU clone, I gave them my VIN and REG so the price is for the same job.   I have seen on mainly USA forums that 1. there was a problem sounding like this with the ECU/ECM with the RAV4 2002-04 model - excpet that they often mentioned a judder which I do not have 2. that the problem is the ECM/ECU 3. That running the car can be damaging the gearbox (though I am not sure how, or how one would know that the box has been damaged.

  Ran ok for a week and now ECU light back on with same diagnosis reset again but when took it out on a run this time when on an incline car cuts out. ? cause. Would changing diesel fuel filter make any difference or could it be the fuel pump?

  Nothing intermittant about this one, the dash board lights up as normal except for an extra yellow light with a key symbol and the display reading 'ignition fault' when cranking. I suspect the ecu is no longer programmed to the key (i have tried another key), there is power and data on the key reader on the ignition barrel and the ecu knows a key is in the ignition when the door is opened. Has anyone any suggestions that I could try before in gets dragged off to a main dealer for a plug in, (this would be a last resort!).

  i took this ecu apart earlier this year,its the ecu for the airbag on a fiat and i bought the car with the airbag light flashing,turns out someone had stolen the one out of my car and replaced it with a used one if you look at the photo attached you can see where the ball bearing is loaded and held with the spring until the the car hits something solid that makes the ball move forward and complete the circuit that sends the small electrical current to detonate the airbag not sure why it needs all the gizmoes on the board though http://tinyurl.com/y9trxzu
